Taco Flats is a really great spot in the heart of Lakeway in the same shopping center as Firehouse Subs and SP Brazilian Steakhouse. I have been several times for lunch and for happy hour. They have table service, full bar, generous portions and delicious food. I highly recommend their homemade chips and queso. They are the best chips in town by far! The tacos are very large and filling. Check this place out. You won't regret it.

The tacos are simply outstanding. This place hit the marks for what a great Taco place should be. Freshly made tortillas, savory meats, fresh fixing and salsas. The flavors were spot on with each of the items we tried. They have all the standards including carne asada, al pastor, chicken, shrimp and so on. They also have quesadillas and quesos. The queso with chorizo is excellent. Good consistency and it pairs nicely with the freshly made chips. The Pirata taco was outstanding. Melted cheese, black bean puree and super tender fajitas. So good. The quesadillas were very good as well. Lots of tender fajitas and gooey cheese. The cheese crust on one side really elevated this dish. Plenty of drinks and cocktails to choose from. Service was excellent.

The food was absolutely amazing. The Taco recipes are passed down through the owners family . This is a great spot to hang out on a weekend night.

The location in old town Lakeway with the awkward vibe of strange interior, food truck like service and food, and trying to be a bar with food vs a restaurant with a bar, Taco Flats falls flat. While the service was attentive, the Chicken Mole tacos was nothing more than an outside burrito folded like a taco with ZERO mole flavor texture or anything but delicious. It sort of reminded me of the burrito you buy as a college student. Next up was the Nachos. Coming in a pizza take-out box, it was a ton of chicken and veggies but mostly uncooked but mixed cooked and uncooked jalapeños. If you like pizza supremes, this is your item. Large for sharing but the rawness of the item is less than desirable and something any one could do. The queso with chorizo certainly rivals the best in Austin. But the freshly made chips were greasy. This location wasnt family friendly even though it think every place in Lakeway strives to be. I can see most sitting at tables looking around waiting for their items to arrive is a key indicator that kitchen service is very slow. The indoor / garage door outdoor ambience just doesn't work. Serving dine-in in paper trays and trying normalizing we will charge you a fortune and expect a tip while serving in to-go containers, it's hard to compliment. Certainly those that golf may find this place convenient and above average compared to clubhouses with the bar first, then food priority. Uninspiring. Save your money and time.

We picked a freezing afternoon to check out the Lakeway Taco Flats, and entered to a warm welcome from the friendly employees. The restaurant is surprisingly large with relaxing decor and has a full bar with seating along the back, along with multiple tables and chairs. Multiple TVs are mounted on each wall, and each displayed a sports channel, except the one with a film loop of a flickering fireplace. Their menus include a separate brunch and all-day menu, with creative tacos on your choice of flour or corn tortillas. Each breakfast/brunch taco includes scrambled eggs. They also have soup and the most amazing daily greens salad, with walnuts and a plethora of fruits and veggies and citrus dressing. Their chips and salsa are homemade, just the right amount of heat and flavor, with a chili pepper coating on the tortilla chips. Drinks range from tap beer to craft cocktails, which you can peruse on their drink menu. Taco Flats is a bit of an upgrade from similar other local taco places, like Torchy's and Taco Deli. It's also a bit more expensive. A light lunch for two and a mixed drink ran us about $40 plus tip. They also will prepare orders to go, and have a separate to-go counter at the far right corner of the bar. Parking is available free in the shopping center lot.

It's finally open! We've been waiting sooo long for this Austin favorite to come to Lakeway! We stopped in to check them out and just had marg's and apps but the menu is similar to the Burnet location. They're still in a soft opening phase, with shorter hours ( opens at 3) but I'm sure that will evolve over time - at least I hope so on weekends! Bartender made a great classic Margarita - just G4, Cointreau and lime juice. No sugar! Yay! Queso and Guacamole have NO RAW ONIONS! YAY again! Salsa had perfect amount of heat too. With 7 TV's and lots of shared farmhouse bar top tables, this place will surely become a fav sports environment for our locals. Looking forward to trying more tacos!

Been here twice, both times it seems pretty mediocre. Food is so so, music mix was all over the place. Server was nice though.

I said I wanted the fajita flour taco, and the shrimp flour taco. Also ordered a mojito too. Mojito was refreshing, it's been so hot lately. Mostly humid. Didn't take long for the tacos to come out. The shrimp tacos really are outstanding. Fat juicy shrimp with diced onion, purple cabbage and I think jalapeño, or maybe Serrano peppers. Just love them. I did add a little of the red sauce they have in these cute glass bottles with a pour lid. First time getting the fajita. You have a choice of beef or chicken. I got the beef. It wasn't anything special. Literally meat and onions and green peppers. The meat is tender, and juicy and it was filling. But I will definitely get 2 shrimp tacos next time, cause they're completely outstanding. I also got a side of Spanish rice too. I added some of the spicy red sauce to it. The rice is fluffy, and with the red sauce it was nice Happy that I stopped in. It was smooth sailing heading home.

