We went to Las Palomas for cinco de mayo and we had a solid experience. Large parking lot, even larger restaurant. Tons of options for indoor and outdoor seating. Our waitress was on it! Drinks, chips, etc she couldn't have done a better job. The food itself was ok, not bad but just ok. The queso was way too watery and same with the salsa. I ordered the mole plate and couldn't believe the portion size of the chicken. It looked like a small chicken leg, figured it wouldn't have at least been a little larger considering the cost. Beet/avocado salad didn't have any beets in it. The beef tacos and chicken fajitas were good though. Our 4 top table was absolutely not big enough, that's not a usual thing I think about when I eat out. But we were constantly having to reorganize our table to ensure we didn't spill. The food is genuinely excellent -- flavorful, fresh, and a cut above the usual Tex-Mex fare -- and the atmosphere, when it's humming, has the warmth of a true neighborhood restaurant. This is a place where regulars feel at home, and the kitchen consistently delivers. That said, a recent visit left me with a few wishes. The outdoor patio, which could be one of Las Palomas' greatest assets in an Austin climate, is showing its age. The tables, chairs, bench seating with their worn/stained pads, are overdue for a refresh -- small investments that would go a long way toward matching the quality of what comes out of the kitchen. This is a excellent restaurant And the moment I walked through the door I was greeted with such warmth. I was absolutely happy that they felt I was the only person in the restaurant but in fact they make you feel that way. Granted I just love the menu they have the one dish that I have always loved was the spinach enchiladas with chicken. I also ordered the corn soup which was flavorful one of my favorites!! Yes this restaurant is lovely and very decorated you feel like you're in Spain because of the towel floors and the furniture the dining area has very nice decor. It's very suitable for anyone who wants to fill there in another country especially Spain. Parking can be a problem but the thing is you may want to park away from being too close to the restaurant because you get better parking that way which I did today. Restaurant is very clean tidy food was absolutely delicious especially the spinach enchiladas! I will definitely return because the guacamole with chips is also very very good in the way they make it kind of different from any other Spanish restaurant. We had a work outting for the department here. It was recommended by someone who's been here several times. I do have to say the food was amazing. I had the chimichurri salmon salad just because it was lunch and I wanted to still be able to work the rest of the afternoon. The portions are generous and flavors right on point. They have an outside seating area very cute, but it was too hot to enjoy this time. I'm sure during fall people fight over those seats. Inside it's nicely decorated, the staff is super friendly, and the general vibe is catchy. I would certainly be back, not for a work lunch but with friends on a weekend. Food was a 10/10! Super delicious and flavorful. We went on a Tuesday at 2:30 and no one was in there, which was great. Service was quick and our food came out quickly as well. A little bummed I had to wait and ask for a drink refill, especially given how empty the place was. We sat in the front of the restaurant and that side room was clean and well decorated. One thing to note: the plates were SCALDING hot. The server told us this when she brought the plates, but it was like they never cooled down. It was nice cause my food never got cold, but daggum, it also took 15 minutes to cool down enough to take my first bite. read more

So I ended up here for my ol' lady's birthday. She told me she wanted Mexican food so I began my search. I settled on the restaurant because they had great reviews. I was blown away by everything here in the best way possible. Everything we ate was way above expectations. The mole is better than some of the ones I've had from actual abuelita's. Everything was full of amazing flavor, from the appetizers to the entrees all the way to desert. Now to mention the staff, service was amazing, our waiter was attentive and I never had to ask for anything. We talked about the food and his passion for it, even as a server, he still loves it and eats there on the regular. The management was present and just as amazing. We are going to make this a regular spot for sure! 10/10 for sure. I wish I could give more than 5 stars if I'm being honest. Amazing experience all around. read more

