I've been a loyal Taco Casa customer for 45 years. Although I no longer live in Tuscaloosa, whenever I'm in town, I make it a point to stop by Taco Casa. This day was no exception. I swung by the Skyland Blvd to purchase food in bulk to take home. Unfortunately, this visit was extremely disappointing. I ordered 6 beef burritos, 6 enchiladas, and 2 crunchy tacos and waited over 30 minutes for my food. For a $60 order, I expected much better quality and attention to detail. The enchiladas had very little cheese inside and were burned, as if they had been microwaved too long. The burritos were poorly filled with very little beef, making them dry and lacking flavor. They also did not make them extra hot as I specifically requested, which made them even more disappointing. It's frustrating to spend that much money on food that clearly lacked care in preparation. I have always looked forward to stopping here when I'm in town, but this experience truly let me down. I hope management takes quality control and customer loyalty more seriously moving forward. read more

Taco Casa is a sentimental favorite for me. Growing up near Tuscaloosa and going to college, meeting my wife....all of those things come to mind when I have my go-to chicken burritos with extra hot sauce. The big cactus is also my Iron Bowl gameday tradition! Love em! read more

We have had 2 horrific incidents at this location. I have been a loyal customer for the last 50 years. The latest incident occurred last night with a rude and threatening drive thru employee. The Taco Burger is not a burger. It is the taco ground beef and ingredients placed on a bun. You may as well order a soft taco instead. It tasted ok but I was expecting a taco-seasoned burger patty topped with taco ingredients. The unsweetened tea was good. The service was just ok overall. I do not plan to return here. I will visit a regular Mexican restaurant instead. Ambiance is like mcdonalds. read more

Very Slow customer service and not very friendly. 15 plus minutes for a to go order. Bathroom was okay on the cleanliness. Don't stop here if you are in a hurry. The food was meh and very thin and not much to a burrito. Chips were stale. Hard pass on stopping here in the future. read more

My experience with Taco Casa is probably only worthy of 2.5 stars, but given that I visited late in the evening right after a huge Bama football victory while they were swamped, I'll give the benefit of the doubt. It's also worth taking into consideration what they are - an Americanized, fast food taco joint. I can't speak to the interior of the place, as we went through the drive through. The wait was pretty long - maybe 15 minutes. We knew what we were getting into, though, as there were probably 6 cars ahead of us. Faster would've been better, but it was understandable. The gentleman who took our order and gave us our food was pleasant and our order was accurate. About as much as you can ask for there. I got the combo number 1 (taco, enchilada, rice and beans, and chips) and the beefy queso nachos in case I didn't like the combo. The taco was okay. It was a little cold by the time I got it home, and there was too much lettuce, but the beef was flavorful enough and the shell stayed crunchy. The rice and beans were actually surprisingly good. They were probably the best part of the combo. That enchilada was an abomination, honestly. It was covered in that kinda nasty yellow cheddar cheese like you'd put on gas station nachos. A shame, because again, the beef inside was alright. Cover it in queso and it might be a different story. But that artificial cheddar...I couldn't eat it, and neither could my boyfriend. The beefy queso nachos were the best part. Lots of extra salty chips with a cup of queso to dip or pour over them. I was expecting the beef to be on top of the nachos, but it was in the queso. Good to keep the chips crispy on the ride home, but not a whole lot of beef for what you're paying for. Overall, if I go again, I'll get the beefy queso nachos again, or some kind of combo that doesn't involve an enchilada. read more

I have gone to Taco Casa for over 20 years, however the quality and service have really deteriorated in the past few years. Tonight, most of the food was cold and stale and the staff elected to lock the doors at 7:15pm with a half full dining room and with a family outside trying to get dinner. This spot is so good, the Taco Burger is where it's at. The burritos are good (go hit Taco Bell next door for a burrito, these are ok) , but forget that. I do think the beans and rice are way better, taco casa should really just well one thing. Get a taco burger with extra cheese, hot sauce and don't forget a sweet tea, the sweet Tea is perfect. I didn't try anything else on the menu, just do it. A taco a burger is a throw back to the old Taco Bell "Bell Beefer" if you're old enough to remember them. A nice soft bun, ground beef, cheese and a little lettuce and tomato. Perfection. They nailed it! If the line seems long (4-5 cars) don't worry, it moves fast and seems to be a local favorite. To finalize this spot, it's good trashy American Mexican food, the Taco a burger is not some authentic Mexican dish, it's a taco on a bun. I have a love/hate relationship with Taco Casa. I love their cheese sauce, but I don't care for their hot or mild sauce. They have great tacos (without sauce), but their chili isn't that great. I usually get their Combo #1 and a taco burger. It's definitely fast food and they don't try to be anything else. The dining room is dated and bland, but clean. The staff are not always attentive, but good help is hard to find. Price is a little higher than the quality, but not too bad. read more

