I was meeting a friend who was closer to the area and wanted to try a new place. Who doesn't love tacos?! If you do, this is a good place to go. Why the three stars? Along with a grilled veggies taco I ordered a veggie burrito, knowing a burrito would be more filling. The burrito COULD HAVE BEEN more filling yet I only ate half of it and not necessarily because it was delicious; I didn't want to waste food. My friend felt the same. We were disappointed. The burrito was bland compared to the taco that had a bit more spice and intention put into it. While talking with my friend there were little flies by our table. We had to sho them away. Perhaps finding a way to cover these salsa bar? Bathroom was clean. Staff was friendly. I'm not in South Loop often but I'd go back for tacos despite the average review. read more

The Taco Tuesday deal is pretty great I spend a little over 5 dollars for three well made tacos and access to a salsa bar for the chips. The service is pretty quick and the food is good value, I would recommend this place to a group or a couple of friends trying to grab a quick and casual dinner especially on the week days. read more

I ordered takeout at their counter. After looking at pending orders, she said "may be 15-20 minutes", I was there at 21 minutes. Waited till 45 minutes and asked them 3 times about my order.. every time, he or she would point to some packets on the counter and say "it is the next one". Finally, I said "just cancel my order". I am diabetic and I was going hypo (had taken pill before going there). The guy who was cancelling it, stopped the process and started taking another order over phone. Also, note that in those 25 minute wait, they only served 6 orders and those were just normal (not big) orders. They are not equipped to serve the current (low quantity) orders even with kitchen packed with 5 cooks and there are 4 guys at the counter. I won't go there again. It's up to you. read more

Usually come here for late night eats and it has never disappointed! With it being so close to the gym, it's always to go to move! The service is friendly and quick. They have a sauce bar there in the back so you can get creative! They have a good taco selection and some awesome deals on some nights. The shrimp and fish tacos are my go-to, as well s their elotes! They ask which taco shell you want and you can have it American or Mexican style so it's pretty customizable! The elotes size is great for sharing! The Paneer tacos has a creamy sauce and it's pretty tasty. The Beef taco is standard in my option. The Regular chicken taco is also pretty standard. The Specialty tacos are where it's at! The atmosphere was like an upscale Taco Bell (which is a compliment), you have to seat yourself and the staff will bring your food to the table. If you happen to be a salsa fanatic, like me - then you will LOVE this place! They have a self serve salsa bar, with various levels of heat. I ate here earlier in June when the COVID restrictions were still in place and really enjoyed my mahi mahi taco with corn tortilla. It was very fresh and nicely prepared. The employees had on masks and they had lots of pick up orders and dine in guests. Patrons were respectful and gave each other space which was appreciated. The only thing that made me rate them a 4 was they have ton of self serve salsa/sauces at the sauce bar. I couldn't use the sauces out of fear of the bar being tainted. So no salsa/sauce for me. A Mexican in Chicago for the weekend was homesick and needed some comida casera. We stumbled upon this humble restaurant that had amazing reviews and decided to give it a go... it was the most pleasant experience as service was superb! I've tried this place twice so far and surprisingly the food was way better with delivery instead of in the actual restaurant. That was odd because the place seems cool. With a dozen tables or so, an area to try a bunch of different salsas, and a cool vibe where you can see into part of the food prep area. I wanted to like this place, I have tried it twice. Both times the steak and chicken were dry. The meat taste like it's pre cooked and put on the grill to reheat as orders come in. And lastly the salsa bar is absolutely gross and not up to COVID standards. Then when you request the prepackaged salsa behind the counter, approval is needed from the manager and once he "approves", he is stingy only giving 3 sauces for 60 bucks worth of food. Weird. So, I only gave 2 stars because we do love the food. It would be 1 star otherwise. The last 2 or 3 times we've visited in person have been terrible for customer service. They will have you order from the QR code menus on the tables using Chow Now, which is a hassle if you aren't already signed up. I get having the option if they are busy, but they weren't busy either time they asked us to do this. We last went to Taco Maya over the weekend: they charged us for salsa we never received and never even started making my husband's michelada by the time our order was ready. Shouldn't drinks be made to be ready before the food? There were 4-5 people working, and at least 2 of them were just chatting. Maybe they were on a break, but it looked bad because everything was taking so long. We had the michelada refunded because it just wasn't worth it and didn't realize we never got the salsa we paid for until we got home. With so many fast casual Mexican options in the city, this one is a wonderful choice. The prices and food quality are just right. I got the shrimp enchiladas with rice, decried beans and salad. My husband got the beef fajitas with the same sides. Everything was well cooked and had amazing flavor. It was also actually spicy, which i find is rare for fast casual Mexican. They also have a salsa bar which is the perfect accompaniment to the food and let's you try different flavors. My favorite by far was the complimentary chips and salsa. The house made salsa was super flavorful and spicy. An overall perfect start to the meal. I'm excited to come back here for taco Tuesday and try this chicken habernaro taco.
