I remember getting the al pastor and steak tacos but the al pastor was very lackluster and the steak was too dry. On another occasion, I got their cemitas, which were pretty good too. I was amazed at these prices!! We got a high quantity of high quality Mexican food. We ordered the shrimp tostada, spicy pork taco, steak taco and the al pastor huraches. We also got the guac and chips and a corn! All this, plus a Sideral and bottled water, was under $30! We were stuffed when we left. It was all fresh and delicious. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants when I was a teen. But as I got older the food that delivered to me has become different. Majority of the food delivered to me looked microwaved, others looked, smelled and tasted old, rarely ever did it look good and was edible. Twice my family and I (mother and 2 year old daughter) have gotten food poisoning from this restaurant. The first time we weren't sure if it was their food, the second time we knew it was their food because during that day it was all we had to eat. I took my daughter to the emergency room two times and myself once. I was extremely weak one day out of that week of food poisoning; I couldn't move, it was hard to breathe, I had tunnel vision and it was slowly becoming dark. Thankfully my mother and daughter didn't experience this. Us 3 were vomiting for an entire week each time we had food poisoning. I have been frequenting this beloved, delightful and inviting place for over 3 years now. That means I have watched the little girl that usually takes my order grow up, I have eaten a trucks worth of enchiladas and I have drank cases of the verde Sidral Mundet. This place doesn't get any better, everything on the menu is fantastic, I have had it all. Their drink selection is amazing and they always have Telemundo on so I can catch up on my novelas, Mexican socialite gossip and the beautiful women. Now to the food..... Best thing on the menu - Al Pastor tostada ($2.25). For those of you that don't know what Al Pastor is, it is pork that is cooked in what I believe to be a chipotle sauce and then has pineapple tossed in.. Amazing. Best bang for the buck- Any of the tortas. These sandwiches are only $3.50 and come with the usual sandwich toppings but also avocado, beans, pickled jalapenos and if you're lucky enough you'll get a jalapeno pickled carrot in there too. Try the cesina (salted beef) torta. Something everyone should try- The chilaquiles ($5.00). Chilaquiles are fresh fried tortilla chips, simmered in either green or red sauce, then topped with your choice of chicken or beef and then topped again with cheese and crema...Guuuuuh... My advice, get the verde chilaquiles with chicken. Best drink- Verde Sidral Mundet. Sour apple soda. Just get it. I love this place. read more

The nachos are some of the best nachos I've ever had and they are only $5. That alone should convince you that Taco Santana is worth your time. However, this little hole in the wall Mexican joint is so much more. The tortas and tostadas are cooked to perfection, but the real gem here is the Santana Taco ($3.50). It's so much more taco than any other place I've been thus far in Williamsburg and pretty much the same price. Otherwise, the tacos are $2 a pop, which again, you cannot beat. Don't get cheap confused with low-quality, though. Their ingredients all taste super fresh. One last note. The 9(?) year old girl at the register (who is usually the only one in the restaurant who speaks English) takes your order with sass! I ordered the Milanese chicken torta. Which is a Mexican sandwich, it had the works, beans,cheese,mayo, lettuce and tomato, white onion. I opted out for the jalapenos. The taste was ok. I disliked the fact that the beans were cold and the taste was underwhelming. The best thing was the nice toasty bread. The price was also great.$4.50. I would recommend this place for a quick bite. There's the band "Santana," which is much overplayed. There's Tony Santa, the former cocaine king of Miami who always wanted you to say hello to his little friend (kinda pervy). Then there's Taco Santana, whose chicken tinga tacos are the world's most serious threat to vegetarianism. Seriously. When the Food Network does the "Best Thing I Ever Ate: Chicken Tacos" episode, they'll need to cram all the chefs into this hole in the wall because there would be no competition... and this is coming from someone who's crossed our southern border 30+ times. Who'd have thunk that some seriously great tacos are being cranked out under a train in a semi-derelict corner of Hasidic Williamsburg? For those who don't know, tinga is basically meat slow cooked in a tomato-chipotle sauce, so unlike the quick grilled chewy charred meat in most tacos, this is more like a grandma's stew, eaten with a tortilla. And at Taco Santana, this is cooked by an actual grandma and she packs in more heat that the above mentioned Tony. Literally... you'll find the charred remains of smoked jalapenos in and amongst the fall-apart chicken. I also enjoyed the El Pastor taco - well