It was super loud as there was a fan blowing on the floor and they had the World Cup playing in the kitchen. We did not ask to move, however. The salsa and chips were good. That's always key to a restaurant. I ordered a raspberry blended margarita. It was very foamy and didn't taste 1 ounce of tequila in it. It tasted nonalcoholic. I did not like it. Having a good margaritas also is a main important thing at a Mexican restaurant. I ordered three à la carte tacos. The deep fried avocado, Al Pastor and steak. The avocado taco was strong in seasoning and actually tasted burnt. Couldn't eat it. As for the steak and Al pastor , those were very good. All in all, I don't think I'd be back because there's a lot of competition for Mexican restaurants. We did go 20 minutes out of our way to try this place and there's other places closer to us in Waukesha.

I ordered the los cabos (shrimp taco), riviera maya (talapia taco) with rice and beans. I also added lengua de res. All three tacos as well as the beans and rice were fantastic. Did I forget that the chips and salsa are good‍. Wish the salsa dish was bigger so I didn't have to break my chips to dip. The waitress we had was fantastic and made sure "without being on top of us" had cocktails and anything else we needed. And if you want a special treat and enjoy a great cocktail try the Maria Felix. The place is obviously a…read morerepurposed restaurant because it was two dining rooms with a bar and a fire place in the smaller dining room. The colors were tame and not all the bright colors like some Mexican restaurants. The tables and chairs were out of place because they had a country look to them. My server was super friendly and very nice for a very young woman. I was served chips and salsa while waiting for my strawberry margarita. The chips were warm and fresh but not seasoned. The salsa looked horrible because it was a purée but to my surprise it was the most flavorful part of my lunch with a nice garlic flavor. The strawberry margarita was above average because it had booze in it and a deep strawberry flavor that screamed strawberry, thank you. With only my order in the kitchen my food came very quick, the place was empty. I ordered the combination plate with a first for me, chicken in Mexican food for some reason. I had a ground beef taco, chicken enchilada and al pastor tostada with rice/beans. Although the food was good it was Americanized, bland and not seasoned. All the meats were moist I must say. I got the impression that they were cooking for the elderly population in Muskego. Overall if authentic Mexican food is not what your looking for and tame Americanized is your preference than this is the place for you.

It has improved tremendously and the food is still really good. Give this place a chance if you have tried it in the past and we're disappointed. It was good, but then I discovered there was a fruit fly floating in the drink. Stuff happens, and they quickly made me a new one, but there was no offer to comp the drink (and I didn't ask). We also ordered guacamole, salsa, and chips. Those were good, with nice chunks. The salsa was flavorful, with a good texture. For dinner, she got the pork belly tacos, and I ordered the special birria tacos. After a short wait, they both came out. They were good portions, with a nice side of rice and beans. The pork belly wasn't in chunks, but instead was shredded. The birria tacos had good flavor, and the consommé was rich and flavorful. Service: When we arrived, there were only two other tables, with a couple of people at each. We stood around waiting for someone to notice us and seat us. No water, just menus. After a while, the server was replaced by the owner, who did a good job taking our orders. Friendly and helpful. Atmosphere: The place hasn't changed much since our last visit. It has a bright color scheme. Since there were only a few tables, it was reasonably quiet. There are a couple of TVs on each wall, which I am not a fan of. Overall: Not an inspiring meal. It will probably be another long while before we come back.

The service was good, as it was a slow night. And because it was slow it was actually a reasonable volume inside. Every time we've visited prior, it's been too loud to even have a conversation. The food itself was pretty basic. I had the pork enchiladas with tomatillo sauce. The refried beans were delicious. The rice was really good. The tomatillo sauce was do flavorful. The pork was bland as heck. I was honestly let down a bit by that because I enjoy a good pork enchilada. I don't think I'd order it again. Hopefully the chicken and steak are better options. I'm sure I may be back at some point, it's a decent sized restaurant with a ton of parking space right in the middle of Muskego. But with so many other options for Mexican food within a 10 mile radius, Tres Locos just doesn't make the top of my list of options. If you're a fan of American-Mexican cuisine then this may be the place for you, I just prefer a more authentic taste.

I knew a cart sprang up a while ago and they were available again so I searched them out. I would get the three for $5 with one ground beef, spicy shredded pork and jalapeño/cream cheese to reacquaint my self with the tamales. I received one hot salsa and two mild sauces, no skimping here. After driving home with one store stop the tamales were still hot unlike my earlier breakfast restaurant sit down experience. The jalapeño/cream cheese was tamale was very interesting and I'm glad I tried it. The spicy shredded pork was good with a decent amount of pork. The ground beef was my favorite and that had a decent amount of meat in it also. I did put all the salsa and sauces on them which made for a nice plate that filled me up. It was nice to get my go to tamales again and know where they are so I can get them again because I always liked them, yah I'm a fan.

There are a couple of notes on the front door--one mentions that some menu items have an upcharge and recommends asking your waiter for details, while another states that there's an additional charge for using a credit card due to processing fees. It's good to know these things in advance. I do wish the menu listed which items have an upcharge, but I assume the waiter would mention it when ordering. I ordered a "Create Your Own Combo" meal with one quesadilla and rice and beans since I wasn't too hungry (plus, I have a hard time resisting the free chips and salsa). The salsa is nothing special but does the job. We also ordered the Choridip, which was great with the chips and as a topping for our entrees. My husband got the steak fajitas. The food came out quickly and in generous portions, so we had leftovers to take home. Unfortunately, my chicken quesadilla was a bit disappointing--the meat was watery, which made the tortilla soggy. Overall, it's not a bad spot for the price, but it wouldn't be my first choice.
