I broke my leg, was all puffy from the medications, etc, etc. AMY IS A METICULOUS DIVINE MASTER WORKER who made me feel in control of my life again. Go see her. She took her time and used it well. I love my new hair! Trevor P. is an absolute dream. I had gone to another salon for a change and it turned out terrible. I even went back to give the stylist a second chance and it got even worse. My hair was in shambles- breakage, awful color, nothing like I asked for. I sat in Trevor's chair and he and I talked about a solution. He listened attentively to my desired hair results and then offered a game plan and strategy to help us solve the initial problems first. Not only did he "fix" my terrible color but he made it better than it's been in years. He took a nightmare and transformed it into something beautiful and natural. Tabula Rusa is an adorable salon on Cannon St. The environment is very comfortable and relaxed, not too loud but not eerily quiet. The staff was super-polite and very helpful from the moment I walked in for my hair appointment. I spoke with several employees and they were each very knowledgeable about different color options and product lines. I had a thickening treatment, highlights, lowlights and a cut...and my hair looks beautiful! It was a really great experience and I can't wait to go back. This place is awesome. The receptionists start your visit with a greeting that makes you feel welcome. I always go to Emily Wood, and she always knows what to do. I know NOTHING about hair and highlights, yet she was able to take my idea of what i wanted and bring it to life. She is very friendly and holds a great conversation, and I have never felt rushed. AMAZING EXPERIENCE. I have been struggling to find a salon in Charleston that doesn't charge over $150 for a cut and highlight (I have lots of hair). Chery did my hair and she did a fabulous job. Perfect cut and color. She listened and discussed with me exactly what I wanted and was able to get it all done under two hours. Best color I've ever had done, by far. My consultation with the owner, Melissa, was attentive and in-depth; she was great at listening to what I wanted and offering her own suggestions without being pushy, and I couldn't be happier with the results (I'd recently gotten some pretty harsh highlighting done, and wanted to smooth out the streakiness with a subtle ombre at the roots and generally get a richer depth close to my natural color and brighter blonde going on that complimented my skin tone). She also gave me some great styling tips for my hair type and lack of experience. The salon was clean, friendly, professional, modern, and fun. I'll definitely be going back! Today was my first visit to Tabula Rasa and I LOVED it! They were amazing Melissa did such a great job finding the exact color I wanted for my hair and got the cut perfect. I have psoriasis, so I don't go to salons because it's something I'm super embarrassed about, even though I can't help it. I was excited to go to this salon because of the great reviews I read. I just wanted to color my hair and cut it. However, my experience was not the best. Once the stylist went through my hair and asked what I had going on, and I told her, the look on her face was like I had the plague. She wasn't comfortable coloring my hair because she didn't want to put chemicals on it. Okay, fine. I could understand that. I figured she would at least do the wash and cut, but her next statement of "I'm not even sure if I should shampoo it " is what really got me. Thats when I could tell that she just didn't want to touch me. I've never been so embarrassed in my life. Especially with a couple other people sitting around who could hear her. She was rude and unprofessional. This is a place I will definitely make sure to never step foot in again. read more

One star for the shampoo. One for using a scissors. This was my only experience here and i would not recommend ali. I have long wavy, thick hair in graduated layers. I went for a trim to get the layers tidied up since it had been a few weeks. Instead of working through the layers, my hair was parted and a free hand cut of sorts delivered, ruining my layers and existing hair cut. The erstwhile 3 bottom layers are all one botched length and the graduated ends lopped off! The entire (sloppy) job took 25 mins, which included the time for a shampoo (typically my hair cuts with regular salon in SF take an hour just for the cut since i have pretty long hair). The place lives up to its name- it does give you a clean slate although if erasing your hairstyle is the goal, you can get a comparable result at Supercuts??!! Maybe they felt it didn't matter because I was from out of town, but they've lost my business since i am in town ever so often, and the business of my hostess (who had recommended this place to me). Try strawberry blonde instead or maybe another stylist here who probably knows how to work with layers. read more
