Adorable place with wonderful ambience. I agree that the staff does not seem very friendly. Most of the food was pretty good. My sister and I both had soup and it wasn't very hot. All four of us had greens with a vinaigrette dressing that came with our sandwiches. To me the vinaigrette was just OK, however, I ate my entire salad because I really wanted the vegetables. My husband tasted his and didn't eat anymore. He thought it was gross. I would suggest they offer the vinaigrette and have another kind of dressing as an option. As someone else said, I ordered a glass of water, and was taken aback when I was given bottled water and charged for it. I routinely order ice water at most places I eat at and don't get charged. I do think the wait staff should tell you that they only have bottled water. I was admiring the baked goods and decided to get a fruit tart. As someone else said, there are no prices on the items. I was pretty shocked when she told me that will be $9.98. I was expecting five or six dollars for the size of the item. I really enjoyed my stop here. It's been a few years since I've been here, and it was as charming as I remember. We went at the perfect time, as it wasn't busy at all. We got seated right away, and our waitress was kind and a good server. The place itself is so cute - a cozy decorated old home, chickens outside, a shop upstairs. Just really cute. In regard to food, I got the special of homemade chicken pot pie and YUUUM. It was truly so delicious. Desserts are a must here as well, obviously. I took home the largest chocolate croissant I ever saw and the raspberry white chocolate cheesecake - both so, so tasty! Been to the Gingerbread house numerous times. It's a unique place, and it always feels like a treat going there. It's a busy place during serving hours, and you need to be patient. During nice weather, there are plenty of places to visit outside, including a fenced area for chickens, geese and few other animals. It's not a petting zoo. The building is a restored/remodeled historical home. They have kept a lot of the architectural elements and the updated with modern conveniences. There are two floors. The upper used to hold a boutique for clothing items, and also a small bar, but I didn't go up this time to check it. They specialize is cakes, baked good, and pastries. You can find them displayed in cases near the kitchen. (You can also order wedding cakes, which I have tried and are amazing - but not cheap). They have different menus for breakfast, lunch and dinners. Including a special Friday Fish Fry. On this morning, came with a friend for breakfast. I normally get a chai latte which is very good. This morning I ordered a London Fog Latte (it wasn't on the menu, but they were able to make it - thanks). For food we got the Continental (yogurt, granola, fruit, and english muffin), and a Cheese Omelet. All the food was fresh, the right temperature, and good portions. We had terrific service the entire time. Thanks Liv. The dining area is a relatively small space, and when it fills up it can feel a little cramped (not a problem for this morning). Along with that it can get a little noisy too. So prefer to lean in to hear your table partners. Another very good experience. If I can made one suggestion. I've been wanting to try hummingbird cake for probably 10 years, but it's a Southern thing, and I'm never in the south. I just moved to the area last week, and I was really excited to find a place that makes it. I went yesterday. It was good, and the cream cheese frosting was outstanding. Unfortunately, the staff is very rude, both online and in person. I also think their prices are very high. I was planning to get some lunch to go along with my cake, but their prices for even a salad were too much. Even the piece of cake was $9. - Good food, great service, fun ambiance - No reservation made, I don't think you can - Would love to visit again! Revisited this cozy restaurant after my girlfriend hadn't been since she was younger, and we had a delightful experience with friendly staff and tasty food and drinks! I got the Patty Melt for my sandwich, and it was a nice and ooey gooey with every bite. The burger patty was seasoned well and cooked nicely, and the melted cheese and dressing made each bite pleasantly hefty. There was a plentiful amount of onions which gave it a nice texture and flavor that helped to cut through the richness of the saucy parts. They were also served with a side of wedge potatoes which were so good I had to bring them home even though I could only try a few after the sandwich. This big boy was quite filling, but it was so good I can imagine myself ordering it again on a chilly day. If I'm going to The Gingerbread House, of course I'm going to get some gingerbread, so I got the Gingerbread Cookie Latte (Iced)! I don't really eat gingerbread, so I don't know what to really compare it to, but the drink had some warmth notes and did taste cookie-esque, so no complaints! It also came with a gingerbread man on top, so yippy! My girlfriend got the 1/2 Grilled Cheese with 1/2 Soup and chose the Tomato Bisque and Aged Mozzarella. For the soup, it was good considering the creaminess with small chunks in each spoonful and the mega tomato flavor that was not too acidic! The sandwich was great and had an awesome cheese pull with all the cheese stuffed into it. They have a good variety of cheese options, so I can only imagine how good the others can taste. There was also some good crunch on it with the panini press! Together, the soup and sandwich were delicious and made for great dunking. She had gotten the Frozen Zebra with a shot of espresso for her drink. The drink was pretty chocolatey with the 2 kinds of chocolate and the syrup lining the cup. It was more of a slush with most of the hot chocolate and ice separating, but it being blended allowed for small ice to be mixed in and drank to still have the same effect. While it was my first time, I think my girlfriend enjoyed the