Been twice and both times not good. Breakfast burrito had a raw taste, and more tortilla than filling. Mexican pizza was basically toppings on a flour tortilla and then baked. Chips/salsa extra and a side of salsa for the burrito, 75 cents extra. Employees weren't friendly. read more

Went here today and the food was so hot you couldn't even pick the taco up for several minutes. Also, the rice was nice and fluffy but it was bland like most of the other foods. The ground beef had no seasoning. Then to top it off, within an hour, my husband and I were both sick. They must use MSG in their food. No matter what you do you can never get any salsa even if you are paying for it. They used to give 2 tiny salsas with each meal, now only one. My job ordered breakfast burritos from this place for a team meeting one morning and I was surprised by how good these were! They came in highly recommended from everyone at the office. They have different styles of burritos and you can customize anyway that you want. I got the ham and cheese one and it was pretty good. Unfortunately something's amiss. The last two times we've ordered from here, even as early as 5:15 pm they have had no chips and no chili rellenos. We've never had this issue over the past dozen years we've been eating there. Hopefully they get some competent management in there soon or we're going to have to look elsewhere. read more

I normally love taco dons but they did a real bad job today. I ordered a shredded beef taco for my dad and noticed it wasn't wrapped well in the foil. I went to rewrap it so it wouldn't fall out or fall apart. I then noticed that it literally was only half of a taco. Completely missing the other half of the shell. Why on earth would you think it's okay to send out half of someone's food! I give a two star rating because I normally am happy with the food but this is the second time taco dons messed up. First and foremost- if you're a Mexican restaurant and you charge for chips and salsa... you should have your Mexican card taken away. One major inherent characteristic of the Mexican culture is hospitality. If you want to call yourself a Mexican restaurant or taco shop... don't charge for an appetizer that customarily is free in almost all Mexican restaurants. Customer service there is exceptional. I am always greeted by a friendly employee behind the cash register. The food is not my favorite. And if it's your first time eating at this establishment be forewarned: the food on the menu isn't what you would normally expect from a Mexican restaurant. For example, the Chimichaga. Be aware it automatically comes with sauce covering the burro. Why? Why would you do such a thing? It defeats the purpose of a chimichanga. Which is deep fried burrito to make the flour tortilla crunchy. Adding sauce on top makes it a sopping wet mess. Don't make it an automatic, make it optional. So if you don't want a soggy burrito that's supposed to be crunchy , be sure tell them when you order. Rolled tacos are great. Dont expect the same old , pre-made rolled tacos you would get elsewhere. These flautas are legit. Crunchy and flavorful. But they skimp on the guacamole. Another strike. On a different visit I ordered two carne asada tacos and the amount of meat ( or lack thereof )they put on the taco was laughable and maddening at the same time. All I could taste was tortilla. Due to the fact that it was a carry out order, it was too late to return them and get a refund. I was mad. The enchilada plate is good. The red sauce has plenty of flavor. Beans and rice are good. Overall, I think the people of Prescott don't have many options for good quality Mexican food. The hype of Taco Dons I think is due to the atypical food presentation, i.e. rolled tacos don't look like a they were massed produced like any 'Bertos' you find at every corner. Bottom line: It's a roll of the dice if you're desperate for a change. read more

I have been here for both breakfast and lunch. The time I came for breakfast I got a carne asada breakfast burrito which was very good. When I came for lunch I got a cheese enchilada, chili relleno and rice and beans. This was also very good. My only complaint is that all of the available tables had food on them as well as on the seats. All of the booth seats were torn and the inside just had a generally dirty feel. The boy who took my order at the counter was somewhat abrupt with me when I asked him a question about a menu item. The other employees were very polite. The food here is good but they need to spend some time doing a deep clean and updating the appearance. read more

Excellent catering! The food was fresh, warm and delicious. The staff friendly and easy to work with. They arrived on time and did all the set up and serving of the taco, beans, rice and chips. The price was reasonable and all the servings generous. We arranged for two kinds of meat for the tacos and all the dressings. We ordered two tacos per guest which was more than enough. Taco Don's has the best Mexican food in Prescott! I moved here in 2019 from Chicago and was disappointed with all of the Mexican restaurants in town, until I found Taco Don's! Don't be fooled by the modest decor. My favorite is the shredded beef taquitos. Their slow cooked beef is always tender and delicious. Their Spanish rice is the best! Their chips and salsa are the best! This business is well run and managed and I love all the friendly staff members, and their drive-thru is fast. All of their staff have all worked there for a long time and they know me by name, as I eat there at least twice a week. Don't tell my wife! read more

Better than most of the mexican food here in Prescott. We're from Tucson, so we're used to the Mexican fast-food taco stand format. This particular one doesn't disappoint, and seems to be in line with the genre. The staff was very pleasant, more so than I'm used to at this type of place. I had the carne asada burrito, and the kids split a bean & cheese burrito. Both were good and the portions were adequate. The prices were reasonable. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Prescott. read more

