I went to Taco Don's for the first time tonight. I've always heard how great it was. It was hands down the worst Mexican food that I've ever had. I had the chicken burrito enchilada style with rice and beans. None of it had absolutely any flavor. The chicken was plentiful, but tasted like it had been boiled in water with no spices for flavoring. The enchilada sauce was watery. I threw over half of it away after rescuing the chicken out of the burrito for my dog. The only thing good was the salsa which had a very nice heat to it. read more

Food was tasty but bland. Even their 'hot' sauce offered no detectable heat. It was good, and I'll probably go back some day, just not what I've come to expect from Mexican food. One other thing that kind of bugged me was the taxes they charged. My meal cost was $7.99. The receipt showed an "M-TAX" item of $0.50 and a separate "TAX1" item of $0.75. This place is the only drive thru mexican food place that I have found in Prescott, AZ. It doesn't stay open late but it is very convenient when you can get to it during the day. The Chorizo and Machaca breakfast burritos are fantastic. You can order them at anytime during the day. The prices are reasonable and the burritos are a good size. If you are looking for a good carne asada burrito here, that's all you are really going to find. It's not all that great, but not bad, just ok. I am from San Diego and the mexican food kicks ass there, so for Prescott, this is where I go to get breakfast burritos that taste like home. Food is not super fast here. This is a busy little order at the counter spot that is casual in terms of atmosphere and price. I would describe the food as tex-mex, and overall I liked the food. I ordered the street tacos, which were tasty and rice and beans, which is usually my favorite part of any meal at a Mexican restaurant. Unfortunately, I thought the beans tasted like they came straight out of a can, with no additional seasoning. Our favorite part of the meal was probably the chips and salsa, which I would definitely recommend adding to any meal. The counter services was very friendly. This is a decent lunch spot in Prescott. Taco Don's: Good Food, Good People, and Good Prices During my first visit to the US four years ago, my husband took me to his favorite restaurant, Taco Don's, which is in Prescott at 624 Miller Valley Road. Taco Don's serves traditional Mexican cuisine. Mexican cuisine, like the Mexican culture, is bright, authentic, and unforgettable. Therefore, we have become regular customers of this lovely restaurant. Taco Don's is a wonderful experien filled with fragrant dishes that will not leave you hungry. Taco Don's does not have the best decor, and it looks like a typical fast food country restaurant. When it is hot outside, inside the air conditioners works and the place is always a comfortable temperature. The facade windows are large; they allow the room to be light. The building is spacious and clean, and there are always customers there. There is parking at the entrance, and it is always available. Also in Taco Don's, there is a convenient drive-thru window on the north side where you can order food without leaving the car. When you go into this dining room, you see the smiling staff that starts to greet you. You can order food and pay by cash or card at the front counter. There is a multicolored menu on the wall on the left. After that, you can expect it at your chosen place. Inside the dining room are sturdy tables and comfortable bench seats. The seats, which are covered with durable and elastic black material, have soft foam rubber within that allows you to relax and enjoy your meal. Taco Don's offers both vegetarian and traditional meat dishes. The corn, beans, rice, chili, and cheese are foundations in many recipes of this restaurant. They have a good menu of traditional Mexican dishes that are delicious, spicy, and well-portioned, and affordable prices. Any food product ordered in Taco Don's is skillfully prepared and has an attractive appearance, served hot. All of their food is made from fresh ingredients. When cooking, you can hear the cheery songs of the chef and staff. Often the chef comes to you and asks about your ordered dish and listens to your opinion. All meals are cooked to your taste, which is why I fell in love with this unique Mexican restaurant. I was here a year ago and thought I'd see if it was really that boring of a menu. I was hungry last time here and didn't care what I ate just wanted food. Yes the food is that boring. A step above Del Taco if you ask me. I asked for simple things like a lime for my beer and had to wait for them to cut them up. I got one slice. Had to ask for more since I had ordered two soft corn carne asada tacos. I asked for chilies like serranos which I love. Blank stare. The owner, I think, was taking my order. He said he had jalapeno. Ok I'll take that. Then he asked if I wanted it deep fried. Huh? No! I just want it chopped up for my tacos. Oh you should try it. Me;: I don't eat fried food. It's hard to decide where to start.....to say it was a disappointment is not even close. They charge a 50 cent charge to use your credit card even when you spend $30 on food, but they don't tell you this. They also charge $1.50 each to add rice and beans to your meal, yes $3.00 for what is about 4 bites of each. Even after repeating our order three times face to face at the counter they got the order all wrong. When I asked to speak to the manager a girl working there pretended to be the manager......when I called about the order being wrong and the other surprise we got I found out she was not the manager. When I asked who the manager was and when he would be in I was told he might be in Monday afternoon. At this point you might be wondering what our surprise was, it was a lovely ground beef taco that I had paid a dollar extra to have made shredded beef but did not get and IT WAS RAW!!!!! No, not a little but wet red falling apart raw. I asked the girl who had been pretending to be the manager, and by the way she did not even offer to replace the raw taco, to have the manager call me. After several attempts to give her my phone number and having her repeat a jumble of too many numbers to even be a phone number back to me I doubt that he will call me. Me on the other hand I will be there on Monday at lunch time to share my raw taco with their customers and I will be calling the health dept as well. Save yourself and forget about eating in Prescott Arizona. This is the norm here....over priced, awful food and bad service. read more