Very pleasant restaurant, had a nice dining experience on Valentine's Day. Sadly, our reservation was at 8:30 PM and we didn't get sat till 9:10 PM, so minor inconvenience. Other than that the staff were very friendly and food was delicious. They had a pre-selected 4-course menu for this day. ~ Soup ~ - The caldo tlapeño was delicious 5/5. It came with rice and pieces of avocado. Nice soup to start off with. - The sopa poblana was good, but it need either pieces of chicken or something else to add that extra flavor. It was too much of the same flavor for a starting dish. 3.5/5 ~ Appetizers ~ - The ceviche was good, not my favorite, I felt like it lacked a bit of flavor. 3/5 - The mini tostadas were very good. Very small, but all had good flavor it was hard not to want more. They each have beans at the base and really stood out on their own. 5/5 ~ Entree ~ - The redfish al limon, was very good. The rice was nice and soft. The veggies may have been a bit too soft. Really had a nice soft fish texture and the limon really stood out. 4/5 - The steak and shrimp al chimichurri was very good. It was great flavor and the rice was really good. The only downside was the steak wasn't cooked the way I wanted it and the veggies were very soggy. 4/5 ~ Dessert ~ - Sopapilla was DELICIOUS. It was almost like a warm light cinnamon donut. The ice cream was a great pairs. 5/5 - The tres leches cake was decent. I really wanted the apple pie empanada but they had already run out. Overall great experience with this meal in addition they gave us a glass each of Prosecco. I did wish they were a bit more prepared for the volume they received, especially given that people made reservations and still had to wait a good minute before getting seated. read more

I have dined at Las Palomas Restaurant & Bar many times and always enjoyed delicious Mexican food. The staff is always very friendly. On this visit I had a Mixed Greens Salad and was very good. The greens were very fresh and had a nice flavor. Normally get something more Mexican but needed to eat lightly on this day. I had the quesadillas, crispy tacos, and enchiladas previous times and they were very tasty with great flavor. You can either sit inside out on an outdoor patio. read more

Didn't advertise fixed menu for VDay, which was incompatible for our party due to dietary restrictions and wildly expensive for what it was, said they would charge us for cancelling reservation when we tried to leave and go elsewhere (as if half the establishment wasn't empty). Only way we could get out of being charged was to order an overpriced drink at the bar. Staff and management were rude to us when we tried to leave. Added an extra star because the location was convenient and they had us seated quickly. Dropped in during Lunch time with a friend. We had a 3 year old and a 1 year old and requested high chairs. They brought the chairs over and that was about the extent that they either acknowledged the kids or weren't annoyed by their presence. We had to ask for kids menus (mind you, we have two) and they seem inconvenienced and just bring one. They take our drink orders and we have to call our server back and ask if the kids can also get some waters. I don't expect any special accommodations when I have kids with me but for a family friendly restaurant I do expect the kids to be seen as real people. We ordered a small queso and salsa/chips. Someone other than our server brought over those items but also brought guacamole and a third dipping sauce. I said "oh, I'm not sure we ordered all of this." She said "yes, you did." I know we didn't. She then grabs the extra items off the table and walks away in a huff. I hear her tell our server what happened and he clarifies to her "no, they just wanted the queso and salsa." It felt like we were being accused of some heinous crime of lying. The food was okay. A bit overpriced in my opinion for casual Mexican food lunch specials. I do wish when I am having Mexican food that it would be served with Mexican rice. They serve theirs with white rice. I had the chicken tostada which I actually really enjoyed. I had the tortilla soup, it was just broth and some crispy tortilla strips. Very bizarre and lacking. My child's food was decent, the quesadilla was good. As for authentic Mexican food, no. Just no. I'm first gen, I've traveled through most of Mexico. To say this is authentic is a far stretch. An attempt was made as it's not Tex-mex either. But, no. They seemed to be trying to rush us out by trying to clear our table far before we were ready. Our three year old had to speak up and tell the server she was still eating. We spend a lot of our days in this area as we live nearby and the kids activities are centered in the westlake area. There are too many options for food here, we will not be coming back. read more

