We finally tried Luc's after hearing so many great things and seeing how consistently busy it is. The food was decent, but the experience didn't quite match the hype for us. The escargot was flavorful and buttery, but no escargot fork was provided and there was no toast or bread served alongside it to soak up the garlic butter. My husband's mussels were plentiful and tasty, but likewise arrived without bread, which felt like a missed opportunity given the broth! The complimentary bread that eventually came to the table seemed underbaked, though the butter was delicious. My duck confit was well prepared and the tuna appetizer was enjoyable. The restaurant was packed and clearly has a loyal following, so our experience may not be representative of what others have had. Overall, a pleasant meal, but a few service and execution details kept it from being the experience we were expecting. read more

Went for lunch with some friends / business contacts. Incredibly well done atmosphere - I lived in France and have spent considerable time studying its culture and language, and just being in the patio and main dining room brought on a strong sense of nostalgia. Then the food - the lamb chops were probably the best I've ever had, perfectly crusted with a delicious mustard sauce on the side. Paired with a bone dry Bordeaux I was a seriously happy camper. The service was a bit odd - we had to wait forever for bread and our drink order and when one of our party asked for bread our server snapped back "bread comes when you order your entrees," as though we had inconvenienced him by not yet ordering (we had been waiting!). Then after we did order he came back to inform me that the they were out of my choice, the duck confit. I told him I'd do the lamb and then if they were out of that the sole - I'd meant this as a convenience for him and not a snide comment. The server's reaction was a a bit snippy - "we definitely have the lamb!" Then he forgot to put my friend's steak in the order with the kitchen and my friend had to wait until we were halfway through our entrees before it arrived. Good service is often defined by how you handle mistakes when they do occur - it's inevitable they happen from time to time. The manager handled this situation perfectly - she came over proactively to apologize, adjusted several things that were not on the table, and then when the bill came told us that they had taken the steak off the bill. I work in hospitality and my take on the odd service experience is that this was a one off with a specific person - they handled the make good perfectly. Highly recommend this restaurant - as I mentioned the lamb chops were, in all honesty, probably the best I've ever had. Will be back in a month and Luc's will definitely on my list! read more

Made a reservation in advance. Definitely recommend doing that! It was packed for lunch time. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. All of us enjoyed our meals. My picky father even said it was "delicious" and my mom said it was one of the best burgers that she's ever had. It's a small place and give yourself plenty of time to find parking in the municipal lot, so you're not late for your reservation. It can be loud inside, but that's because it's small and quaint. While the food was tasty, the service could have used some work. Our server was very abrupt, he thought there was only two of us to seat when there were three of us, and had us get up from our table. This is a very cute French restaurant tucked in a hidden corner of a plaza. Had a fig and goat cheese appetizer that was great. The cocktails here are very well made. My French 75 was outstanding. My steak au poivre was cooked perfectly and was good. Service was wonderful as well. read more

We came for the soup that recently made some Instagram influencers lose their minds. I was... not that impressed. The locals seemed thrilled, but given that Ridgefield's restaurant scene mostly lives in the C-range, maybe this is technically a B -- which makes it a Ridgefield A+? My wife ordered the mussels, which tasted like they'd been lovingly marinated in nothing but a $9 bottle of white wine and an entire stick of butter. Bold choice. As for me: the soup was solid, just not "call your friends" solid. The burger did its job, but only after I tasted the soup and mussels and quietly recalibrated my expectations. I make a very good burger at home myself -- and notably, I don't charge $25 for it. Would I come back? Maybe. Would I bring the same high-expectations with me next time? Absolutely not. read more

