It was a huge disappointment after our tapas as a warm up. It was served in an iron skillet, nice presentation but much smaller than we thought it should be for 2. It had no moisture at all, the rice and chorizo sausage with chicken bits and shrimp. The shrimp was very disappointing just rubbery and dry. This place has a 4.7 star rating and a great looking Menu. Maybe it's a Ridgefield Connecticut thing to go there for an enjoyable atmosphere. For the food quality it was too expensive comparatively as view on their website. We picked it because of the Great Rating. The head manager/owner was great and the staff was very attentive. We had dessert and coffee the coffee was nice and strong, fantastic but dessert was a version of crème brûlée taste was good Caramelized sugar wasn't there. We had dinner during restaurant week and WOW! It's a little hard to find but well worth the adventure. Located on the alley between Main Street and the Bailey avenue parking lot, Big Shop lane. Parking is challenging because of all the good businesses around, but we've been lucky. There are about six brick steps to the restaurant, so keep that in mind. Greeted warmly upon entering. We chose a seat against the bar. Decor is nice with softly Latin music playing. Drinks were quickly brought out. My husband chose the eggplant napoleon, chicken scarpiellio and tres leches tort. I picked the grilled shrimp, ribeye and flan. Everything was fantastic! I don't care for eggplant, but a bite of his was sooo good. I asked the waiter about the sauce for the grilled shrimp. I am not a fan of hummus, but it was combined with roasted red pepper and aromatics-- so tasty! So that was last week, lol. Today, we went for valentines day lunch. As big fans of tapas and Spanish food, we looked forward to trying this place for a while. When we finally go there, we were disappointed. First of all, the staff was cold and did the bare minimum. We sat at the bar and the bartender did no more than take our order. We could hear him and other staff talking negatively about the guests in Spanish behind the bar which was off-putting and unprofessional. Last night we went to this restaurant for tapas. We had a reservation for 7:15 pm and were seated promptly upon arrival. The hostess was very polite and pleasant. The place was packed when we arrived but emptied out by around 8:30.The ambiance was very pleasant. We liked all the tapas we had, especially the patatas bravas, which were perfectly seasoned, not spicy hot. The pulpo a la gallega was also very tasty. The service was good. We never felt rushed. Our server was attentive but not intrusive. The only dish I found disappointing was the crema catalana I had for dessert. It was thick (it's supposed to be creamy), somewhat tasteless and the top did not have the taste of the burnt sugar crema catalana is supposed to have. The cheese smelled like a damp dirty basement and the cured meat was literally grey with color and smelled terrible. Luckily the Lamchop was pretty good. Don't believe the 5 star reviews!!! They must be paid for. Was all good UNTIL....... Came here with a friend I'm visiting. We both brought our 10 month old babies (which were extremely well behaved the whole time) and sat in the corner outside balcony where NO ONE WAS SITTING to make sure we were out of the way. We also asked where to sit and if where we sat would be ok. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and a glass of wine each. Everything was all good until the owner came out and asked my mother to move her seat because another customer said it was "too cramped" to sit outside. We were literally the only table sitting outside!!! He came out and told us he lost a customer and he can't lose customers. Welp... he just lost our service. We were going to order more wine and appetizers but chose not to due to the ignorance of the owner. The waitress didn't even seem too apologetic. Very disappointing. Save your money and spend it in a place that cares about their customers! We also know that the couple did not leave because it was too cramped.. we heard them talking and say there was nothing on the menu they wanted. It had nothing to do with us! We are grateful to Tablao for being open when others are not. What we would do without our backup restaurant? Very nice deck, view of the driveway, but spacious and partly covered. Indoor seating is comfortable and lighting is well designed. The bar should draw a crowd on Fridays and Saturdays, but the place is usually empty. Why? We always wonder. We have never eaten the main meal here, but do tapas, no matter what time. The experience is pleasant. Good service, lots of attention, because--for reasons we don't understand--the place is usually empty. Fine. More for us. Our favorites of the extensive tapas menu, usually more than one of each for the table: short rib risotto, fried artichokes, empanadas, grilled veg, brussels sprouts salad, and gnocchi Bolognese. I will preface this review with this: this is a great place for tapas! I will then follow up with the reason I don't normally go to tapas places is because I spend a lot of money and leave hungry. This was the case again. That being said... The service was absolutely wonderful. Everyone was nice, helpful and incredibly quick. We had the grilled calamari, which had a beautiful presentation but could have used a bit more flavor and the grilled shrimp which we both really enjoyed. I like that you have a choice of meats and cheeses with the charcuterie, and hindsight being 20/20, we definitely would have ordered a larger plate. The duck tapas sounded good, but I really didn't like it. My husband did. I'll let you be the judge. They've done a nice job transforming this restaurants into an intimate, cozy wine bar. They have, of course, a huge wine selection, which is great for Ridgefield. Delicious food.. slow service and very busy / crowded. We made a reservation for dinner here for myself, wife and kiddo and were all starving on arrival. The place was packed! The hostess said it would only be a moment for them to get our table ready and asked that we stand aside and wait. With it being so busy there really wasn't anywhere to stand so we crowded by the bar / bathrooms where it was an interesting challenge to try and keep my kiddo from being stepped on every few minutes. It was over 20 minutes before we were able to be seated!! Kind of makes the whole exercise of making a reservation seem a bit pointless. Once seated it was close to 10 minutes before anyone stopped by to ask if we wanted anything to drink. By this time our little one was losing her mind in hunger but the server dashed away before we had a chance to try and get some kind of food order in for her. They eventually returned and took our order and we waited patiently, again, for food to arrive. Once the food arrived we both agreed it was very tasty and would recommend it but the very long waits were a bit of a turnoff and something that would definitely cause a bit of hesitation in deciding to eat here again. read more

