The hike around Pinnacle Lake was one of the best I've done in South Carolina! It was approximately 2 miles around the lake with stunning views of the lake, a waterfall/dam, and Table Rock. It's a dirt trail all the way around. I'm looking forward to visiting again and spending a little more time on this trail and others in the park. read more

If you happen to be driving along the scenic highway in South Carolina's Upcountry, you can't miss Table Rock itself. A giant bald seated across an open field that just begs to be hiked, there are several entrances to the park itself, or free scenic viewpoints of the highway. The visitor center headquarters is free to visit; take a stroll by Lake Oolenoy, all with Table Rock as your backdrop. To hike to the summit is an intense 7.2 mile hike round trip that includes walking up steep mountainsides and careful footsteps in the side of Governor's Rock that are cut into the stone themselves. I made it with a dog, he probably did better than I did! I did have to bring water for him, as the creek ran across the trail only in some places, so keep that in mind if your four legged friend is tagging along! Otherwise, the view over Lake Jocassee was spectacular at the top! Happy hiking!! read more

Table Rock is always a beautiful place to go see nature in all of its splendor while in the Update of SC. I wish I had time to go and hike the trails but maybe another time. Beautiful state park. There are two sides to the park: one side with the full visitor center at the lake where you can view table rock, and then across the street is the trail portion where you can hike table rock and other trails. We weren't able to actually hike up table rock on the day we went, but we did another shorter trail that went along the creek and up through the woods. It was beautiful and they have rangers out to help with parking as it gets very busy. Can't wait to go back to do the longer hike at some point! read more

Came here on a weekday morning around 9AM, $6/person for parking (there were rangers checking when we got back around 2:30PM). Didn't see many people on the Table Rock trail, hike wasn't too steep although it goes uphill, well-marked trail with trail blazers. There's a spot about 1.5 miles in with a spot to sit and admire the view. Rocks are a bit slippery due to rain but not too bad, hiking poles could possibly help. Lots of dead trees and lots of leaves on the ground. View at the top was good, saw the lake below, not too windy and was pretty great! read more

One of my top 5 hikes for combination of challenging hike and amazing views at the top! It is a March to the top, but is so well worth it. There are some really cool sections where you're walking past prehistoric sized boulders, and then towards the top there are huge sections of rock to warm up on if its sunny. Everyone I ran into was so incredibly nice. Southern folks are the best! After you make it back down, make sure to swim in the waterfall near the start of the trail for an indescribably refreshing dip. read more

This park is a long-ish drive outside of Greenville (about 40 minutes or so). We visited right after a strong storm had moved through the area. The gate was closed but across the main road, there was a sign about the park HQ. We drove over there and parked. From what we could tell, the power was out to the entire park (maybe the surrounding area). They had some lady on staff to tell people that they park was closed and that they needed to head out. Their restroom facilities were also offline; I *think* this was because they were on well-water, and they relied on an electric pump for the well (i.e., they had no water). So we were not able to do any park activities. Presumably this was a freak occurrence, and not the norm. That is all I can report... read more

This is a good state park. There's a nice watering hole at the trail head that seems to attract a majority of the visitors. The staff are fairly friendly and helpful - lots of younger ladies that seem to be here for a part time job. The parking/entrance fee is per person rather than per vehicle which is not so great in my opinion. I guess I don't mind supporting our public lands though. So be it. The trail was nice - you almost immediately find yourself at a wide stream with picturesque waterfalls and exposed rock outcrops. You can swim in the water or just take your shoes off and dip your achy feet from the hike. About a mile up the trail we saw a wild bear. And inside the shop/building at the trail head there are a few caged reptiles. Snakes are awesome to look at. Both shops have some unique gifts, post cards, stickers, magnets, clothes and other memorabilia. I would recommend giving them a shot. Just hide your family members when you pay for entry. read more

A great park for summertime hiking. There are hikes from an easy 2 miles, 7 miles to the top of table rock mountain or longer ones that go to the other side of the park. Near the parking lot, there is a lake with a diving board for swimming. The 2 mile hike goes next to a stream where you get to walk through and next to it for quite a while. There is even a little swimming area under a waterfall near the beginning of the hike to cool off either before or after the hike. This is a staple for the area and a great hike no matter the level. We did the 2 mile hike with a 2 and 4 year old. The really enjoyed seeing all the bugs and wildlife and splashing in all the little areas where the creek intersects with the trail. The guard shack has a gift shop and a place to see some snakes and other animals. Love this place! read more

The woman working in the general store is extremely rude and acts like she doesn't want to be there, prices outrageous and makes other state parks look cheap, and the camping spots are terrible. No arrows to direct where to go so traffic is going both ways down all lanes on the campground and it's a nightmare to pull in your camper, the set up is so weird with the electric and water being on the wrong side of the camper. The water pump is so ancient that it barely worked, and to top it off the campground host gave us a dirty look as they road by. Really? read more

Well kept state park, with plenty to do. We got to the park around 10:45 AM on a Thursday, and paid the $5 per adult to utilize the park. It was not busy at all. There are plenty of well marked signs for the parking area, along with where the trail head starts. We opted to do the Carrick Creek Loop trail (moderate), which was well marked with green blazes. The path was beautiful, with multiple waterfalls and many man made rock steps through out. After the hike, we swam in Lake Pinnacle which was a great cool down. There is a sandy beach area with picnic benches for lunch. On days when there are lifeguards, park goers are able to use the low and high dives on the lake. There is a clearly labeled calendar on their website of when life guards are present. Overall a nice day! Looking forward to working up to the Table Rock and Pinnacle Mountain trails. read more