return! Our food was good and the service was awesome! Our server Greta was very kind and gave great advice when ordering. She was personable and offered great service to make our visit feel even greater. The restaurant also doubles as a boutique for cute and fun items, but they are throughout the restaurant, so it provides great decor and adds to the warm atmosphere. Outside, they also have a chicken pen that was fun to look at and have an overall nice outdoor area. We did not get to try the desserts this time because we were so full, but they had a wide variety of very tasty looking pastries in their display that I would love to try another time. The place is adorable. An old two level farmhouse with a boutique. Bar upstairs for lunchtime. Menu is pretty expansive. Service was a bit slow. Food was pretty good. Fries were crispy and crunchy. Onion ring batter was light and airy though a bit greasy. Pot pie was very heavy. Lots of cream in the filling and lard in the crust. Comes without a top crust or pie pan below. An abundance of filling, mostly potatoes and carrots. Minimal chicken. Could've had some flavor. But overall it was pretty good. Patty melt was also good. But menu offers it with American cheese rather than the typical Swiss, though they made the substitution on request. Steak sandwich was cooked properly. When delivered, they thought it was a burger. Be aware, if ordering ice water, you'll be charged $2 for a bottle of water without warning. Sodas are by the can and $3 each. They won't split a check. Split plates get charged $3.50. Desserts are expensive and there are no prices posted in the cases. Will definitely try again though. read more

We were told the scones were chocolate chip so we purchased 2 only to find out they were cranberry (lemon) and our girls would not eat them. This restaurant is such a cute spot. We visited on December 21, 2024 and that place was super busy, plus we were told Santa was coming to visit that day as well. We called ahead of time to get the wait time and was told 15-20 minutes, but they got super busy on our hour travel and the wait was a little longer. Upon arriving we was just how beautifully the outside and inside was decorated. There were decorations all around the outside both in the lawn and on the buildings. The main building has a wrap around deck. You walk up the stairs onto the deck and then in one door which could be a waiting area that really is inviting. Then the next door has a small seating area for waiting on the left and on the right is the hostess area. Looking straight ahead is an open area that is open. There is also seating around the corner to the left straight ahead. To the right past the hostess station is the baked goodies and boy do they all look delicious! There is also seating upstairs and a cute little store. I went to check in and didn't happen the first time, in fact the guy that was standing there said he was not worried about me getting on the wait list only about everyone knowing that they were serving lunch at that point not breakfast. Not an ideal way to address the request. I then mentioned the list again and the young lady added me. We had been speaking with Tracy about our travel and calling ahead and she was so kind and helpful and told us about the history and I hope I am not incorrect when I say she said the restaurant has been open 17 years. (I can certainly see why!) When our table was ready she was quick to say we were not getting that table as my hubby is a little on the bigger side and she wanted us to really enjoy our experience as it was our first. We were seated upstairs at a table in a perfect spot. Our server was Bella and she truly had such a great attitude and was very knowledgeable. Her whole demeanor was kind and attentive. We ordered the Eggs Benedict with wedge fries, the Farmhouse Special with wedge fries and grilled Italian bread and the Cinnamon French Toast to-go. We also ordered a large cookie for my daughter in which Bella packed so nicely. The ham on the eggs benedict was so tender and tasteful. The sausage was cooked to perfection and the garlic bread was a perfect touch. The cinnamon French toast must have been delicious as well as it was gone before we got home. We didn't get utensils, but my girl just ripped and Dipped lol. Almost inhaling. I asked what the owners name was because she did allow us to order from the breakfast menu, she was genuinely kind and very handsome on with her business. Most of all I mentioned to one of the staff she seemed like a good owner to work for and without hesitation she agreed and said that Tracy is very good to her staff. That alone speaks volumes. My wife, my brother-in-law, and I were in Wisconsin over the weekend for a wedding and we had the gingerbread house just down the street from us, which made mornings a lot better so we could focus on preparation for the wedding. The cute, cozy, Wisconsin vibes, met with a dash of quirky. Coffee shop was absolutely delightful. I love the ambience, the friendly staff, and the options. The gingerbread house offers a wide variety of baked goods, breakfast, dishes, coffee, and tea. I think I even saw some Christmas themed gifts there which was pretty cute. Although I didn't get to try any of the baked goods, on one of our visits, we got some baked goods for the wedding party during preparation and everybody said they were really good. I had a couple of cups of Earl Grey tea, which was delightful. Not sure if it's a house blender a brand, but it was really good and I've never had it before. Our server was wonderful. A guy, probably late 20s or early 30s, short hair and a beard. I think his name might've been Jesse, but I could be wrong. He was absolutely wonderful to work with, very patient, courteous, and seemed like he's taken care of pretty well at his job. Met a coworker after work on Friday at about 2:30pm. Reservations were not made however the place was starting to get busy. We both opted to sit outside even though staff generously