While visiting Knoxville, TN, my friends were craving a seafood boil, so we ended up at Storming Crab--and I'm so glad we did! The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating, and I believe there's also a bar area. We were seated right away, which was a great start. Their menu has a little bit of everything, from appetizers and gumbo to customizable seafood boils with different seasoning and spice options. Before our meal, they brought out their cheesy crab bread, and unfortunately I didn't snap a picture because we all devoured it within minutes. It was that good! I ordered a half pound of crawfish, a half pound of snow crab legs, and a lobster tail with the Cajun seasoning, "Make It Hot." Everything was delicious! The snow crab legs were packed with flavor, and I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the lobster tail--it was incredibly meaty, buttery, and cooked perfectly. The boil also came with sausage, corn, and potatoes, making it a hearty meal. I also have to give a shoutout to our server, Amanda. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. She checked on us often, cleared the table as we finished, and gave great recommendations when we had questions about the menu. I ordered 1lb of snow crab legs and added 1/2 lb of shrimps. It definitely felt like it had more crabs. Came here to eat dinner with family on UT graduation weekend. When we arrived, there were about 60 or more people waiting outside. Hostess quoted 30 minute wait time for a table of 8. The bar was mostly empty so we took a seat and ordered adult beverages while we waited. In 30 minutes, our pager went off. We settled our tab and were promptly seated at a nice booth. Our order was taken right away, and the server was a real pro. We had a few special requests, and she had no issues. The food arrived very quickly. Everything was as ordered and freshly made. All of the items were delicious and satisfying. I recommend the Seafood Bread and Fried Oysters. The Boudin Balls were tasty as well. The atmosphere was lively and very welcoming. Lots of graffiti scribbled on the walls from past guests. We asked for a marker to make our addition to the decor. Went for lunch with my family. Parking lot smells great when you pull up. The inside is fun atmosphere. Writing all over the walks from previous guests. Our server Sean was great. My husband and I have been here many times and we've loved it each time. Today, on Mother's Day, my husband wasn't feeling great so my ten year old son "brought" me for Mother's Day. It was more packed than I had ever seen (I'm guessing due to the holiday). We got there and were told 35-45 minutes and given a beeper. We went to sit in the car since there wasn't really anywhere else to sit. Working five minutes of getting to the car the beeper went off so we shut the car off, got out, locked it and went through parking to the front hostess area. They looked at the beeper and the list and told us they made a mistake so back to the car we went. About 30 minutes later the beeper went off and we were seated near the bar in the last booth by where everyone goes in and out of the bar. Or waited came out and took our drink order and my son had noticed the shark bite cocktail so we asked if they could make a virgin drink. It was horrible. So sweet he couldn't drink it at all. I tried it and agreed. It tasted like a slightly tart sugar water. We didn't complain because we did ask for the drink. Then we ordered our meals. My son got the Gator plate with fries which was perfect and he loves. I ordered 1 1/2 lbs of snow crab legs in a garlic butter sauce (which amounts to 3 clusters). It came with three sides since I ordered an extra half pound. Potatoes, corn and sausage. The seafood bread was amazing! If you go make sure to try it!!! Our meals were brought out. As I mentioned my sons was perfect. I noticed mine wasn't as hot as usual and figured as busy as they were it sat for a bit longer before being brought to the table. I've been eating crab all my life so I'm not new to how to eat it or remove the shells to get to the meat. As I carefully tried to snap the shells, they weren't breaking as they should and there was no getting any meat at all from the first two smaller sections. In the larger sections they wouldn't crack. Tried to use the metal crackers but it just squished it. I used the plastic tool which didn't work ands then used the metal fork. The meat wouldn't come out. It was completely stuck to the inside of the shell where I had to scrape it out with my fingernails. The claws were just add bad. I still kept trying while waiting on the waitress. When she got there I asked how they were cooked and she told me boiled in extremely hot water with fire. I told her what was going on so she went and got gloves and started trying to break my crab open. She wasn't able to get them out either so she went and told the manager. By that time I was done messing with them. He came over and I again explained what was going on. He offered me more cream or a discount. I should've taken the crab and brought them home but I chose the discount. I bagged up the two clusters to bring home to attempt to finish cooking them in hopes they'd be edible. When I got the bill, $7.00 was talked off for over $55 of crab. I felt extremely insulted. That didn't even cover my son's horrible drink but was supposed to make my Mother's Day meal better? We really loved this place but now I don't know if I'll go back. I'm not one of those people that complains all the time. I'm pretty sure if my husband was with me we wouldn't have gotten treated like that. Just an update, I steamed the legs and they came out perfect! I wish I had brought the rest home and just did it myself but since I paid for cooked crab legs I figured that's what I was going to get. read more