I'm worried. I'm worried that we are going to be told We have a limit to how long we can stay. This restaurant is a tradition for us. It is a place of comfort and a meeting ground for us and our dear friends to have important celebratory dinners. The last time we ate here we were told by the owner, we had essentially stayed beyond our welcome, which was an hour and 40 minutes. This is a classic case of overbooking, or simply not managing the reservations properly. We have reservations coming up next weekend and if I hear that again, I won't be going back. And that's sad because we come at least every few months. Nobody wants to be told to get out no matter how kindly and affectionately you say those words. And nobody wants to spend $300 on dinner and here those words we had to rush our coffee and dessert and it really took the shine off of the experience. Especially when the food was so good. This is some solid French food. They brought out some olives and bread before the food. The Italian mussels were a bit too herbaceous but yummy. The beef tartare was a little sweet but enhanced by the tableside salt and mustard. The duck and the steak frites were quite good. We finished with profiteroles that hit the spot. Since they don't take ressies for small parties we showed up hoping for a table. It was packed but we lucked out with a table outside because someone else decided not to take it. I haven't been here in years and couldn't really remember how the food was and it was good - not amazing but solid French fare. The interior is pretty small and parking is also difficult at prime times (like dinner on a Saturday night). We started with the foie gras terrine and the escargots. I've had better of both but still quite good. My husband got the filet mignon special and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I got the moules Provençale and they were really good - tender mussels not chewy or fishy tasting, the sauce was delicious. The fries were thin and crispy but because we were outside they got cold pretty fast. I love French food, and am always on the lookout for accessible casual French dining. Rude server! We called Café Luc the day before to make a reservation and were told they only take reservations for large parties. At 3 PM when we arrived only one party was seated outdoors on the porch. We entered and stood in the entryway unnoticed while a women dried glasses. When we finally got her attention, we asked to be seated. She said we could sit anywhere, upon which she seated us at a very small table for two. Since the table was very small, we motioned to a larger table requesting to sit there instead. She said that was for four and was reserved for people who would come in with four people--really? The server then grabbed a reserved sign and very loudly smashed it down on the table we had requested while laughing. How rude!!! My "special" French restaurant lunch was ruined by rudeness. Today my husband and I had the best lunch at Luc's cafe! We walked in and were immediately transported to a small brasserie in France. My husband is French and kept saying how he felt like he was back home. We could not stop talking about how cozy everything felt. The service was exceptional. We were treated to complimentary olives, bread, and butter, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Every dish we ordered was amazing, but our personal favorites were the steak tartare, cassoulet, French onion soup, and of course the desserts. The flavors in each were amazing and captured the essence of French cuisine perfectly. We even had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who was incredibly kind and welcoming. I was told by my parents to go to Luc's about 12 years ago. Well over a decade later I finally went. And it did not disappoint. Started off with very good baguette and fresh butter. This was one of the most delicious French Onion soups I have ever had... Especially the high quality cheese. The flavor of the broth was perfect. The salad I had was good, but small. Croque Monsieur was good and very heavy. Lamb entree was very good - delicious sauce and potatoes. Prices were pretty fair. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Had lunch at Lucs today and one of the most unpleasant dining experiences due to a group of women who were so loud that you could not hear anything. Many in the restaurant were turning and looking at them. This is not a place for large gatherings!! The food was very good as was the service but the noise was unbelievable. Unless you are willing to risk being offended and insulted by the unpredictable behavior of the owner, do not visit this restaurant. We arrived at 5:30 PM on Bastille Day - an admittedly busy day for French restaurants, though the restaurant was only about 3/4 full - to celebrate my father's birthday. We arrived on the early side because they don't take reservations for parties of 3. After asking the hostess for a table for 3, we were shown to what was clearly a table for 2 people - this was being used as a 2-person table across all other parts of the restaurant. We kindly asked if we could be given one of the 4 person tables that were empty (there were at least 2 available indoors, plus additional seating outdoors). The hostess said she would need to check with someone and walked away. A few minutes later, an older French man (who we later learned was the owner) came up to us and said "This is our only table for 3. You can take it or you can leave." as he pointed at the door. This man, who we had never met, treated us despicably, with utter rudeness, arrogance, and contempt. At this point, my father - who is also French - began speaking with the owner in French and expressed his disappointment with the owner's attitude. The owner continued to act appallingly, saying he didn't care how we felt he had acted and that we should just leave now, waving us away with his hand as if swatting a fly. My father continued to express his offense as we left the restaurant. While walking out, the owner, following us, bizarrely said "Here, there's a table outside." My father asked the man in French if he really thought we would remain after this interaction. Regardless of whatever else may have happened at the restaurant that day, there is no excuse for any person to treat another in this manner. I would encourage anyone considering visiting this restaurant to find another, or risk having an evening ruined by one of the rudest, most condescending people you will ever meet. read more

When we first came here it was crowded and we were like "what the heck", no one would even look at us! So then we came back at 3pm the next day...and well, we kept doing that and now we have linner here at least once a week. The bar is where it's at. Love the mussels + steak. They try their best to make you any drink you fancy and they always bring mayo for your fries when you ask. read more

I could survive the not impressive bread but when I tasted the onion soup I was incredibly disappointed! The flavor was almost water. Like no rich onion flavor. For starters We had the Foie Gras which was superb We also ordered the Tuna Tartare which I couldnt eat - I know its got wasabi but its mixed in with the food so very overpowering - usually this stuff is 'on the side' for this kind of dish - still if you love Wasabi then...... I've known the owners of the restaurant very well. And I've got the chance to visit the place with my dad a few weeks ago. And it was fantastic!!! I can see myself coming here many times. And it's worth it. The food is so amazing and all classic French dishes and it's worth trying. Marissa, the owner who I've known for a long time, came over to chat with me and my dad. And servers were great and a big shout out to all the cooks there! The atmosphere was great and next time when I come, I am going to try all the desserts. This place is a great to bring your spouse on a date or bring your friends and family for lunch/dinner. When you go to the restaurant, you feel like you are in France! Absolutely amazing and wonderful dinner! We ate outside; our party of 5 ordered a lot and was well and attentively served; and it was all remarkably good - from the escargots (we vied for the very good bread to soak up the sauce), to the bavette (translated on the menu as "hanger steak" and really tender and flavorful), to the steak tartare (not easy to find and, then, a very good one!), to the unbelievable fries (I don't normally eat fries, but, again - a competition for all the ones served), to the perfectly-blended cocktails and a wine list that is very fairly priced - which is hard to find in restaurants nowadays. And the Gigondas was splendid. This was just a "let's check the menu, looks good and it's nearby" place that we went to, but with great success - and with a group that included some who lived in France for ages (and go back multiple times a year) and a 7-year-old who appreciated the quality of the crayons offered (and the escargot - she travels a lot!). We are regular customers at Lucs. We've had several recent visits to cause us to rethink this as a "go to" option and moving Lucs to our "no go" category. On this recent experience it was very crowded and there is no place to "stand" while you wait, yet restaurant will not take reservations for a party of 2. We were seated at a very tiny table which could barely fit our plates! We ordered the fish special and another regular favorite of ours. The fish special came out undercooked at the same time as our other meal. We had to wait for the do-over fish to come back out ( causing the 2nd meal to be cold so we could eat together). There were many apologies but when the fish special reemerged it was just "ok"... not what we expect for a supposedly high end dining experience and expensive fish special. Seems like the chef did not know how to cook it properly. When the bill came, we were charged for a different, more expensive 2nd entree instead of what was ordered. And, we had the same exact thing happen to us a few months back, both with a poorly prepared fish special and second entree, and the second entree thing feels "intentional". I won't get into what caused the disagreement, but let's say this is not a place where "the customer is always right". There is no desire to do the right thing. Stay away.