Table Rock is the perfect place to camp if you are the outdoorsy type. They have great campgrounds for either primitive camping, RV's or lakeside cabin rentals. There are 14 cabins available and range from 1 to 3 bedrooms. Each of the cabins is heated and air conditioned, has a fireplace, screened porch, microwave, refrigerator, is fully furnished and has all your basic kitchen and bedding needs. The White Oaks RV campsite can hold 25 campers, some accommodating RV's up to 40 feet in length. Each site has your typical electric and water hookups and nearby restrooms with hot showers. Beautiful views of the mountain abound, as well as a few trail that will lead you to the summit of both Pinnacle Mountain (3425' elevation) and Table Rock Mountain (3124' elevation). The Pinnacle trail is 4.2 miles one way and the Table Rock trail is 3.6 miles one way. Both are classified as VERY STRENUOUS. Along the Pinnacle trail, you will encounter waterfalls and overlooks. What a great park -- and only $2 to get in! We came only for a day trip to climb to the top of Table Rock. Wow. What a hike. It took us 7 hours... It was a lot of fun, but very strenuous. I probably would not have gone if I realized how hard it would be before I was already committed! Be sure to bring enough water. The park is very nice. There is even a fresh water pool with a waterfall for swimming. That is worth the trip on it's own--although the water is COLD. read more

Arrived On a Sunday with about 20 spaces to choose from and by Monday had the park practically to ourselves! Huge spots surrounded by trees. Stayed in #43 and had a short walk to the trailhead ( about 1/2 mile ). Great services and clean baths, shower was warm but not very strong flow. read more

I have been coming here for years with my family, and it gets prettier every time I visit. The park rangers are friendly and helpful, there are plenty of activities for the family ranging from hiking to swimming to park community events. The trails range from easy to hard, and if you want to go the distance, try the overnight Pinacle Mountain trail that is an expert level back country trail. There are plenty of picture opportunities, and they don't mind if you pull off onto one of the lookout spots along the road to take a quick picture. Make sure to head across the street to the ranger station and find your next adventure or a souvenir to take home. read more

Is a great place to spend the day hiking, fishing, and having fun. If you want to go tent camping it's very good to do here. The park and water is clean. There are various wildlife and vegetation within the park. You can rent canoes, paddle boats, fishing equipment, picnic areas, etc. As far as camping/hiking goes, there are many wonderful sites to see. The very top you'll be able to see miles around. Located on the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this park was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (many of the structures are on the National Register.) It houses the tallest mountain that is totally in SC, which, as the name indicates, is topped by an extremely large granite rock. The mountain got its name from Cherokee legend. I love going to this park almost exclusively for the hiking/running. I'm a trail runner and either of the two longer trails, to Pinnacle mountain or Table Rock, are for the most part straight up and very strenuous. During the summer, the kids can play in the small splash pool created by the creek near the bottom by the Nature Center and at the Nature Center itself they can inform you about the wildlife of the area as well as let you handle some of it(snake). At the top of Table Rock you will see views of the upstate of South Carolina and at times is a super-rich birding environment with Peregrine Falcons and other raptors. Check it out, it's only $2 an adult. Also, people think that after the leaves have turned and all fallen off that it may be boring to go, but it is then that you can get the best views. read more

One of the best state parks in South Carolina and a great place to camp and explore the hill country. Lots of great hikes start from here and the fishing is awesome! Definitely has a more laid back vibe than other parks in the state. My dogs love this place and enjoy swimming in the lake ( it's not technically allowed. It if you walk far enough away from the beach, no one cares). Of note: like all SC state parks they do not allow alcohol at the campsites or any other areas. While I think this rule is absurd and straight out of 1926, all you need to do is poor your booze into an unlabeled solo cup and you'll be fine! This park offers some beautiful hiking trails along mountain paths and rivers and the vistas are great once you get some elevation. You can rent cabins. There is a swimming area. It's a great way to stay cool in the summer heat. If you bring your map / GPS, you have no trouble getting to Caesar's Head, which is nearby, which has trails that are linked all the way to Gap Creek park. read more

Well known local park. I've been coming here most of my life, like a lot of locals. But- don't think you can take a quick trip to the top. I've seen it way too many times, people drive in, no water, flip flops, and decide to "walk" to the top, only to meet them as they're coming back before the halfway mark. Do your homework. That's not saying there aren't trails you can't stroll, there's plenty. Just not the summit. Bring cash, there's an honor system, usually unmanned. (Iron Ranger). Don't forget to go across the street to the visitors center and see lake oolenoy. read more

Went for a quick hike today with friends and the dogs. Had a great time. Can't beat a $2 fee to get in and was on the honor system at that! Dogs and humans a like had a wonderful time. Trail wasn't too tough or strenuous and lots of pools, waterfalls and places for the dogs to get a drink, cool down as well as the humans. Everyone we ran into was social and friendly. There was a bit of construction going on at the trail head but nothing major. Can't wait to go back and scout out a few more trails to hike. read more