When they took over their current location (used to be a divish bar) in 2022, they really transformed the place into something special. Arguably one of the best patios in the Lake Travis area. Lots of choices of types of seating from standard tables and chairs to comfy sofas. Complete with a fire pit, full bar with TVs, lots of fans, QR code orfering and checkout an option...super chill, spacious, and inviting environment (especially since it's located directly off of busy 620). The inside is really large, including an oversized bar area seating. Offers a very nice dining option (or just for drinks), but if the weather's nice you'll "catch me outside." Don Mario has always offered traditional Mexican cuisine. If you're looking for boring Tex-Mex, you might be a little bit disappointed (albeit they do offer quesadillas, fajitas, flautas+ but kicked up a notch). Some of my personal favorites are the Mexican street tacos (seven different proteins to choose from), ceviche, albondigas, cóctel de camarones, and more; great chips and salsa. Another favorite is off menu, but it's just a basic refried bean and cheese burrito. Magically flavorful and they are not shy with the cheese, which is a very good thing in my book. A great inexpensive and indulgent option to get in protein for the day. Always receive very friendly and prompt service from both wait staff and kitchen. They're always amenable to any special requests, including creating off menu items as previously mentioned. If you're in the mood, they do serve some pretty tasty house frozen FRESH fruit margaritas (strawberry, pineapple, cucumber, or mango). They have a limited happy hour available Monday through Friday from 3-7pm. Save a buck is a buck is a buck. ;) Overall, sí por favor. :D ¡Salud!

Oh well, it's only THE SIGNATURE DRINK OF EVERY MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN TEXAS! But really, we went out for dinner, not drinks. So, we got the shrimp enchiladas. Oh wait , what kind of enchiladas would you like? Let me order directly from the menu. "Enchiladas Camerones" Oh, you mean the shrimp enchiladas? Well, they were very good. So were the black beans and rice. I would order them again. You think we're done? Uh-uh.. Then came the mariachis!! The place is noisy as it is with a hard floor and large open space. Add 6 guys blasting brass, strings and Spanish at the top of their lungs and you'll get the jist. 165 dB would have been welcome. My water glass was spurting out the top. My hearing aids were feeding back. It almost felt like my last Rolling Stones concert in row 13. But, in all seriousity, everyone around me didn't seem to mind the noise, the music and the inability to communicate with anyone farther than 6" from you without having to yell. Having only been to a couple of Mexican restaurants in this area, I don't know if this is the standard or the exception. Stay tuned.

Had to get the green chile queso too, which is creamy, addictive perfection with fresh chips. The tacos are pricey at around $5-6 each, but the portions are huge and the flavor combinations are creative. Casual counter-service setup with paper baskets makes it easy and laid-back. I heard they had sold off a huge majority stake to another company, and it really shows. Definitely not an ATX thing anymore. Quality control for tacos in Austin out the window. :( Staff was very unanimated. Not rude, cordial, but certainly not friendly. I ordered an off menu item -simple refried beans and cheese in a flour tortilla- and was told it would be four dollars. When I looked at my receipt they charged me 7 bucks; just a few cents less than the Steak Fajita taco I ordered. Rip off IMHO. Both tacos were thrown together so sloppy, with torn tortillas and everything. Sounds very nitpicky I know, but how hard can it be to at least get the ingredients inside a tortilla when you order a taco? Very messy. And the fajita meat had too much gristle on it for my liking (tough). On a positive note, the self service station was very well stocked and clean. Half of the large restaurant consists of four top tables that reads family friendly. The entire other half and patio is totally a local "bar" hangout. It was very apparent there were lots of regulars drinking (and not eating), talking very loudly amongst themselves. So if that's the vibe you seek, this is a joint for you. Um, cheers!

Finally, today was the day and I sure wish I would have tried this place sooner. Since moving to Texas from Southern Cal, I haven't found many places that have what I would call authentic tacos. I keep trying hoping to find that place and I just might have. They are located in a small food truck court off 71. Easy parking and they have plenty of outdoor seating if you want to enjoy your tacos fresh. I only ordered "street tacos" with Adobada; I didn't have to wait long and I did take them to-go since I don't live very far. When I got home, they were still fresh and warm. They were prepared in fresh corn tortillas (they do also offer flour) and there is quite a bit of meat. They came with lime wedges and some red & green sauce. Given my experience with other taco locations, I wasn't expecting much. But my first bite... I was surprised at how delicious they are. Most places I have been to, the meat tastes as though it has been warming in a metal bin for awhile and lacks freshness. But this meat was very fresh and delicious. Squeeze a little lime and add some of the green sauce and these tacos are epic! I ordered three and thought for sure I would end up throwing one or two of them out. But after eating two of them, I saved the third for my daughter but was tempted to eat it too. If the tacos are this good... I am sure the rest of the food must be great. I have had tacos from a few places in downtown Austin that are good, but it's a far drive to get them regularly. It's nice to know the best tacos I have tried since coming to Texas is quite close to me. And between the tacos I have had in Austin and Ortega's, I would choose Ortega's any day. Although they provided red sauce, if you like really spicy... use the green sauce. Like finding good tacos, it has been difficult to find good spicy taco sauce but their green sauce is going to make you sweat a little. Although I waited years to try, I'm glad I finally tried Ortega's and I will be back soon.
