My appointment at Tabula Rasa was with Casey for a cut/ blow-dry. From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted with a smile and southern hospitality at its finest. Sydney (front desk) welcomed me and offered a glass of water, wine, beer, etc... She was so sweet! The salon itself is clean and organized. You don't feel cramped or like your overhearing other peoples conversations. Casey was wonderful. She first sat me down and asked me what it was that I came in for. She patiently waited as I described exactly what I was looking to do with my hair. She was so easy to talk to, it felt like I was talking to an old friend. Throughout the cut, she was letting me know what she was doing, and offered simple suggestions for me without being overbearing. Her cut and style turned out great and as I was paying Casey even let me know there was a MUSC discount (awesome)! The whole experience was wonderful. I never felt rushed, awkward, or uncomfortable. There was a prompt and friendly greeting at the front desk. In addition, everything is clean and modern- a well thought out salon. I was already pleased. Just thought I'd write an update to my 2017 review. They remain the best! I was in a crunch to get my grays gone for the holidays and of course I call on Tuesday before Christmas!! LOL Anyway - Brianna was able to squeeze me in with Trevor (my usual go to gal is Amy but she was slammed packed booked) the next day! Trevor was great at helping me get my Pixie back. I had waited too long for a haircut and I was a hot mess. Even though he knew I would not be a repeat customer (just visiting family while I am on work in the country) he took time to reshape and style my hair into a short Pixie cut that will grow well as I look for a new barber or stylist in the city I just moved to. I specifically asked for a very short cut that will look good with a conservative side part or as a faux hawk. He delivered and paid extra attention to thin it out so my hair is light enough to lay in different styles without a ton of product. The rest of the staff was nice, as well, and even offered wine or beer. A good, clean shop with professional staff. I recommend Trevor for anyone looking to go short. read more

It is the only place I'll go to get my hair cut as it's: 1. close to MUSC (where I work) 2. staffed with talented people 3. a lovely place to have a complementary drink and spend some time getting a beauty treatment 4. a relaxing environment 5. a local business that is doing a great job. You should try it out. All of their staff are very talented, so you can't go wrong. Just last week I had to reschedule twice due to the construction (which is finished now). Tina Bell is my new stylist and she is fantastic! I moved from Atlanta and had been going to the same gal for 12 years, so I was nervous about trying someone new. Tina rocked my hair and even gave me a better cut that I had been getting in the ATL. I've gotten so many compliments. The salon is downtown but they have a little parking lot in the back - BONUS! One of the best parts of my wedding was getting ready for the big day with my closest friends, champagne in hand and laughing the whole day. My bridal party and I had the most wonderful experience doing just that at Tabula Rasa Salon! Melissa and the whole staff delivered above and beyond my expectations! I had eight bridesmaids, and two Jr. bridesmaids. Tabula Rasa was professional and fun throughout the entire process, from organizing the schedule to understanding my vision to delivering the best hair and makeup! They even accommodated the girls that changed their minds the day of the wedding and wanted to get their hair and makeup done last minute. Tabula Rasa is such a beautiful laid-back salon and the energy helped me relax before the main event! They gave us the whole back of the salon to get ready and bonus: the salon made a beautiful backdrop for my getting ready pictures. I wanted a bohemian chic braided updo. Michelle did my hair and she was amazing! If you are looking for a braided updo, she is your gal! All the other girls wanted something different curls, updos, half up/half down and everyone looked beautiful. Most importantly, everyone felt beautiful. We all got airbrushed makeup and fake eyelashes. Not only did everyone look stunning but the makeup stayed put through all the dancing, all the laughter, and all the tears. All in all, the experience of getting my bridal hair and makeup done at Tabula Rasa was one of the highlights of my wedding. I was pleased to find when I got there that they have their own small parking lot behind the building so finding parking was not an issue. The girl at the front desk with very friendly. She informed me that they have complementary drinks (water, soda, beer, wine, coffee, etc.). I also had a great view right next to the window while I was getting my haircut. I had never seen Amy before, as I'm still a fairly new client to Tabula Rasa (Melissa gave me a great trim last fall), but I figured if she worked for Melissa, she had to be good. The ability to make online appointments is great for someone like me who thinks of scheduling stuff at the very end of the day. I booked an appointment through the website for a haircut with Michelle. Great atmosphere. Michelle was attentive and made sure I was comfortable with everything she was doing. She had a lot of good recommendations, but didn't feel like she was trying to upsell me. I'll definitely book another appointment with her. My only complaint is when I first arrived at the salon, the receptionist was in the phone making a personal call (discussing her holiday travel plans) and didn't even look up to greet me. She made sure to wrap up herself conversation first before checking me in. Not a good first impression, but I won't let it affect my decision to book again with Michelle. read more

1) Had to wait 45 minutes despite having a confirmed appointment. 2) Gal at the front desk asked me if I parked in there parking lot, I said "yes" and she then says, "I'll need your car keys in case we need to re-position the cars." I'm like, what? This was just weird and inappropriate. I would have parked on the street if I knew I had to give my keys up. So, I very reluctantly gave her my keys, thinking she would put them in a safe place...not so much. She kept them sitting on the front counter in plain view the entire time. Often left the desk to attend to things in the salon and the keys just sat their. Ultimately, I just took the keys back. 3) The actual hair cut was pretty good (not great, but good) - which is why I give 2 stars. Otherwise, I would have given this place no stars.