Taco Casa! This place was quite delightful, workers were friendly and extremely quick. I had never heard of a "Taco Pizza" so of course I had to test it and let me tell you what. It did not steer me wrong, it was very flavorful! I got all of my tacos "Extra Hot" and I was loving them. I even got myself a shirt so I wouldn't forget my wonderful experience. I am sadden you have changed the chimalupas shells, they are terrible. I have been going to Taco Casa for over 40 years.

They always close 30-40 minutes early and me having to work until 9 or sometimes 10. They said they were closed but no the employees just wanted to fool around outside instead of doing their actual job. I would like to go to a place I where I love the food but they are always closed early so they don't have to do any work. You can call me a food snob if you so choose, but I was thoroughly disgusted by this place. I was passing through Alabama on a road trip and took a chance on Taco Casa since there is a similar concept in my home state of Texas. I thought the two were some what similar. I was wrong. I ordered 2 combination burritos and nachos. First the nacho cheese sauce was bland and the chips were fried in old oil. The burritos were not bigger than tacos I get in TX and you could tell that they had been microwaved. The burritos had an odd texture and no taste. There's a reason that the Taco Casa is surviving with a Taco Bell right next door, they are Awesome!! If you are ever in Tuscaloosa, AL this is the place to get a quick fix of fast food mexican. The hard tacos may be difficult to eat in a car because of the sauce they use, but they are delicious. Also, when ordering the Beefy nachos be aware that the beef comes in the cheese sauce. I was not aware of this until I dipped the first chip into the dip and then I was pleasantly surprised. Taco casa is a Tuscaloosa delicacy. It's not for everyone. Most of my family hates it, but I love it. I ate it once and could never stop craving it. The cheese sauce with a pepper cup and chips is my favorite side to get. Combo #4 with chicken is my go-to, but their sanchos are pretty good. Great for taco night or for a night you don't want to cook. Some of the best sweet tea around. read more

Let me just say, whenever I am in Tuscaloosa I stop at one of the Taco Casa's. After living in T-Town and having this as a wonderful alternative to Taco Bell, I miss it!!! Everytime I'm in Tuscaloosa I eat at a Taco Casa before I leave town. If you're not used to the menu you might need a little help with some of the items. Everything I've ever eaten here has been great. Also, don't leave without getting some sopapillas. This is a great alternative to Taco Bell if you're looking for fast mexican food. read more

This is not the same Taco Casa as is found in Texas so don't be mislead. They do have while a few items to choose from. We all got nachos. They were good but not very hot and not many options for dressing them up. There isn't any sauce counter available so if you want them to be spicy hot then you have to ask. The people were quite nice and we didn't wait long for our food. Once the food arrived things quickly took a turn for the worst. this location has gone so far down in the past year it's embarrassing to me when I hear their advertisement for the awards they have won for Tuscaloosa's best restaurants list. It was obviously a different location that won these so called awards. This place is absolutely ridiculous. 20 min wait in the drive through has become an expected annoyance ( just because I think the quality in better than taco bell) but more and more frequently the order is wrong, the food is cold and just not worth the wait for a major disappointment in the end. It blows my mind that I can go to taco bell select an item from what seems to me to be at least 4 times the offerings at taco casa and in less than 5 min I'm eating my food, hot and what I ordered. Seems to me that a limited menu like that at taco casa could be executed at least half as well. with that being said I do recognize the difference in the food quality the delivery has little to be desired. This problem has gone on for too long and I just have been disappointed to the level that I felt I must say something to someone I have spent my adult life in the restaurant business and it is very obvious that that upper management needs to spend more time at this location.