We came here for dinner before movies at Barton Square Creek (4 min away from the mall). The Good: There is a lot of seating options (two dining halls, a cute patio outside, and even what seemed like a private dining room). The wait staff is extremely nice and attentive (I don't think we ever ran out of chips or salsa). They were also very accommodating - I swapped the mole enchilada in the combo for a ranchera one. The Not So Great: The food itself was unfortunately pretty bland. I had to revive my plate with plenty of salt and salsa. My family and I decided to get some food from Las Palomas. We ordered online and my husband picked it up. We got chips and salsa to share. The chips were crispy and the salsa was addicting. We also ordered an extra side of Charro Beans and Rice to share. I added my portion to my meal. As a starter we ordered the Nachos. They come with refried beans and cheese and we added shredded chicken. It came with pico, guacamole, and jalapenos on the side. The Nachos were good. The chips were a little soggy but the nachos were good. I am glad we added the shredded chicken because it was flavorful and made the nachos tasty. For my main meal I chose a steak rice bowl which has grilled beef tenderloin strips, grilled onions, and grilled bell peppers served on rice with an avocado tomatillo sauce and vinaigrette onions. I added some Charro beans and additional rice to my bowl. The bowl was tasty. There were plenty of tenderloin strips in the dish. What really gave the bowl flavor was the tomatillo sauce and the vinaigrette onions. They provided the flavor that was needed so that the bowl wouldn't taste bland. The patio was perfect for this Spring Break evening. The tables are far enough apart so you don't feel crowded. Our waiter was fantastic. I should have asked for his name. Ordered dinner pickup last night and never will again from this place. The salsa has no heat, the guacamole is watery, and the chips taste like they come out of a bag. When I made my pickup order, I had ordered a frozen margarita to go which was $18 by itself; it was at the bottom of my food bag and had totally melted, and was in the smallest little plastic bottle, absolutely insane to charge $18 for it. In addition to all of this, the food was incredibly poor quality and looked messy in the containers like they had just been thrown in. To finish it all, the sopaipillas were just greasy old flat pieces of dough with the saddest dust of cinnamon just on the middle. Located in a strip mall, there's a ton of seating inside and offers an affordable menu of various Mexican dishes. This restaurant was recommended by a friend who said they had authentic Mexican food. I want to for shout out to Wesley who is a wonderful server. We were a tough group asking for all sorts of modifications, but he was patient and helpful. The red fish tacos were good, my friend who had the chicken mole said it was also good. The fajitas were plentiful and good. The guacamole was also good and the chips warm. The reason I gave this restaurant three stars was because it was average. Nothing stood out. The rice and beans tasted like canned food. The fish in the tacos was a very small portion for the price. I was surprised to get white rice at a Mexican restaurant but it was good. Beans were great and the salsa and chips too. I had a jalapeño margarita and my husband has the house margarita. Both were delicious. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the steak was very gamy. I ate half of it and couldn't eat the other half I was just going to eat it just because. It was a decent size. I would not mind if the steak was half the size but better quality meat. I will definitely return and try other dishes. Las Palomas has great food ! I like their chicken fajitas and their cochinita pabil enchiladas. I find thier beer and margaritas to be reasonably priced. I also listen to some great live music last night. They also have a very nice outdoor patio and the best thing of all is easy parking. This place has been a staple in the area forever. Some recent improvements but the food is the same. The staff has a bit more turn over lately but again most are doing wonderful. We bring family and friends here when people are visiting us from out of town. This is more interior Mexican food than Tex Mex food. Don't let the shopping center location turn you away. The drinks, the food and the service are great. I hope it stays for decades to come. I do know many of the local shops are experience issues with the new shopping center owners. Chips are generic corn tortilla chips sourced at Costco. Salsa tasted like store bought picante sauce. Tortillas were store bought. Rice is like steamed rice, no Mexican flavoring.
