Taco mama is great for a Taco Tuesday!! Their sampler is my favorite to start off for the table or even just to "girl dinner". The guac, queso, and salsa are always delicious, and the chips are perfectly crisp and salty. The burrito bowls are a new favorite, and I love the build your own feature. I don't always love their pre-built tacos/burritos so would definitely go for the build your own. Margaritas here are also fantastic. My favorites are the skinny and the blood orange. On Tuesdays, the mi casa and skinny are 50% which is fabulous. Also always great and personable service. Love being able to come here for a quick delicious dinner. read more

Tasty tacos!! I had the Mayor and the Sizzler taco basket 1 on corn tortilla 1 on flour. Street corn side. Chicken and steak both cooked perfectly with great flavors, good portion of meat. Street corn was different than what I was expecting. There is an extra ingredient not sure what, but yummy nonetheless. Their tortilla chips are addictive! Thin mindless eating good. Taco Mama is a great spot to get affordable drinks and Mexican food. They have great deals on their house margs and pitchers on Tuesdays if you want an after work treat! I had their sangrita this day, which may be a little too sweet, but really tangy and refreshing. Their Prosecco based drink is quite good too. Quality is a little hit or miss on their main food items, but the steak and burrito bowls are a good option. Okay we come to taco mama weekly and this was maybe the visit that will make us stop. The portion sizes for the price are generous and the sides are free with an entree purchase. I was visiting my best friend in Birmingham and was trying to decide what we'd have for dinner Saturday night. Since I left, they built a Taco Mama downtown, which was near my friend's hotel, so we opted to visit that location. We arrived and there was a fairly long line. Luckily, it was moving very fast. I was looking at the menu trying to remember what I used to get and there it was - the Yo Mama burrito with comes with tortilla chips, a side of queso, and another side of your choice. Once I got to the register, I ordered the Yo Mama (added grilled onions) with a side of corn. We got our drinks and found a table outside near the door. Our food arrived within minutes and I was ready to dig in to my burrito! I must say, it wasn't as great as I remember but it was still delicious. However, the corn was completely new and I did not like it. It was almost elote, but not quite. Unfortunately, I gobbled my burrito up so fast I didn't get a pic lol. The best thing about Taco Mama are their margaritas. I can't really get down with their food because it's bland. I ordered the burrito bowl with barbacoa, lettuce, avocado, queso, grilled onions, tomatoes, and pickled jalapeños. They forgot the pickled jalapeños so I had to wait at the front for them. However the service is really good! I'm not a big fan of the seating arrangements. Not plenty of space and kind of awkward placement. Taco Mama is coming to downtown Bham!! Well, it's already here. We were invited to a preview party that we thought was for UAB employees only. But turns out everyone and their brother were invited! Glad we got there early to get a seat/table and not have to wait long for our drinks. The margaritas were delicious. The queso was just like queso should be. I'm so happy to have this Taco Mama in the downtown/Southside area! Yes, $8 nachos! The nachos are so good. You choose a protein (or not) and then select from an amazing selection of toppings at NO EXTRA CHARGE! That includes queso and guac! Great place for lunch. We were visiting the UAB Hospital complex when lunch time came around. We took a walk in the downtown area hoping to find a familiar restaurant. We noticed a determined young lady dressed in scrubs enroute to another of the many buildings in the area. We stopped her long enough to simply ask what restaurants she recommended for lunch. stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. I had the build your own quesadilla and "Major" tacos. my guest had the build your own nachos. My tacos were filled with chicken a little salsa on top. They come 2 tacos with 1 side, I had queso & chips. The queso is really good. The tacos was just ok . the quesadilla was huge, because I ate those tacos I could only eat one slice, it was bomb, I loved it. This was my first time here. What I didnt like is the horrible smell as soon as we opened the door. It sort of has a sewage smell at this location. There's a very small seating area outside and it was full. The smell eventually subsided somewhat, but not sure what that's about. I'm still giving 4 stars and will be back and hopefully smell issues will be fixed. I would come here just for the margs honestly. The food is very mediocre. It's not bad but its just not impressive at all. Everything does seem fresh which is nice, but the flavor just isn't there for me. I have tried several things on the menu from the quesadilla, salad, nachos, bowl, none of it was good. I left full but kinda powered thru the meal because I was hungry. I have also had their food at different locations and its all the same. I wish I loved it because fast Mexican food just sounds amazing, especially since you can buy margaritas here unlike some other fast Mexican places. This place is DELICIOUS! We are regulars here! My mom has celiac and the staff really takes her eating needs into consideration. Everyone that works there is always helpful and friendly. I've been here so many times I don't know how I've just now written a review. I usually go with a chicken quesadilla and add on a multitude of things. The lines here can get long but they do work very fast to get your order in. My girlfriend always comes here for margs and they'll make those as soon as you order. I've had food catered from this place maybe about 10 times now? They always do a great job and give you so much food! We always order the make your own tacos or chips bar and they never disappoint.