offered a warning about bees. As it turned out the bees were NOT a problem at all. Both myself and my coworker ordered a fish fry. I opted for the Italian cod she opted for regular cod. The sides were generous with a choice of potato pancakes or potato wedges. The food was very good. The portions were generous and cooked incredibly well. The seasoning in the fish was adequate without being overdone. Confusing set up. Place is really cute, but to my surprise it's full service dining or drive through. All we wanted was a coffee drink and possibly a dessert eating-in, but the requirement was to 'wait to be seated' with a server no matter what. Oddly too, they serve dinner, but close at 6pm. Yes, it's cute. Yes, it's not just a restaurant; it's a destination. Yes, the servers are great. Blah blah blah. We need to talk about that grouper!! Macadamia Nut Grouper, to be exact. "Wild grouper filet crusted in macadamia nut crumb, herbs, lavender, and orange peel." You have no idea how underwhelming that sounds compared to how overwhelmingly delicious that fish was. First A+ goes to the generous size of the filet. Second A+ goes to the judicious use of lavender. If misused, you're eating your grandma's talcum powder, but here, chef knows what they're doing. A+ to the combination used in the crust. It's pure culinary genius. The hericot verts were grand, nicely seasoned and cooked to a delightful tender crispness. Roasted fingerling potatoes, also nicely seasoned, rounded out the plate, making this offering a ten out of ten. Just a brilliant meal! My only complaint involves some of the seating. It's one thing to make sure tables are being turned over quickly, but it's another to make sure that happens by forcing adults in the 2020s to sit on ice cream parlor chairs made for 1920s bottoms. I weigh 115 lbs., and I was quite uncomfortable. Imagine a big man! That said, there are picnic-table benches, stools, and normal restaurant chairs among other seating options. read more

This place is usually very busy during brunch. We arrived around 10:15 on a Sunday morning and was able to find a parking spot. What I like about this place is the cute decorations and ambience. Inside the restaurant it gets very loud so if you don't like loud places this would not be a good place for you. I've only gotten coffee here and never have eaten food other than baked goods. This time I ordered the farmers omelette and would say it was okay and would not order again. This place is pretty pricey and I would personally stick to the baked goods and the coffee. I ordered three omelette dishes, three lattes, one coffee and two donuts which came up to $98 with tip. Also the water comes in a bottled water for $2 each. In summary this place is great to meet up with friends or family and enjoy some tasty baked goods and a hot beverage. The decorations are so cute and the staff are very friendly. read more

My wife went in and ordered her latte and pastry. She came out and I went in to order my cuppachino. The plan was to grab the items at the counter and eat them outside. The owner interjected and said they are full service and that we would need to be served outside. I suggested we would take the items to go and she was not OK with this and we needed to be served outside. Her policy and she's the owner. A major turnoff as explanations go. What an adorable place! We were greeted by a chicken on the porch too. Walked in up to the counter to order some coffee and donuts to go. The cake donuts were 4th of July themed and the icing on them wasn't overly sweet! Half a donut was more than enough though. They also have a drive through, which we didn't notice but it was nice to go inside and check out the place. They have cakes which are decorated amazingly! We were seated right away, and for a Sunday morning, that already felt like a win! This place definitely had a unique set-up with the seating and good for sale all together. There is upstairs seating, which is where we sat, but no elevator, so just keep that in mind! If you need an elevator, they do have 1st floor seating, too! We ordered the country fried steak, eggs Benedict, and left with a donut to share. Everything was made quickly, and the dishes were very tasty! Problem was, i got the most Italian looking polish sausage I've ever seen or tasted. Not what I expected. Wedges were good. The English muffin was grilled and smashed also, probably their style but I'm not sure why anyone would want to do that to an English muffin, the fluffy crevices and pockets used for collecting the butter and jam didn't exist...strange. Since we're choosing not to dine in right now, we opted for Gingerbread's drive thru in real time. If you can plan ahead, do put your order in ahead of time, but the cheery helpful window service got our order in, and apologized for a 15-20 minute wait. No need to apologize! We were only to happy to sit and wait on the gorgeously decorated Country Christmas porch, and set a spell. Order was delivered promptly and cheerfully- and the food was outstanding! Get a crock of chili. Like, now! It was good, guys! My chicken salad melt was the bomb, and came with a side salad of greens with homemade vinaigrette. I have been here twice and loved it both times! First thing to know, this place is busy. Unless you're the first people here right when they open, be prepared for at least a 15 minute wait. The wait is worth it. There is a cute 2nd level with a bar and a shop with cute items for sale. The tables all look to be a variety of kitchen tables. The only downside I can think of to this place is that the tables are a bit close together in some spots but I can overlook that. I love their breakfast wedge potatoes. They are cooked just right and seasoned perfectly. On the off chance that you have leftovers, they reheat well! If you like eggs Benedict, I recommend theirs! Their beautiful display of pastries in the the bakery counter are very tempting. I enjoyed a raspberry danish during my last visit.
