    Steak & chicken tacos
    Sinnamen S.

The customer service was great & the food was delicious! I ordered 2 steak & one chicken taco. Meat flavoring is usually my issue with tacos; these weren't super seasoned, but they weren't bland. Once you add some salsa, they're perfect. Chips are included. They're also reasonably priced! I almost forgot to take a pic but, I snapped one before I ate too much of it.

Finally made it back since my last review and have enjoyed the chorizo and shrimp quesadillas on separate visits. The portions are huge and pack great flavors. Service is still good and the owners have completed an expansion into another business that closed. On my last review, I think they only had a long bench with a few bar stools. Now you can enjoy dining in a bigger space.

Good food, good people, nice establishment! I've never had a bad dish here! I've had their soft shell beef tacos, hard shell beef tacos, hard shell chicken tacos, beef nachos, chicken nachos, salad, steak breakfast tacos, breakfast potatoes and my favorite beverage is their in house Hibiscus tea! Large portions, fresh ingredients, fast service. Inside and outside seating available. Lunch rush is always crazy but worth it!

Ben here twice now. I just discovered this place. Each time I have gotten tacos and they are very good. The ambience is chill, friendly staff and quick service. Definitely will return again.

For what it is (a fast Mexican spot), this place is TASTY. A burrito with well-seasoned beans, a side of hot, fresh chips, and delicious salsa all for under $10? I'm here for it.

Honestly these are the best tacos in town to me, no debate no question. Just a few tips, if you're going around 11:30-1 they're super busy. So good could take maybe 15 min to get to you, but it's definitely worth it if you have the time. The people are always super nice. They have about 4 tables that seat 4, 4 side tables that seat 2, and one large table that seats 6 I believe. So if you wanted to eat in that's always an option as long as the flow of people isn't too heavy. ALSO THEY'RE OPEN ON SATURDAYS NOW!!

Great street style Mexican food served here. I got a burrito and a taco, and both were excellent and reasonably priced. For some reason, I was expecting the more American style tacos to be served here, but they definitely have the more authentic stuff. I think they also have the Americanized bland tacos and burritos too for those that want that. I've long driven by here and wanted to try it, so I'm glad I did. If you are looking to check it out, I'd recommend coming in the evening or on weekends. Parking can get tricky during the weekdays.

There are tons of food spots near my job, but this will always be a go to for me. The service is fast and friendly, the food is amazing, and the prices aren't terrible. I mostly order the steak taco salad. It is a bed of lettuce with tomatoes, grilled bell peppers, grilled onions, cheese, salsa, and ranch. It is all place in a crunchy bowl that is to die for. I also add guacamole to mine. And their sweet tea, is actually SWEET!! If your ever in the Southside of Birmingham and craving Mexican, this is your spot.

I have driven/walked past this place ever since I was in college without having eaten here so I didn't know what to expect. For some reason, I was thinking it would be more like a Chipotle/Moe's and very casual/ grab and go. I came in here yesterday, and it was an actual sit down Mexican Restaurant! The signage and name definitely threw me off as to what the atmosphere would be like. There were a couple of menu items that seemed tasty to me mainly the quesadillas and the nachos. I decided on the steak nachos. Service was very fast and the workers seemed friendly. At the pick up counter, you can watch them make the food in front of you too. As for the nachos, the chips didn't seem that fresh. I did enjoy the lettuce, tomato, queso, salsa, and jalapenos. I placed a pick up order so I did have to add more of my own salsa and guacamole. The steak pieces were also pretty tiny, so I probably would not order their steak again. Overall, it's good to know we have a sit down Mexican restaurant within walking distance to UAB so I can see how they have been in business for so long!

Disgusting "steak" had to be fake meat because it chewy like bubblegum! (NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGE) for a reason the know they serve TRASH !

Chicken tacos were dry and flavorless. They should have seasoned it with chicken taco seasoning oil and lime juice.

Cayo Coco has been on my list of restaurants to try for a few months now, and I can confidently say…read morethat I'll be back soon! I genuinely could have ordered almost anything off the menu; everything sounded delicious. Unfortunately, I don't have the budget or the ability to consume every dish off the menu, so my boyfriend and I settled on splitting 2 small plates and 1 entree. What we ordered: -Smoked Fish Fritters: a Cuban delicacy. Still thinking about how good these were. Plenty to share! -Snapper Ceviche: personally not my thing, but my boyfriend loved this. I honestly wanted to like this, but the raw fish started to weird me out. -Jerk Chicken: served atop a tomato/bbq risotto that was devine. The inside here is so cozy and slightly tropical. They have a huge alcoholic selection too if that's your vibe. I'm so excited to return and try some more dishes!

I ordered the Espresso Martini ($14); it was lacking something in the flavor, but that could possibly be from me going against the grain when ordering. I had the jerk chicken, it was not a true jerk chicken ($29) it was basically grilled chicken with sauce so when expecting something more authentic it was disappointing to say the least. The tamarind caesar ($15) was also different than I expected; although I would make a trip for it, I would order it again when visiting. The best thing I tried was actually the typhoon brusssel sprouts ($12), I was very happy with them and honestly would have been okay if that was the only thing I ordered. The wait staff was great, very personable and being willing to dicuss the menu and give suggestions. Espresso Martini(Vodka-Carajillo) 7/10 flavor is not what accustomed to might have been better with the Rum normally fixed with. Tamarind Caesar- at first glance definitely not my regular Caesar. Definitely not an average Caesar the lettuce is grilled giving it a smoky flavor, caught off guard but I would order again. 8/10 Jerk Chicken- overall was a good dish first time trying farro wasn't sure what to expect made me think of oatmeal, the mango salsa and sauce on the chicken was good the chicken itself was a bit dry but still good. Overall I would give the dish a 7.5 I rarely order chicken out and I think this was a reminder why. Typhoon Brussel Sprouts- had great taste 9/10 I could come back and get a drink with the Brussels. Would consider the Star of the night The price was consistent with the area, nothing seemed overly priced. Portions were also large enough to be split so if with a group and wanting to try multiple items you would be able to do it and have enough.

In fact, I'm getting warm feelings right now just thinking about my time here. Their vegan option is a nopal taco (tender, marinated cactus). It's excellent, but what makes it next level is that SALSA BAR with the best salsas I've ever had. It reminds me of taquerias in California. I drowned my taco in all of the sauces. In fact, I could probably be happy eating tortillas and salsa here. Because, yes, the tortillas are that delicious. As is that guac. Again, some of the best I've ever had, gimmicky tableside guac included (never felt that was such a great thing anyway). Here, you get a generous portion of the creamiest quality guac you can imagine. I can't report on the margaritas other than to say they look gorgeous.
