Adult beverages had no description and I had to ask our server - who was extremely rushed and abrupt. The tables are oddly high so that the table top was level with my sternum. And I'm tall. I have a son who's small statured and it was awkward eating. And the burritos come wrapped in aluminum foil. So you can fold the foil down and eat it from your hands. Or you can unwrap and eat with a knife and fork. Buuuuut it's served on paper that gets destroyed if you use knife and fork. Plus my food was just okay. Oh - and none of our meals came with any sides. Just the entree. So - it was...okay. Margarita was good though. *Quick edit. A note on presuming confidence. I have an adult son with a developmental disability. My younger son ordered first. Then the server said to my younger son "and what does he want" while gesturing (not looking) at my older son with a disability. Dude! He's more than capable of telling you his order. He doesn't need his younger brother ordering for him. Sure, maybe not every person with a developmental disability can do their own order. But ASSUME that they CAN. If they cannot, someone at the table will let you know and will help them get their order in. Okay, off my soapbox. But that needed to be said

Just your usual chain Mexican restaurant with lots of space inside. We were seated instantly and there was no wait on the chips and salsa (the best part). Our server was attentive and friendly. We got the guacamole mexican style which was so good. I ordered the fajitas tropicales (which also came with rice and beans) and my husband got the molcajete. Both came steaming hot and the portions were huge. I loved the addition of pineapple to my fajitas. My mango margarita hit the spot as well. Great dinner!

Restaurant is huge and even though it was quite busy, we were immediately seated. I had assumed it might be a bit slow since they were so busy. Not at all-I've never seen so many servers hustling so hard. Our chips and salsa were quickly dropped off while we studied the menu. Chips were warm and fresh and the salsa had a nice taste to it. We both opted for fajitas-one steak and one chicken. Both the steak and chicken were excellent in my opinion. Vegetables and meats had a nice tasting "simmer sauce" which produced great flavors. As I had mentioned the excellent service, drinks were never left empty. Also, this has never happened to me in a Mexican restaurant - the manager or owner was active on the floor and stopped by to insure or meal was good. It was better than good. A nice surprise finding Las Trancas.

Dripping this on the chips and my Mexican rice was my favorite part of the meal, Guacamole - the fresh diced tomatoes and red onion added crunch and flavor which I really enjoyed. Salsa - I'm a little torn on this. The salsa was fresh and flavorful but there is a different flavor here that I can't put my finger on that tasted different from other Charleston area Mexican restaurants of tried when in town. I also ordered the combination taco plate with Birria taco and chicken tinga. I wasn't expecting sour cream in the chicken tinga taco so I couldn't finish that. I tried to eat around to get the chicken but the sauce was not very good. This didn't taste like chicken tonga and I wouldn't order it again. The Birria taco also did not taste like Birria that I've had. This was more like beef roast on a taco with toppings. It wasn't bad and it wasn't good but it also didn't come with consume which was disappointing. The sides were rice and beans and while they were ok, I was expecting more flavor and authentic Mexican cheese instead of the plain shredded cheese on top. This was very, very Americanized Mexican food but I think they know their audience. Whatever you do, don't order a Margherita from here. I should've learned my lesson about Charleston area Mexican restaurants the last time I was in town but unfortunately I thought it was just the other restaurant down the block. I'm convinced they use grain alcohol or some other very cheap liquor in these in some of the Mexican restaurants in the area. The flavor was way off and was definitely not tequila. I only had this drink on a full stomach and it gave me a headache and nausea the next day.

Clash of Two Towns -- Comparing South Charleston's Los Agaves to Montgomery's El Jalisco…read moreI'm a big fan of Jalisco Pasta and Jalisco Dip from El Jalisco. Those are two of my go-tos. I haven't been to Los Agaves in years. Honestly, the last time might have been while I was still with my ex, and that's been a hot minute! I noticed some similarities in the menus and that's how I came up with the idea to compare the two. Los Agaves has a Los Agaves Dip with steak, chicken, and shrimp. Sound familiar? Yes, it is almost identical to Jalisco Dip. However, it is a tad cheaper and a tad better, honestly. It is $10.95 at Los Agaves and $11.95 in Montgomery. It's a tight race but Los Agaves would win in a dip challenge. Next up was the pasta. I ordered the Pasta Bowl. The difference between this pasta and El Jalisco are the noodles. Los Agaves uses penne while El Jalisco uses fettuccine. Jalisco Pasta will run you around $13.95 for the chicken and shrimp. Los Agaves gives you the option of steak ($11.25), chicken ($10.95), or shrimp ($12.25). This is where El Jalisco blew Los Agaves out of the water. There was zero comparison here. Los Agaves Pasta Bowl was dry as heck. I searched desperately for the queso sauce which had coagulated to the bottom of the bowl. It was so dry that I poured the rest of my dip on the penne noodles to make it palatable. That is seriously the only way I could eat it, and I still couldn't finish it. It was so yucky that I gave the leftovers to David and HE wouldn't even eat it. And you know my kid is like Mikey -- he'll eat anything. I DID like comparing these two places and I would DEFINITELY eat some more of that Dip though!
