Food was fair at best. Ordered takeout, including a Carne Asada, Taco dinner and kids meals. What we got - NOT Carne Asada, maybe a very overcooked skirt steak? with rice and beans. Tacos didn't hold up in the corn tortillas. Kids meals - we wanted a burger, but they didn't have any, so we opted for chicken nuggets that ended up being chewy and hard. Taqueria Maya is a neighborhood spot in a strip mall. We were trying to get some fresh authentic Mexican food and decided to give it a try. Bright and neutral at the same time. We were told they did some updating when I commented to our server that I liked the colors. Service was friendly and the food came out quickly. Chips and salsa are complimentary and good! Stopped by here last week; craving tacos and wanted some to go. I ordered the three taco dinner which comes with refried beans and rice, and also ordered a large guacamole. The gentleman who took my order was nice, chatting with me while I waited for my food, which was cooked fast and hot right behind the counter in under 3 minutes!! I was so impressed that when I got home nearly 10 minutes later my tacos were still hot! I had ground beef tacos which were topped w cilantro and onions, and served with a side of salsa. Wow - in my first review of Taqueria Maya I was a little constructive in my criticism. I'm not sure what they did to change but wow. This has got to be the absolute best Mexican food in the area now. Six of us went for dinner. As I said in my earlier review, they still do a great take-out business. The interior is the same, which I complimented them on before. And, I also said their service was good last time. They have upped their game significantly. First, they finally (finally) got their liquor license. They have a nice, albeit small, bar with a good selection of Tequilas. We all orders margaritas and they were really good. They have these really cool curved glasses which I did capture a picture of. My parents have told me to check out this locally owned taqueria several times,so, I finally did! Due to the pandemic it was take-out only or outside seating so take-out it was! I placed my order online through a third party site which was easy to access. Then, someone from the Restaurant called me to let me know that they didn't have agua de Jamaica At this time but offered to switch my drink, so I went with agua de orchata which was perfectly fresh & flavorful. I ordered the chicken taco salad and really appreciated the way it was arranged because it prevented the Shell to get soggy! It tasted very fresh and would definitely get it again. We also ordered the Chilaquiles verdes which were surprisingly really good! Not many places can make these quite as good! This seems like a family run restaurant, and our server was very nice and friendly. As soon as we sat down, she brought chips and salsa to our table. Then she made some green salsa for us, so we had both red and green salsa. The menu is quite extensive, and I decided to order the chicken fajitas plate that came with rice and beans. I had my choice of corn or flour tortillas, and I chose corn. They came out piping hot, and my dinner was served on a ginormous plate. I liked how soft and fresh the tortillas were. I'm a big eater, but I could only finish about half my food, so I took the rest to go. Score! Got two meals for $11, haha. When our server found out it was our first time dining there, she gave us a coupon for a buy one get one free entree. So nice. We came on a weekday a few weeks ago, and aside from a wrapping up large group in the main room, there was hardly anyone there. We ordered the Skirt Steak and the Chiles Rellenos. Neither of these stood out, and the steak should never be confused with Carne Tampiqueña, as this one is a roundish pounded piece of meat with little flavor. The accompanied rice and beans were ordinary. Good salsas, however. No fountain beverages, just cans and all the Mexican sodas and the usual beers. Service was perfunctory; perhaps we would have fared better if were friends of the owner, as the table that came in after us appeared to be. Let me start off by saying this place has amazing piña coladas! It's probably the best piña colada I've had; super fresh pineapple taste and perfectly sweet. I went this place for lunch at 11:30 on weekday. There were 3-4 groups already. I ordered burrito with shredded beef. They at first serve chips with salsa which was nice ! And their staff was kind that he brought extra salsa once I used all. The burrito was huge and packed with plenty of flavorful steak and guac. However, there was enough lettuce in there to feed a family of hungry rabbits... I moved out here almost ten years ago from San Diego (yes, I did that). If you know anything about San Diego, people there have a superiority complex about their Mexican food. I do too. After moving here, for years, friends have suggested Mexican places to try in the Chicagoland area. Almost all of them were generic, and generally mediocre at best. I pretty much stopped eating Mexican food after spending my entire life previously eating it at least one or twice a week. My family decided to give Taqueria Maya a try after driving by a few times. I was blown away. This is definitely the best Mexican food in the area. I couldn't believe how good it was. The al pastor tacos were excellent, and they sold carne asada fries! Carne asada fries are a staple of San Diego Mexican food, and Taqueria Maya made it almost identical to what they serve there. This is the only place outside of San Diego that I've seen do this. We ordered two burritos during the quarantine, and they were open for pickup. They were ready on time, and pickup was very easy. They are located nearby harper, across from the cemetery in the same complex as the daycare. Our burritos were pretty large, and the green sauce in the container was good. I have a feeling they would be better dine-in, but that's the world we live in now, so it's a decent option for mexican food in the area. The burritos have guacamole in them, which I personally dislike but I know others may enjoy, so that is worth noting. Overall, I think this was a pretty decent burrito. read more
