We have been traveling to Cancun several times over the past year and usually have amazing experiences at the local restaurants. Tonight's experience at Taboo is in stark contrast to my normal experiences. We waited approx hour for our drinks. Our group of 7 waited over 2 hours for our food, Some of the food was lukewarm at best. We had to flag down the waiter several times for new bottles of water. The ambiance was great and from what we could see the entertainment looked nice. Unfortunately they sat our group upstairs and none of the entertainment experiences came up to that level. So we were left having to get up and watch the experiences from the balcony. Unfortunately, the only people that were sitting up stairs were of African descent while there were virtually none of African descent on the floor with the entertainment. On my way from Cancun as we speak. My best friend preset reservations for 10 at Taboo. We heard it was the premiere restaurant to try, so we decided we would eat there for her birthday dinner. Immediately upon entering the restaurant, completely stunning. All of the hostess are in white long flowy dresses. Everyone looks very presentable. I felt like I was at an elite restaurant. The decor was supreme. The staff, exceptional. Our waitress was beyond amazing. Theh event brought a little stand to hold our purses and to go bags which was very convenient. I ordered lemonade as my friend. I don't expect fresh squeezed lemonade, but I could tell that it was fresh. Our waitress was so kind and attentive. It really made our ordering process seamless. I had the filet tacos. BEST FREAKING FILET TACOS ever. Seasoned to perfection, filling and not overdone. They were simply perfect. If you don't want to eat too much but want something filling, I highly recommend. They were also reasonable priced. This party was shocking because normally restaurants that don't list prices are extremely expensive. It was very affordable. For a birthday dinner split between 5 people, I only paid $130 out of pocket. This included the orange cheesecake which was mouthwatering. It wasn't too cheesy or too sweet. It even had like like an orange sauce on top that really made the cake. I would've take some home if I wasn't watching my weight. Lol. Overall, I had a lovely experience here. Expect a grand birthday celebration where the staff comes to your table and others do single happy birthday. There is even small entertainment that the whole restaurant takes part in. There was a violinist and saxophonist that played during our reservation. Customers were encouraged to stand on the chains and clap and dance during the entertainment. It was loud and vibrant. What a total experience. The only thing I would say is that the place is a little warm, but if want unbearable. You can still enjoy your dinner and have a good time. Highly recommended. read more

Everything about our meal experience was great. On our short 7 day stay in Cancun we visited a different great restaurant each night and there was no other that comes remotely close to this one. In fact, this restaurant is at the top of all the restaurants I ever reviewed so far on Yelp. The atmosphere and music is very upbeat and happy. Apart from the fantastic presentation, our food was perfectly prepared. We had steak, salmon and a side of asparagus. For dessert, ice cream (which is made there) and perfectly prepared creme brûlée. We were informed that the group has two other restaurants in Cancun: Tora and Rosa Negra which we didn't get a chance to visit, but already on our itinerary for next time! read more

If I could give this place 100/10 stars I would. By far the best dinner I've ever been to. The experience mixed with the food and atmosphere makes every dollar worth it. Compared to other high end restaurants, the prices are so reasonable. We loved getting the hookah to our table to start out, and then getting xitle drinks (coconut cream espresso martinis). We got the octopus appetizer which was absolutely cooked to perfection. The vegan risotto was to die for, and the surf and turf was again, perfection. The cherry on top is the performers (electric violinist and saxophonist) The workers put us right on the water as well, which was amazingly beautiful. read more

