I see you Ta Bom, I see youuu! The newest Korean joint on this side of town (Robson's mini Koreatown!) I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews! I'm a fan. We went the unorthodox route (everyone around us had ordered the cheese hotplate,) and had the large buddae jjigae hotpot and japchae. The hotpot was loaded with instant noodles, sausage, spam, and rice cakes! Loved both dishes ~ definitely recommend! Reasonably priced too (compared to some of the other Korean joints in town) with friendly service to boot! Mind you, we didn't go during their soft opening (we went weeks later,) so do give them another try if you didn't like Ta Bom the first time! Considering the popularity and relative newness of this place you'll most likely have to line up. Worth it tho! read more

We ordered the Spicy Pork, Jae Yuk Bbokum (.) The 2 person sharable platter included the main entree the Spicy Pork in the center, the scambled egg, shredded cheese and corn all on the outer rim of the round platter as a side. Not necessarily the most traditional fashion of eating Jae Yuk Bbokum, but then again what part of Canada is "traditional" with it being a cultural melting pot of planet earth. This was an interesting experience... first Korean joint that didn't rush out a bowl of rice out to my father and I. I think that made our experience better. The spicy pork itself was it good? Not impressive at all One waitress was very rude and not friendly to my kid. She kept telling what not to do while I was watching him very closely and it made us all embarrassed. My wife and I had hot pot ( seafood /crab ) and after 1-2 hours after the dinner there, we both had to rush to the restroom several times. The seafood must have gone bad or the ingredients may have gone bad.... Not to mention that we found a long brown hair piece in a sprout dish....... Not great quality food, not friendly staffs, hair in the food....And extra charge for a bowl.of rice which is supposed to come along with the food..... If you like Korean bbq, cheese, and corn, this is the place for you. We got the non spicy pork this time because my toddler can't eat spicy yet. Normally we order the spicy squid and pork duo for the hot plate. We chose to leave some meat and cabbage behind so we could make the leftover fried rice ($5 per bowl) which was even yummier the next day. The mandoo were hot and fresh. My son loves it. Tabom on Robson is super busy even on weekdays. We got there on a Tuesday at 5:45pm and we still had to wait 15 minutes. We haven't been disappointed yet. The servers are attentive and kind. Ta Bom was not only a delicious restaurant to dine from, but the overall concept of a hot plate with cheese, egg and corn on the bulgogi plate is such a fun idea. My friends and I were greeted immediately upon our arrival and has followed proper covid procedures. It was a packed evening and loud music was playing, contributing to their vibe of the restaurant, making it more fun and brought back a lot of nostalgic pre-covid nights drinking with friends and having a great time. Three of us tried Ta Bom on Sunday, September 30, we got the special hot pot and hot plate sliced beef. The kimchi hot pot was delicious! The sliced beef was not. The beef had no flavor, was not marinated nor had any salt on it. The hot plate came with a dipping sauce and dipping salt but it wasn't enough. The meat and the cabbage that came with it was quite bland. Not sure why there was a thumbs up icon next to the item. Don't trust it. All-in-all service was good and we prepared to wait to get a seat but didn't need to wait long. read more

Awesome atmosphere loud music and very hip. A great transformation of the old Norboo which was almost always empty. If you're coming here on a Friday or Saturday night expect to wait DOUBLE the time they quote you. If you can, go on an off day or not during peak hours.. we got there by 6pm and couldn't sit down until 7:15p. We were quoted 30 minutes -_- The tables don't flip quickly here as the most popular dish takes awhile to get through. Dak-galbi is what it's called it costs $14/person and the you have an option to add "the volcano" of rice and egg whites for further barbecuing delight that costs $5/person extra AND if you want to have extra to take home after because by the time that comes you are going to be FULL. It's spicy chicken on an iron grill surrounded by cheese, corn, and egg to balance out the spicy flavour. Be sure if you opt for the volcano to save some of your chicken from the first round and mix it all together when the rice comes (makes for a better leftover dish to eat the next day). We also added ramen noodles because we just love it but you don't have to get that to enjoy the uniqueness of this dish. read more

I come here probably once a month with my girlfriend or friends, it's almost like a tradition. Great place to catch up with people, great place to get a drink on (drink responsibly!) and food is absolutely delicious. Any hot plate, the cold spicy buckwheat noddles, the kimchi soup are always ordered when I come here. Also can't go wrong with a pitcher of beer and a chumchurum! Staff is very polite and have great personality, they always come and help us cook our food and refill our water or drinks if needed. Was here this past Sunday will be back shorty haha. read more

First time trying out this restaurant. Pretty nice ambiance. Friendly staff as well and pretty attentive. I ordered a dish that i was forced to order a double portion of, when I wanted just 1. Became 2x$18 plus $5 for cheese, yes 5$ for about 30-40grams if cheap grated cheese. Ordered the Spicy pork and octopus stirfry. Came with a side of some marinated pieces of potato, some sprouts and kimchi, and a bowl of rice. The dish itself was tasty and filling, but not worth $40. It was enough food for 2 people easily so I don't know why they made a rule you have to order it x2? Not in a hurry to return but might try some other dishes in the future. read more

Food is so good. The spicy chicken with cheese and corn, and even better with steamed egg for only couple dollars more. The blue crab soup is super yummy too! Most people go for their spicy chicken and bulgogi with cheese and corn, but you should try their soups too. The pork bone soup is delicious too. I'm not sure if they take reservations cuz the restaurant is pretty small. Be prepared to wait for awhile if you do plan to go, but it's worth the wait. read more

We arrived at the restaurant @ exactly 2:10pm. (Proof -- I texted my fiancé my Smart health card to check in.) We got seated and make my first order at 2:20p.m. and an add in dish around 2:30p.m.. We waited. Then somehow two tables that got seated after us got their foods out first. I felt something was wrong. So I asked a server about my order of when will the foods come out cause it will be 3:00pm in two mins. Ta-da! As expected, our order was forgotten. Then the nice server sis came to apologize due to short staff and will prioritize our order. But we have to decline the offer and left the place because the wait had dissipate our hunger. Our disappointment was too great to even want to try out the foods. We were really disappointed about Ta Bom's management; since it's the weekend, restaurant needs more servers to help out. We felt bad that there's only one busy male server taking orders, greeting guests, making sure stoves are off as needed, etc.. Staff need to be trained more on gender equality and diversity. When I arrived alone, I told the host I have a friend who is on the way and will be joining me. There was a booth and a table available. The host asked me if the second person was a guy or a girl, which I thought was a weird thing to ask but I said it's a guy, he then seated me at the table. He added that if I was with a girl, I will be getting the booth. Eventually the party for the booth arrived and it was two guys, so I called out the host for being sexist. He then claimed that there are two more people arriving to the party and let's see if they are girls or not. I was disgusted and was in shock. Nobody else joined that booth after. I would have understood if the question was about the party size, but gender? That's discrimination. I didn't request to move seats but he eventually relocated me to a booth.