We went here on a whim and had a great time! The amount of food you get is large, which is nice. (We had 3 lbs and ended up taking a bit home). The market prices are all on a chalk board so it's easy to see how much they cost. We got the #4 for $67 on 3.10.25. Pros: 1) Fun and a lot of food 2) Seafood bread was awesome 3) It's a fun experience with a good atmosphere 4) The diet coke is good here Considerations: 1) As others have said, service is pretty slow. If you need new gloves, more water, the check- be prepared to exert some patience 2) The sauce is good but has a very strong artificial butter taste. I've been here a few times and I find it mediocre at best. I end up coming with friends and it's alright but there are not many choices for a fish boil locally. The first issue is when you arrive, if it's spring summer or fall, you get hit with the worst rotting fish smell from the dumpster in the parking lot. It hits you worse than a rotting carcass in the summer heat on the coast. The food itself is fine, a bit uninspired. Everything is steamed with a dash or two of bay seasoning. Brought to you in what taste like artificial butter - they could use real butter - but it tastes more akin to a theater butter sauce. For the different heat levels I think they just add a bit of cayenne pepper and maybe a dash of Frank's? The potatoes and corn taste and have a consistency that they've been prepping in an oven for many hours. The sausage is mediocre. Honestly it's hard to mess up crab, scallops, or fish because they are all flash frozen unless you can get them live caught off a boat and that's not happening here in Knox. So far every clam I've tried has been good, albeit small, and clams need to be alive when they're cooked or they will not open up. So I give them that - they store their ingredients well enough. I find the shtick of everyone writing on the wall to be funny some of the time but crude as well. I don't know it is what it is. It's their thing so go wright on the wall if that's what you wanna do, but that's not why I'm giving this place a 3/5 stars. Let's be honest, seafood is getting very expensive - this place is on the high-end of affordability for seafood, but it's just not great. Service is always been less than desirable. Attentiveness is not there most of the time and servers following up on your table is lacking. Honestly the best seafood boil I've ever had. Got the number 4 which is 1lb of each Snow crab legs, head off shrimp and crawfish. Service was average. Shrimp was very good and crawling were good crab tasted good but was a little short on the meat. I did the garlic butter with the Old bay and Cajun seasoning medium heat and it was phenomenal. Added 4 boiled eggs as well. I ate all of it myself so kinda expensive but very good. Lol my total was $85 before tip. Building was very nice but bathrooms were disgusting. read more

We visited Storming Crab because we like seafood and they've got it. We ordered the fried clams and seafood bread. The bread was delicious. Super buttery and unhealthy I'm sure, but delicious nonetheless. We (my husband and I) ordered the #3 to share and my mother in law and our friend ordered the same thing with less spice. The trays look huge when you get them and you have to work for your food. I liked the lobster tail best from our tray. The crawfish is kind of a lot of work for the small amount of meat that you get. Next time I think I would get scallops or shrimp with my lobster instead of crawfish. This place is expensive as legit seafood always is. (Market price so the prices change depending on how much it is for them.) Overall, it was fun to go and eat. The kids thought it was hilarious that we were inexperienced peeling crawfish. The kids had mozzarella cheese sticks and it came with fries but they didn't eat them. I would give them a solid 4 stars. The food was good and we were seated quickly. read more

I'm from Florida and I know good seafood. I was really I was really skeptical about trying this restaurant. However my husband was craving seafood today so we decided to give it a shot even though we have not found good seafood since we've moved to Tennessee. We walk up to the door the entire outside of the building is graffitied with writing all over it and I'm thinking how tacky. Then we go inside and it's completely ceiling to floor wall to wall with writing on pretty much everything that is nailed down or not. I don't get it. I think the writing all over it cheapens the restaurant. Then we get seated by The unfriendliest Host imaginable at a booth that was also graffitied with scary pictures which I thought was inappropriate for my 5-year-old. After all that you must be wondering why on Earth this place is getting five stars? I will have to tell you because our server was fantastic even though I thought it was hilarious that he didn't like seafood even though he worked in a seafood restaurant. He took the time to explain the menu and asked us questions very personable. We decided to build our own meal with king crab, crawfish and shrimp. I was pleasantly surprised and how delicious the food was you get a giant bowl that's big enough for at least four people to share because it also comes with corn sausage and potatoes. Reason number two why it's getting five stars. I will highly recommend this place. I will have to warn you the price is not cheap. I'm actually surprised how expensive it was with the atmosphere being so graffitied and tacky.