We haven't been here in about 4 years, when we were less than impressed. A lot can change in a restaurant in that amount of time. We decided to bring the whole "crew" for breakfast, a change of scenery from the other breakfast places we frequent. For years, we would pass by, and nothing seemed to change. Even now, the outside of the building and the parking lot could use an overhaul. Inside, it's the same old booths and main counter i remember. But it looks like they gave the joint a fresh coat of paint. Everything was clean and tidy, including the rest rooms. We ordered various breakfast burritos, huevos ranchers, even nachos, for our youngest, pickiest eater. All report excellent food, very yummy! And good quantities too! 5 of 6 asked for to go containers, as they couldn't finish their items. Prices only seemed to be 50 cents to a dollar more expensive than the Mexican place down the street. But, here you get real plates and silverware, and much better restrooms. A good improvement. read more

We came in for breakfast, which they serve all day long. I had a Chorrizo and Egg breakfast plate and my boyfriend ate half because it was amazing. We will definitely be coming back soon. The WORST meal I ever had in Prescott, and ranks up there with the worst of my entire life. Ordered a fish taco, and a carnitas taco. To start off, the tortillas were cold and RAW...seriously NOT COOKED! The carnitas were dry and had NO flavor. But the fish taco was even worse. Instead of one chunk of battered fish, it contained small little nuggets of what I can only say looked like fish remnants from a cat food factory. They had an off taste and were extremely "fishy." Taco Don's is a tradition in this town .... for those in the know regarding Mexican food. Pretty much everything on the menu is very good. Two exceptions would be the taco shells are 'store style,' not fried, and when ordering anything with shredded beef in it (such as when I order a shredded beef chimichanga, or beef taquitos, the meet is sometimes watery and this will kind of ruin the dish. So why do I give Taco Don's 5-stars?? Because Taco Don's has a great staff, and with very few exceptions, great food. read more

We LOVE Taco Dons, and have for years. It's not fancy, but it's delicious and authentic. Someone posted 1 star because he assumed they were closed down. If he'd gotten his lazy butt out of the car and read the notice posted on the front door he would have seen they were having to replace the ovens. That 1 star rating was UNFAIR. As my other review states, best Mexican food in town and is always consistently good. The owner, Jayme Salazar, died in a motorcycle accident on 4/28/17. While I did not know him personally, he was always gracious whenever I came into the restaurant. I recently chuckled and commented to him when I saw him driving a PT Cruiser, that was shortly before his death. My thoughts and sympathy go out to all that worked and/or knew Jayme and to his family. Our community lost a great man. read more

While the exterior & decor could use some TLC I don't judge a place on looks alone. I also read reviews where the help was the cause of many low scores. For our first time here we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. But food speaks for itself. You order your meal at the counter and then sit down. They bring your food to you. They have the system worked out well. It you are dining there for the first time let them know for free chips & salsa. Otherwise there is a 90 cents charge. I think I've been unfair to Taco Don's - I still dislike the credit card surcharge, and feel it's fairly standard Mexican fare, but the daily (actually, they're weekly I think) specials make it a good choice. Pollo Fundido is delicious and easily makes two meals unless you're super hungry. I prefer getting food to-go from there - the drive through is fairly efficient and your car probably has better ambiance than their dining room. read more

Here is a family-owned, Mexican fast food restaurant in a Southwest mountain town that is already packed with a dozen or more Mexican places and a few "Mexican" chains that manages to holds it's own. We have hit this place for a lunch more than a few times and while is isn't a wildly imaginative nuevo-mexican-fusion establishment, we never fail to leave satisfied. It's your basic Americanized Mexican food - yellow cheese and the whole smear, but prepared with some skill and care. They offer some fine combination plates, always one of my favorites, and about as close to a Mexican buffet as Prescott seems to offer. They have an open kitchen, a feature that always pleases the foodie in me, so I can watch the guys cook as I wait for our order and that seems to make me appreciate the food that much more. The hits for me have been the Chorizo Burrito and the Fish Tacos; one for when I have a bearlike hunger, the other for the days when my jeans are a tad too tight! This place is really geared for takeout, as everything is packed to go, and there is a (busy) drive-up window, but they have a dozen or so tables and booths and they are always clean. I really wish the had real flatware; I have come to dislike the cheap, white, disposable forks in particular. Perhaps another down-check is that it is popular with the High School crowd and a few times it has been pretty mobbed. They seemed to be prepared for the traffic and keep churning out food and I don't think the quality suffered at all. How many High School students can you cram into a converted gas station? Quite a few, it appears! One gripe is having to order chips and salsa separate; I have been pretty well trained over the years to expect it at Mexican sit-down places, and I miss it here. read more
