We enjoyed happy hour special with a $30 pitcher of white sangria which we shared and it easily gave us 3-4 drinks each (or you can order a single glass for $7) The appetizers were amazing too. She orders chicken nachos and i had the chicken mofongo. The plantain was so soft and delicious i can honestly say it was the BEST mofongo cup I've had in a long time. (I don't like it too crunchy or crispy. ) They didn't offer us any water but honestly we didn't mind either bc we were sitting outside and had our own water bottles. Just thought it was. Dropped here on a whim, should have read the reviews they aren't wrong. The service is great. The music selection was on point. 18% service fee will be added to your check. I'm not sure if it was because we ate late or because we were a party of 4. We ordered the food at 11:34pm received it around 12:15am. I get it, it was late the kitchen was probably closed we were grateful to have been served but all and all I wouldn't consider going back. Food was subpar and very expensive for what it was and what you get rice beans and chicken should never be $20 bucks. Abysmal. Went there because the other spots were still full from brunch, so went in for drinks and boy, they tasted like Shyt. Let's order margaritas for the first round we thought, then upon looking at their menu we saw that they offered similar drinks as other downtown spots with the champagne and beer spiffs, but the pricing was wrong. They were charging $40 for a Champagne spiff margarita where it costs $23-$25 further down town. As a bartender and mixologist, it is my job to know flavors. The margaritas that we ordered, one frozen and the other on the rocks, were disgusting. Rubbing alcohol as liquor with cheap lime juice flavored corn syrup, and the one on the rocks was just cheap tequila with strawberry syrup. Has the pastelitos (empanadas) and they tasted like oil. The mix inside was plentiful just not edible. I understand the struggle for restauranteurs to make as much money through drinks as possible to cover margins to produce a profit. Friday night was my saving grace to end a turbulent week. With a work colleague we trekked to Dyckman in Inwood / Washington Heights of Northern Manhattan in hopes to dispel the negative energy that constituted a broken spirit. Lured by a A-frame floor sign marked "HAPPY HOUR" we decided to give it the o' college try and ordered mojito and pina colada. This bar contributed further to turbulent and disturbing times. Service was unwelcoming with disgruntled, stolid and unenthusiastic attitude to provide customer service in a hospitality business. At first impression this cafe appears quiet and we entered waiting to be greeted and seated but no hostess offered salutations greetings. We flagged a man who appeared to be a bouncer and customer who cleared one outdoor table under a umbrella and offered the table to us. We ordered our respective drinks which took half hour to be served. Mint Mojito $5 good quality. Pina Colada $5 unorthodox served on the rocks in a double old fashioned glass and very watery. We were baffled at the ghastly sight and content as Tabu is a Latino cafe/ bar and produced a poor quality nontraditional on the rocks. It was NOT served frozen, no pineapple wedge, no maraschino cherry and was not served in a highball glass. I did not taste any rum nor pineapple juice but only coconut juice. Applebee's produces a good quality pina colada than Tabu. Woman, if your business does not have a blender then do not offer this drink to customers and have the courtesy to advise customers: "we do not have make pina coladas because we do not have a blender." However, there was no communication from Marlene our nefarious waitress. Dismay! Look away everything is utter extreme dismay. An atmosphere of malaise. My colleague was somewhat hungry and decided to order chicken tenders and then more waiting, waiting over forty three (43) eternal minutes and subsequently cancel this food order to make a fast exit. Why does chicken tenders take so long to cook? Did the staff have to travel to a chicken farm north of NY's Hudson Valley to slaughter a chicken and travel back to NYC to do the food preparation and cooking? "The reason why it takes so long for your chicken tenders is because it needs to be printed." I did not know chicken need to be printed on a high performance digital printing press to be cooked. The poor communication skills originates in the staff's L.E.P. (Limited English Proficiency). Printing chicken? This is full of malarkey! I rather be jaded than naïve. I wanted to get out from this nexus of evil as I feel WORSE when leaving this business than before entering. Attitude is everything. I displayed my mobile Yelp check-in offer to this antagonistic waitress who did not know what Yelp was and then inquired with someone else and immediately denied this offer discount. Requesting change for our bill also took fifteen minutes as I had to walk to the bar counter and stand in front of the cashier which is a grinding chore for the staff as it create work. Gratuity is automatically included in the bill of 18% and disdain extremely poor service below standard received. So far so good this has to be one of the best spots to check out on the Dyckman strip. This is my 3rd time coming to this place and all 3 times I have been served right. I have taken family and friends to