This review could have easily been 4 stars for the food, but one of our dishes was served to us raw (the hanger steak) and the waiter acted as if it was our fault we wanted it cooked. No apology - in fact he seemed annoyed even after we showed him the completely raw center and our plates filled with blood. I like rare meat but this was just not cooked at all beyond the outside edges. Aside from that hiccup our food was great. I would love to return and try more dishes, assuming they can properly cook them all lol. The tables are a little close together so if you want privacy this is not the place for you. I had been wanting to try this place, and I'm glad I finally did. The tapas were on the pricey side, for what you're getting, but the main dishes were of good value. The sangria was ok. It tasted a little watered down, but I felt good half way through, so no complaints. I had one glass. I usually have a second. The pulpo was sliced, which I would have rather had whole. The shrimp al ajillo was on a gravy, which wasn't bad. The eggplant with mozz was ok. It needed a bit more seasoning. Everything in general needed a bit more salt, but I would rather too little than too much. The steak tartare was good. My favorite tartare in at San Francisco's Foreign Cinema at The Mission. I peg all my tartare experiences against that. Unfortunately, Tablao doesn't come close. But it was good. I'd order it again, cause I love tartare. The rib eye was good. We asked for it medium rare, and they delivered. It's not a thick steak, it's not a steak resto, so we were happy with it. The papardelle was wonderful! They gave generous portions of lobster and shrimp. They use bay scallops and not sea scallops. If they had used the latter, you'd see 5 stars up there. But that sauce is a triumph. I liked that we were dining outdoor. I didn't like that cars passed by constantly. I also feel they should wash their windows. Especially if we are seated against it. Would I come back? Maybe. Pulpo was savoury and tender. Duck breast with fig reduction was good - would have preferred a more rare preparation vs well done. Squash blossoms were stuffed with mozzarella and deep fried in a heavy batter - least inspired menu item we had. Desserts made up for it however. Tres leches cake was perfect - moist not too sweet nor heavy. Strawberry panecotta(sp?) was really full of strawberry flavor. Service was prompt and professional. Fantastic feast! We feasted today, Wilmer has us eating well! We tried to eat ourselves into a coma. We started with Sangria, two in fact. Then it was on. Seafood Bisque was first up-great, have plenty of bread for that sauce. The fried calamari was as expected, ok. Chorizo Español white beans & mushrooms, yes!. Then we moved on to the fried artichokes with jalapeños & ricotta, ok still grooving. Then came the shimp!!! Gambas al a jillo, Ooo garlic and guindilla peppers. Gambas a la plancha, grilled to perfection with chickpea puree - - more bread if you please. I'm honestly surprised this place has four stars. The service is lacking, the bartenders aren't friendly, and the last time I went in there the place literally reeked of sewage. Not sure if they had an issue with their pipes or what but at 5pm on a weekday my group was the only one in the restaurant which should have been a sign to turn around and walk out. The food is mediocre, and for the price it's definitely not worth it. This is the only tapas places in Ridgefield so it's disappointing. Their sangria is always watered down and sugary. Sangria should be a staple of a Spanish tapas restaurant, but here it's definitely not. The reviews on here honestly seem fake and paid for. Sort by lowest to highest and see how many of the newest reviews are vastly different than the tons of 5 star reviews from people with no profile picture who magically review here once and every other review is in other states. read more

The octopus was incredibly soft and although looked like it had seasoning was lacking taste. The seafood paella was BLAND. SO disappointing for a $56 platter. We are back again this spring and this time had a better look of Tablao unlike when I was here during the winter time when it was freezing cold. I was just in a hurry to get in and did not look around the surroundings. Tucked behind establishment along Ridgefield is this nice restaurant with ample parking behind it. As soon as you walked in, you will see Cute flexi glass placed between tables, Tablao was very clean and so COVID compliant . We seated inside though they have ample seating outside , still with heaters Although Tablao has an extensive tapas selections, we ordered same dishes we had the last time but the mussels and the shrimp gambas as it looked different. Anyway, we were very satisfied and this time I had cocktail, Calpi Fruta and it was so good. We finished our dinner with dessert, cappuccino and coffee. Excellent service. They were very accommodating with our requests in moving to other seats. One thing need to mention , we ordered again the bread pudding for dessert and requested them to warm it ... but it still not warm enough. Inside was cold. We loved Tablao! This restaurant is beautiful inside with gorgeous candle and Edison bulb light fixtures. Tablao is located in a great part of Ridgefield, the town center area, and is close many other shops. Tablao's menu is generous with a variety of Spanish tapas and entrees to choose from. We chose empanadas, salmon tartare, and chorizo. We also had a stuffed fig appetizer that was a special menu item. Each of our dishes were bursting with so much flavor, delicious seasonings and ingredients. You know that their food is prepared with attention to detail and with an emphasis on sophistication. The drinks were great as well- no bottled syrups or mixers. Just pure ingredients and very well made cocktails. The staff was accommodating and pleasant. We really enjoyed our date night at Tablao.
