The ceiling is dripping, the soda fountain is broken, it smells like wet dog, the chips taste rancid, and you're probably taking your life into your hands with the open air salsa bar... But hey $2 frozen margaritas if you're craving and adult slurpee. Worth it! (?)

Great food for being fast food. Same as taco bell but upgraded. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They do go above and beyond l. Every time I go the dinning room is not busy and there is plenty of Seats.

That's everything that came on the taco there in the fork

This is truly a terrible experience. Here's a Yelp review that captures the frustration and details of your encounter: "Absolutely the WORST Taco Cabana experience imaginable. I've had issues with this location's order accuracy, so I placed an online order with meticulous modifiers, scheduling it for pickup 15 minutes later. I arrived roughly 12 minutes after ordering, expecting a smooth pickup. Upon entering, the lobby was deserted, save for one person finishing their meal. The drive-thru was empty. Yet, it took several minutes for the staff to even acknowledge my presence. When I finally said, "Excuse me, I have an order for..." before I could finish, the employee snapped, "Didn't get no orders," and vanished. She reappeared minutes later, walked past me without a word, and disappeared again towards the to-go window. Seven minutes later, she tossed a seemingly empty brown bag on the counter, glanced at me, and turned away. I said "thank you" and received no response. I proceeded to ask for a water cup and the restroom code. She bluntly said, "No." When I asked if there was a plumbing issue, she replied, "No, you can't have it." After explaining I had just placed an order and requesting to use the restroom, she begrudgingly gave me the code (1280). Returning to my table, I inspected my order. It was beyond underwhelming. My simple order--a flower tortilla, water, and 1oz each of Fuego, Pico de Gallo, and Ranch salsas--was a complete disaster. Not a single salsa was included. The taco itself contained a mere teaspoon of filling, roughly an ounce of chorizo and other ingredients, making up 85% tortilla and 15% filling. I'm a chef, so I know the difference between a teaspoon and tablespoon. In short, I received an empty burrito, an empty bag (no salsas), and was subjected to outright harassment from the staff. This location is a disgrace. I will never return and strongly advise others to avoid it. The customer service is non-existent, and the food is a joke." Won't be returning to this location, however I was certainly blast on full speed on every social media platform local forums word of mouth and beyond. I haven't left a negative review in I don't know how long...

watery beans and guac i didnt order

they never ever follow directions and never answer the phone i order teo sides of rice and no guac every time and they dont follow directions.... i love the food but hate how often they completely ignore your order instructions

The food was amazing service was kind and fast. Ambiance nice and clean. My granddaughter enjoyed her kids taco combo. Just enough for her big appetite

No salsa bar due to Covid fears.

Geeez, it's been a year since my last review and the fresh salsa bar is still closed. On this visit I asked for beef fajita tacos, but instead I got two ground beef tacos. In other words, they got the order wrong So why do I keep punishing myself by coming here? The same reason as last time, I had a gift card that I needed to spend. At least this time they withheld the guacamole and I did get two small containers of salsa, but I had to ask for the jalapeños. Unfortunately, I still have money left on this gift card which means I have a future date with more of the same.

    Uncooked enchiladas.

Friendly older woman at the drive thru only saving grace. Decided to come in after ordering thru the drive thru. She put napkins and plastic utensils and salsa. Food was hot. That's where the good stops. Ingredients although fresh were NOT cooked. I opened an enchilada on a plate and was freshly sprinkled and not even melted. Could see it was small shredded cheese. Rice was old, some were hard and stuck together almost unable to chew. If I could give a zero I would. This is a restaurant I will never return to. I can get half decent quick Mexican at places like Taco Palenque or such. It had been raining, the whole restaurant leaks esp the restroom- surprised it wasn't shut down. Someone came in while I was in there to "inspect" wasn't pleasant.

Chorizo and egg taco with no chorizo... stale flamin hot taco.. trash

I don't know what is going on with Taco Cabana's quality especially at this location... when I order a chorizo and egg taco, it would be nice if there was chorizo on it... are yall rationing? The desire for customer satisfaction must be lower than profit margin goals... also I tried the flamin hot taco..... mistake. The Cheetos were stale!!!! How do you allow this garbage to leave your restaurant?!

We just left the drive thru and the girl working was so patient. We had made a mistake in ordering the combo instead of the fajita plate. She made it right and did it with a smile. I didn't catch her name but she had nice long eyelashes. I'm sure she will remember us when she looks at the pictures. Who ever she is I'd like to say thank you!

These are the salsa cups as served. I forgot that I had ordered 2 tablespoons of it split unevenly between 2 cups. Silly me.

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average

Also on my friends second drink remembered she didn't want salt or her rim without even asking - Everything tasted so fresh and high quality - Brisket tacos: packed with flavor--maybe it was the wagyu meat or the black magic oil. THAT PLACE IS THE BEST". Located off Mopac and Anderson in North Central Austin, this beloved tex-mex restaurant is situated in a relatively aged shopping strip less than half a mile from the highway. Parking is ample and available so there should be no issues with access getting to the restaurant. Although easy to get to, it's a whole different story getting into the restaurant. First and foremost, they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Secondly, they are so popular that you should almost always expect a wait. The pro move here is to book a reservation, but if you don't have one - anticipate waiting anywhere between 30 - 90 minutes in order to get in. Once in, you have the option to pick from a variety of tex-mex cuisine, including some local house specials such as the "crunchwrap supreme" which has an interesting backlore related to Taco Bell. Free chips and salsa (choose up to two salsas to try) land as soon as you arrive. El Dorado is known for its vegan tex-mex offerings so those with more particular diets will certainly be able to find something that works. The salsas are tasty. The serving portions are large. The flavors are good - there's really not too much to complain about once you're in and seated.
