We rarely get fast food but I had a gift card to use so we stopped to use it today at this Taco Bell. We got her food quickly it was accurate with plenty of sauces. The lack of beef in the taco stunned me. I have not had Taco Bell in about six months. Where really has the beef gone? The amount is less than the mass of my finger- and I have small hands. I'm glad we used the gift card but we won't be frequenting this TB, or any for that matter. The staff was friendly and following COVID precautions so plus for that.

Drive thru server gave me my bag in a throwing manner. Skimpy on the cheese sauce. Beef in the Doritos locos tacos looked and tasted undercooked.

I'm guessing they forgot to add them so they just kind of threw them inside-ish?

Let me start by saying: I love a great taco. Hell, I love an average taco. It might be my favorite…read morefood. I have had tacos from almost every corner of Norteamerica. The man who creates the tacos at El Loco Panda does so with love, and you can tell - Love for his culture, Love for the community. When I was waiting for my order to be wrapped up, a disciple sitting in the waiting area piped up and said, "The food here is good." If I know Detroiters (cuz I am one), we're not quick to compliment. Like Mexico, there is great diversity in what we consider to be a "taco." You have ground beef, Al pastor, chicken, sea bass, mahi mahi, vegan. You can top it with everything from queso Fresca to a refined julienne radish slaw. IDGAF! As long as it's fresh and well done, I'm here for it! My favorite here? The birria by far. The consommé served on the side is quite delicious and unexpectedly elegant, like a rose from the concrete. I feel like Loco Panda and its' chef reflects the essence of the east side of Detroit. Lemme 'splain: The tacos are hearty. They are heavy with meat and (gasp) yellow cheese sauce. So hearty, he had to double up on tortillas! He further bucks tradition and goes against the grain stylistically (soooo Detroit) and tops with red onion instead of white! Where they do that at?! Whereas you usually need to eat 3-4 street tacos from the festival trucks or Southwest to get full, you'll be full off of 1-2 of these, trust. Think like the good "real" Mac n cheese that we eat versus Kraft . Think "dressing" versus "stuffing." I think what I am trying to say is, ..... these tacos have soul. I don't even think about the fact that it's housed adjacent to a gas station. That doesn't matter to me. So long as the kitchen is clean (and it is), I'm good wit it. As a matter of fact, I take away that the food mattered more to this owner than the zip code it was cooked in (shout to subpar, high rent Bakersfield on Woodward). This is real food cooked from the heart. And quite frankly, it doesn't get any better than that.

I tried their bbq ribs which I have never had before and they were amazing. They had a great char on them. Their tacos are still very good. I enjoy their carnitas meat. I'll have to come back for the chicken. Also Botanas. They are on the menu, and while I may have some deep reservations about this unique Detroit-Mexicantown dish, I'm going to have to return to try those too. But let's get to the tacos. I love that they are on small, doubled, corn tortillas. I love that they are only $3 a pop (less during Taco Tuesday). I love that they have some very traditional fillings. I love that they come with radishes and plenty of limes. After reading through some of the reviews I was compelled to try the following fillings, which are below in ascending order of their deliciousness: - Carne Asada: It's fine, but I wouldn't get it again. - Cabeza: Tender and flavorful, but oddly dry for a typically rich filling. - Carnitas: Juicy, tender, and delicious! A winner. Among the best I've had in the region. - Al Pastor: Yes! Finally! So far, the only good version I've found of this classic here in the area. I'd say it's a must order. Oddly, what dragged these tacos down for me was the choice of the corn tortillas. They were a bit too stiff, and their flavor was so pronounced that the shells overwhelmed the fillings. Typically in this type of situation, one can simply remove one of the two tortillas and just eat them gingerly to avoid the potential failure of the taco's structural integrity. However, my tortillas somehow fused together which made the operation impossible. What does that mean? Well, in future visits I am going to be looking for other ways to make the carnitas and al pastor shine! Maybe it's in a quesadilla. Perhaps a torta? Or could it even be atop a plate of Botanas? The mind boggles. But I'm looking forward to the journey and giving El Rey that fifth star when I find it. Oh, one last thing. The horchata is tooth achingly sweet. Next time I'll try another aqua fresca in the hopes it might be better.
