So, like most places in the south loop there isn't anything special about Taco Madre. The shrimp taco was the star of the show & even it can be made at home. The prices were a little steep in my opinion albeit it coming with basically two sides but it comes out to around $5 per taco & they're small. Everything had extremely bland flavor & the special, the blackened shrimp taco was the worst of them all. The salsa bar in the back of the restaurant was a cool idea but again nothing here tastes heavenly. I have yet to find the holy grail of tacos in Chicago but this place doesn't deserve a return visit from me. Parking is scarce here on the east side of the street but plentiful on the west side. There's several other restaurants in in the area but again it's south loop so don't expect much. read more

In a first experience at Taco Madre, it was OK. We ordered delivery and that might have been the main issue. I'll give the place another chance for sure in-person. With the delivery, the food came in cool and sometimes soggy. It seemed like it had potential as some of the flavors were there, but we missed out because of the issues mentioned above. Ended up getting a burrito which was a mistake in my mind. The pork lacked flavor I've come to expect from Carnitas dishes. The chips were good had a paprika like seasoning on them. My margarita was an orangish color. It wasn't flavored specially. If I were inclined to give this place another try I'd go with the tacos. All the other folks seem to enjoy the tacos. Oh and another thing the salsa that came with the chips was hot which I thought while not unparalled was odd. I should add throughout the year the kind of restaurant I eat at most throghtout the year are Mexican places. Perhaps it's because of my high exacting standards I was disappointed. I did an 3-month internship in Chicago in 2019, and I visited Taco Maya at least 6 times. My friends and I still talk about the blackened shrimp tacos to this day. Everything from the tacos, to the chips and salsa, to the rice is delicious. And I love how multi cultural and experimental the food is. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! GOOD FOOD IS NOT WORTH IT! I've been coming to Taco Maya for years and have been ordering from them like once a month or more often. I love their food, but their customer service on April 26th was horrendous. I placed an online order ready for pickup at 7:52 and we waited over 30 min for my order to be ready. I called to complain and the message when you call says "customer service is our top priority" or something like that. I was then transferred to Gabby who was extremely rude to me on the phone when I asked for a refund. She was unapologetic for the extreme delay and I called them out on not adhering to values of customer service. I asked to speak to her manager and she said she will write my name and number down for the manager to call me back. I've been on hold for over 20 minutes. I even tried to call from another cell and that line has been put on hold for 10 min. TO THE MANAGER: treat loyal patrons with respect, apologize when errors are made, and offer concessions to loyal patrons. read more

I continuously order from them for delivery. I've had taco maya in many locations and this is by far the best one. Great service, great food, consistent and clean. I love their tacos. my only critique is that , I do wish when you order to go they actually give you the sauces/salsas on the side. They not only don't give them, but if you ask for 6 tacos, you get 2 sauces if you ask. So it would be nice to do a bit more there. Otherwise, my go to and amazing always!!! read more

Found this place on Yelp. From the reviews and the pictures I initially thought this place would larger. I thought it was more of a sit down restaurant. It's a small walk up and order establishment with first come first serve seating. Before we ordered our food we were told all food had to be made to order due to limited seating, but thankfully as soon as our food was done, seating became available. I got the chignon taco with a hard shell and it was sooo good. I even got a house margarita that was delish! My hubby got a shrimp burrito and he's still talking about it 2 days later! A friend was heading to my hood and craving tacos, queue me opening Yelp and doing a search for tacos. BOOM Taco Maya to the rescue! I'm honestly surprised there aren't more taco restaurants in the South Loop, but that's okay, because we've got Taco Maya! It's a fast-casual dining experience, where you order at the front, take a number, and they bring out your food and drinks to you! It was a Monday and their daily special is half off house margaritas. Sign me up! The margarita was great. Made with tangerine, it's a refreshing take on a classic cocktail. For taco's I took three of their al pastor. They were filled with tender seasoned meat and grilled onions. They were delicious! They also give you chips and a cup of their house homemade salsa with your order. The house salsa was delicious, with the right amount of heat, but not spicy. They also have a serve yourself salsa bar, and from the ones I tired, they were all great. A standout was the jalapeno salsa. It's creamy and made for a perfect edition to top on my taco! We also got a side of the guac and queso. Both were a little underwhelming, but did the trick! Overall, I left Taco Maya happy and satisfied! I have been to this casual, Mexican hang out place a few times now. I always loved paneer and to find a taco place that serves paneer tacos was a boon to me. I've been hooked! They have recently introduced a chilly potato taco as well to their menu and that is simply DELISH! Icing on the cake is my 10 year old son loves their steak tacos. So anytime we have playdates and sleepovers, we bring the kids here for dinner and it's always a big hit with the young boys! Not to forget their margaritas and Palomas made with FINO Tequila!!! We have been long time customers of this establishment and our last two visits have been nothing shy of disappointing. Last time our queso was thick and clunky and the food was simply just fine. Stopped by this establishment after leaving the hair salon and being recommended. I walked in this evening and a young indian looking girl never looked up and kept working on the register or whatever she was doing as if I was not standing there . Next a young lady who happened to be white walked up to the left of me as she was dining there, she too waited until a male 30ish aged indian man walked over stating "Yes ma'am how can i help you ?" The customer asked for a cup and the manager gave her a cup. The manager then walked up to the cashier who was still ignoring me and began helping her, finally I said "Excuse me sir are you going to ask me what I need help with since you asked the other lady ?" He became embarrassed and said "no" stumbling over his words as to say he was not ignoring me, I finally said "You know what forget it !" and walked out . I do not recommend anyone of color to visit this restaurant they're rude and indifferent to non-white folk , it was as if I was invisible. Great tacos close to Millennium Park. Walked here with my wife after arriving late to our hotel. Ordered up three tacos, one carne asada, one al pastor, and one of their house specials. Tacos came with complimentary chips and salsa (dine-in only). All were good, but my favorite was the house special taco and the warm salsa that came with the chips. So good. I'm a solid customer of this place. I love their food very much. And every Tuesday if I have no work to do we go to this place on Tuesday. Every Tuesday they have a free taco Maya if you purchase 2 of it. It was so good and yummy. I enjoy being alone here. One of my favorite dishes here was Mahi Mahi tacos. It's filled with a different variety of veggies and on top of it was a slice of avocado.  It is also served with fried rice and a piece of lemon. You will also love their fried ice-cream. The inside toppings were crunchy and the inside was so soft. The top of it has a frosting. It's mouthwatering and so sweet. When it comes to their drinks I love their mango margarita. The mouth of the glass was filled with salt and its perfect for the margarita. I will be back here next Tuesday and order food for takeout after work. read more

Was craving Mexican food and stumbled on this via Yelp. Pictures looked good so why not? The decor is super cute, staff is friendly, and there is plenty of seating. They had a special for margaritas 8$, for tangerine, orange and lime mix- which i had and thoroughly enjoyed. We also had the supreme nachos, a little disappointed it didn't come with any type of protein on it, but the toppings were awesome- guac, queso, beans, cheese, red onion. YUM! So good. Second time was pretty awful; my order was taken incorrectly and when I tried to get the right order I think they over charged me to correct it, it almost felt like more trouble than it was worth. Moved to the south loop a few months ago, decided to give this place a try. We ordered pickup. 4 tacos, a burrito, 2 sides of rice and beans, and a side of sour cream. The food was supposed to be ready in 20 minutes, it took 40. When we got home we saw that we were missing rice and beans, sour cream, and we got 2 tacos made incorrectly. The food we received that was made correctly was just okay. If you want good Mexican food, I highly recommend going around the block to Flaco's Tacos.