Oh boy, I have been here twice and my first experience was incredible, and that's what brought me back. Unfortunately my second experience was not so good; I had called in an order because I wasn't feeling well and I just wanted something to fill me up, so I was going to order what I usually order at a taco shop/ Mexican restaurant: Carne asada burrito, stuffed with 2 rolled tacos (aka taquitos) and have the whole thing wrapped in a cheese quesadilla. The first time I went there it wasn't an issue at all and the girl taking my order was even impressed. When I had called in my order this time I was denied my request and when i had informed the girl over the phone that they had made this order for me before she came back to me with " We can't do it right now because we are in our lunch rush." That's a really bad excuse to give someone, especially a customer who wouldn't have a problem paying any amount for the order. Too be honest I've worked in the food industry for close to 6 years, my mom owns a deli in San Diego that I spent a whole year working in, and I held almost every position in the food industry from dishwasher to floor manager. Not once would you catch me saying to a customer that I can't fulfill their request on the account that we were too busy. If one of my staff would have told a customer over the phone that we couldn't fill their request, they would be instantly reprimanded for 1. not checking with me, and 2. for denied a customer their wants. Restaurants are a customer service based industry, and in my book the customer is always right, and if they are paying money to be fed, then they should be fed to their standards. I honestly don't think my request was too extreme for a busy kitchen because well it's a freaking kitchen. The worst part about the whole thing was that when my girl friend and I went to go pick up the order there was a zero line; Yes, the tables were busy, but it wouldn't have and shouldn't have been a problem. I'm glad that Taco Don's is a busy place, that means they serve good food, I just wish I could say the same for the service. I will say that I have no problems going back to this establishment, I just hope to be better served, and to have my requests fulfilled. We've been going to Taco Don's for a long time; food is good and at reasonable prices. But this past year, on different occasions, we've been served by a couple of employees (been there for a long time) who are quite rude especially when taking orders; noticeably more so when the boss/owner is not around. Other reviewers have said the same thing. If they don't like serving the public, they should leave and find some other work they can enjoy! The restaurant can use some updating/repairs. read more

I went in with expectations of mom and pop fresh authentic Mexican, and was disappointed. I love authentic tacos, but I knew there was trouble when I saw cheddar cheese on top of my two carne Asada tacos. Carne Asada unfortunately had a slimy quality to it and the tortillas were dripping with oil, yet could pass for un cooked. The flavor was lacking, all in all I couldn't stomach eating my second one. If you like real tacos, their 'street taco' that my brother ordered looks closer to the real thing. We also ordered chips, salsa, and guac. Chips and salsa came out immediately but we waited over 10 minutes for the guac, finally going up to ask for it because our chips were almost gone. Then they charge you for a chip refill, which would be less annoying if the guac and chips had arrived at the same time. Quac didn't taste like they had seasoned it at all, and was made with over ripe avocados. Mild salsa is good, hot is very thin and more of a mild heat. If you're an avo fan then you know what I mean, you can taste when they start to go bad. Horchata was fairly good, I was happy to find it didn't taste like a mix. I guess I must be spoiled with great authentic Mexican at home, I thought for sure I'd have good luck while visiting AZ! read more