above average - and the carne asada was simply decent. It's a total dive with only 3 tables and a steady stream of customers so it ain't a place to propose to your future ex. And I held off a star because they can also be slow... grandma cooks one order at a time, in order, when she's ready - damn you New Yorkers. But they might earn it back if they deliver on future visits. Honestly, if I were on death row and had to choose between a steak from Peter Luger further down the street or a couple of tinga tacos... This place, gets it done every-time. Definantly one of my 5 favorite taco shacks in New York City. For $2.25, you get your taco super...can't beat that. The carnitas was a standout. Holy mackerel. This place is LEGIT. Got delivery from here and everything was fresh as a daisy and damned delicious. As 4th of July was heading into full swing, my friends and I found ourselves at the expense of a particularly heavy-duty July 3rd birthday celebration. Especially myself... Memo: never bring red wine and Espolon Tequila to Panna II, it will not end well. So, before I could find the strength to head to what ended up being a very fun but very hot rooftop party, I incessantly informed everyone for my need to at least eat a slice of pizza before we went. My roommates were already three shots of Jameson and a beer each deep, and quite frankly just watching them do that made me more hungover. So, as what could only be described as a glorious favor from a higher power, we ended up walking right past Taco Santana. I think I loved it so much, not because it was exceptionally good, but because it reminded me of the Mexican taquerias in my old college town. Nothing fancy, just some tables and the smallest hint of AC. But, alas, I was in all my glory. Upon sitting down, the two women working there said they don't serve beer but we were welcome to go grab a six-pack from the deli and bring it back. My roommate Milo ran to grab Coronas, the lady brought us some limes, and we ordered up a feast. The most expensive thing on the menu is like $6. My other roommate Angelina ordered chips and guac, maybe just for herself but it was all hands on deck as soon as they hit the table. The chips were obviously made in-house. That sounds fancier than I wanted it to, but they were just obviously freshly fried. The guacamole was really good too, lots of onion and lime. I ordered a steak tostada, and a steak taco and a shrimp taco. My whole meal was $8.25. The beef admittedly was a little low-quality. But everything else was really good, the shrimp was really good. The portions are also huge and despite the beef, the rest of the taco was great and they make a bangin' tostada. They've also got some of their own hot sauce in a squeeze bottle (you can see it all over everything below), I highly recommend it. So, what I really wanted to write most about was the Santana taco that everyone but myself got. It's the second to last image below. I'd describe it as a love-child of a taco and a burrito maybe. It was just stuffed with a ton of extra ingredients; lots of cheese, lettuce, sour cream, jalapeno, and more. They looked so good and next time I go I'll for sure order. So all in all, I loved Taco Santana simply for the happy, homey experience it provided me before I had to head back into the madness that is a party-day in New York City. read more

I am beyond confused by Yelp and non Yelpers. In who's mind was this a good suggestion? Order (Take Out) burrito and 4 tacos. Burrito had old mushy rice (tossed in the trash after one awful bite). Steak taco was tough and unflavored. Chorizo taco was tough but on the plus side tasted ok. Fish taco tasted super fishy (if you know fish it should not taste like that). Pork taco, only plus was the pineapple as it was the toughest of them all. Overall I think I may need a break from Yelp and all the false hype. Williamsburg is lacking a great Mexican restaurant. Food is worth 5 stars. I went tonight (Friday night) and they were a little crowded. The nice lady who took our order got our order wrong and we had to wait longer than expected. If our order wasn't wrong and the wait wasn't so long I would've given 5 stars. The food: Mmmmmmmm, delicious! The shrimp taco was very tasty and I loved the avocado with it! Hot Dang this place is the real deal, just peer at the people behind the counter and you to will think your eating authentic food that only a mexican grandma would make. Tacos are perfectly old school with just mouth watering flesh, onions, and cilantro on freshly made soft taco shells. Sopa's had pork so succulent I wouldn't think twice of capturing that pig from and even using charlottes web as a net, bringing him here for dinner. Chicken Quesadilla is my favorite by far though, fresh with I'm assuming chihuahua cheese and they do this weird sauce thing that gives it a far better kick than any I've ever had in the city. I can't recommend this spot enough - it's hard to Mexican this authentic in the city and not since I lived in Chicago have I had something taste this authentic in NYC.