Had the pleasure of eating at this restaurant our third night in Cancun. Such a beautiful setting, overlooking the ocean all around the restaurant! It began to rain for 10 minutes and stopped the rest of the night ( we stayed for hours). This is definitely an experience worth trying while in Cancun! This is more of a loud, super-charged, get up and dance restaurant. We enjoyed a quiet dinner at first, slow trance music played over candlelight, simply amazing. We enjoyed salted salmon, octopus, Jamon ibirico, and more. We ordered two rounds of drinks, I had strawberry margarita and a mango margarita and then we decided to order a bottle of tequila. Anytime a table orders a bottle of champagne, the music drops and gets really loud while Lil Jon plays "let's get f*** up" and a group of women arrive with sparklers, dancing and clapping getting the whole restaurant involved, it's a riot! It's only for champagne though, as our table ordered a bottle of Don Julio ,and still had girls bring it with sparklers and dancing but nothing compared to the show for champagne! As the night goes on, the performances start, we were wowed by a phenomenal violin player, a trumpet player, and a sparkler show, where large sparklers located around the restaurant light up at once and illuminate the restaurant as patrons dance, sing, and stand on chairs/tables and have a great time. The workers are not only fast and friendly but they encourage a good time, getting us to dance and stand up on chairs. We honestly didn't want to leave! LOL dinner and dance club all in one! The music changed to a variety of club favs by the end of the night, but we eventually had to leave because we were in Cancun for Ozunafest and left for that. If you want dinner, a show, and a party this is the place to go! We were here for hours, it was amazing! Beautiful, clean and the bathrooms are large with multiple floor length Mirrors (perfect for selfies). Loved, loved, loved this place! Wow. I came here with my family last September and what an amazing restaurant. The service, the ambiance, and the decor was gorgeous and top tier. The food items were ok but it didn't matter because of how inclusive and fun the restaurant was. Fast forward to this year and what a terrible place. We had brought many friends and my friends parents here to show them how great the spot was. We had reserved tables in the main area. We arrived and were instantly moved to the back left section away from all of the action. They removed 5 seats from our party (an entirely spearate reservation) even though we had multiple reservations to account for our large group. The server started to yell and cuss at me and my sister and friends to order food. I am a native spanish Speaker and the server knew and decided to yell at my friends' parents anyways. The service was just awful. One of the most boring nights in a place that was so lively the last time. After an hour of ordering drinks one set of my friends parents left because no food, water or drinks had reached or table. After 1 hour and 45 minutes our food came. I just ordered a vodka pasta because I was starving and the service has been terrible. It was elementary and inedible. I can't believe this place has sunk so low after being so great. The service man continued to be rude to my other friends parents to the point where they also left. We are now at a total of 9 people in our 22 party group leaving because of how terrible Taboo was. Just extremely disappointed and have not felt this embarrassed and ashamed (because this was me and my family's recommendation to the group). Unacceptable service, we were forgotten but the staff for an hour and a half, no drinks delivered until 90 minutes later, put in the wrong section. My recommendation to come here after visiting Cancun annually for 20 years was a taboo decision. What a joke. read more

Im giving to 2 stars because I payed way too much for some salty ass fish. I ordered there catch of the day but they brought there super expensive salted crusted fish . I tried giving it a chance but It was horrible. I also ordered the mushrooms. Man way too salty . I'm not a pro cook but dam they need to ease on the salt. We also ordered three steaks that were all cooked incorrectly. Also the oyster tasted bad . I love oysters but they tasted like sewage . On top of all that this a huge bill . I'm not sure where to start or which part I should rave the most about. The ambiance is amazing. From the moment you walk in to being seated, you know you're in for a special experience. The service is top notch-- our servers did everything possible to make sure our food came out at the right time, everything was delicious and our drinks were always filled. They even made great suggestions for food for the kids. The food though. WOW, WOW, WOW! The hummus is out of this world. We also ordered a pastry filled with brie cheese and topped with honey. It was so decadent. I actually took it home and had it for breakfast. Even the salad (we got the house/Greek salad) was something to write home about. Everything is so fresh and no detail is overlooked. We ordered the catch of the day which was delicious though we didn't do it justice since we were so full from everything we had before it arrived. I will say that taking kids to this restaurant isn't ideal but is possible. I'd recommend going early because this place gets very loud and not so kid friendly after dark. read more

This place will absolutely blow your mind. I live in la and have gone to some of the best restaurants in LA and Vegas and they don't compare to this place. You get a hole experience when you come here. The guy playing an instrument is absolutely amazing. What I will say is that there are too many employees around and the girls dancing are in the way if you want to go to the bathroom. I had to ask them a couple of time to move out the way because they would stand talking in front of the stairs to go to the powder room. Out of it the waiters and entertainment was extraordinary. My boyfriend did get food poisoning from his dish I'm now sure if it's the wood plates they use that caused it but I didn't get any food poisoning. I got the branzino and my bf got the Greek meatballs. We also tried the hummus which was amazing. My bf is Armenia and he said that's the best hummus he's ever tasted. Also if you're getting simple water just make sure you tell them not bottled since they were charging us extra for the water we didn't order. I guess we had to be more specific. Like they need a new kitchen staff, the prawns in the paella were cooked properly and were so mushy it was awful. Pasta rigatoni was over cooked and taste like pizza sauce and milk. Honestly, I didn't like the food too much. My friends & I ordered family style so I had the chance to try the tiger shrimp, stuffed calamari, regular calamari with black mayo which was actually decent but not great, black risotto with calamari ink which I barely touched, vodka rigatoni & the other pasta with the light orange sauce (don't remember what it is called) & didn't care for any of it like that tbh. The energy tho... that's a different story! If you care for the experience & want to plan a dinner in Cancun, it's still worth a shot. Just order what you're familiar with! The vibes is amazing & it's such a beautiful loungey restaurant with a boardwalk. Also, make sure u refrain from going to the restroom & taking pictures in there (restrooms are huge & really nice btw). I missed out on most of a sparklers light show that they hold once a night because of it smh haha. What an excellent restaurant!! I'm so glad we stumbled across it. The food, the decor, the service, ambience everything is amazing. They had great upbeat music playing. We went for lunch, looks like they have DJ and music/dance in the evenings. We sat by the water, the view was very good. We didn't have drinks, but selection of drinks was great. Even their restrooms are cool. Our bill was about USD 60 for three of us. They had good vegetarian options. The presentation of the dishes was quite something. Loved the place.