this place and they love it. What I mostly like about this place is you can either sit outside on a covered patio or sit inside your choice. Ounce you're seated down and ready to get served the waitress named Lisbeth will come with the menus. She's such a great person makes you feel at home kind of girl. A hookah guy name John comes to the table he's also a great guy very humble does a great job with the hookah's his skills to make them are great. I highly recommend anyone that is a hookah smoker to stop by this place and check him out The hookahs are greatly priced. One of my favorite things about coming to this place is the hookahs are copper not steel, theirs a great difference in quality most people don't know that. Stainless Steel hookah stems can eventually rust overtime, and can cause a bacterial throat infection with time. Compare to Copper on the other hand will not rust. The music is great DJ plays it all a nice mixture of Spanish and American music. If you're looking to watch a Sports game or even a fight theirs also a few TV's inside. What I also like is they also do karaoke nights, I don't sing but its fun to watch other people try to sign the words of the TV. Love, love love! I was passing by here and a friend suggested I come join her and her friends. It was a beautiful sunny day so we were all seated outside. Tabu Cafe and Wine is an intimate bar and hookah spot to go to during the week for happy hour. They have a huge selection of hookah flavors and I tend to go for the orange & cinnamon mix each and every time. Do they offer appetizers? Yes, they have a selection of appetizers here and my personal favorite is the empanada. You can pick and choose a few items if you're sharing with friends. The kitchen isn't open super late (around 11pm or so) so if you're looking for a small bite the earlier the better. The drinks aren't bad at all. I tend to get the pitchers of mojitos, typically passion fruit, when I'm with a group. They do have a special during Wednesday's, I believe, where you get a free hookah when you order a pitcher. Who can go wrong with free hookah? Customer service isn't the greatest, but you're in Dyckman... enough said. Do I go here often? Yes. Will I be back? Absolutely! We went as a party of three and informed the host - or busboy...whatever he was; that we have more people coming who are all arriving within a 20 min time span. 10 minutes later, they ask us to move to a 2 top so they can accommodate a 5 top. I politely declined and told them it makes no sense...they looked confused and agreed. They also kick you out if you're not buying anymore drinks. When I go out what I really look forward is to have fun. TABU plays Spanish music such as merengue, bachata, salsa, dembow, regue. In TABU the atmosphere is really vivid. You can order any drinks just make sure you are 21 or older and bring your ID because they will ask for it. TABU also has great Hookah. I can say this place prepares the best hookah in town. They have so many different flavors you can choose from. The only negative thing I can say about this place is that is really small it doesn't really have an area to just dance. I'm seriously thinking of reporting this place for their business practices. I went there this past weekend with a friend and when I paid my tab I realized that my gratuity was added to my $40 bill. 18% was added without my knowledge. The tricky part is when you give your card the receipt they give you doesn't show the gratuity was added and in fact has a line for tip. The receipt only states the total amount and another line for tip... doesn't even say additional tip, so the customer is basically tricked into paying the included 18 percent without knowledge. I checked the menu to see if it stated that tip was automatically included and it didn't. I went up to the waitress who was at the cash register to ask her and she just walked away.( shes a very heavy set, short lady with light skin) As i stood there waiting to talk to her I saw her ring up another customer and saw that SHE ADDED THE 18 PERCENT !!!!!! SO basically this waitress was adding herself a tip to customers bills and then giving them a receipt with no mention of it , and having them then give her an additional tip... what a scam! I tried speaking to her about it and she was pretending to be confused so I left and put on my receipt that the tip was already added. read more

It sounds like a lot of food but they give you small portions of each choice so that the plate is for one person and you have a bit of everything. A perfect plate for someone indecisive or craving multiple things. The reason they only get 4starts is that their sangria was OKAY(it was watered down a bit), the hookah although it was great it was also over the top expensive and the place is really small so the chairs are very uncomfortable and people are always bumping into you. We came across a sign that said "LATE BRUNCH $25" and we decided to give it a shot. Best decision ever, the menu was actually a brunch menu with 1.5 hours of unlimited sangria or mimosas and a choice of Appetizer and Entree. I had the fried Calamari as an appetizer, and the Steak (Churrasco) and eggs with Yuca Fries as an entree. I chose the sangria. My sister had their wings with the signature sauce, and the classic burger deluxe. She also chose the mimosas. The hookah was also good, average price.
