The place has some bar seating, high boy tables and regular tables, as well as some varied art and several TVs (one of which was on the wall right above our merged tables and I asked if the staffer could mute it since we were talking work, and he quickly obliged). Received a warm welcome and friendly service. Seemed as if there was only one person working in the whole place, but our food came out fairly quickly and nice and fresh. Folks got a variety of dishes but it seemed like tacos were the favorite. I got a taco plate with two carne asada street style tacos and a fish taco with refried beans and rice. (They really put the beer in the beer-battered cod!) The plates all came out with two small containers of salsa, one green and a hotter red. I also asked for chips and salsa and we were brought two boats for our table of eight. That was a third type of salsa, which was a tasty medium red. All in all, a pleasant experience. They would do much better with at least one server taking orders. The young lady who took my order last night was very "green" and needs a little brush-up on customer service. Have not been here since the new ownership maybe a year ago? They were more fresh-mex before and now they are more taqueria style. I ordered the chicken chimichanga $8.50 and the shrimp taco for $4.50 to go. Was going to get the 3 taco combo but it did not include the shrimp option. He said I could get ala cart and it was on a bigger tortilla. Much to my shock, it is a standard street taco size. It had onions and bell peppers. I liked it but it was horribly greasy. The Chimi was also very greasy but you expect it be somewhat. It was a tad overdone but inside was good. I really liked their red and green sauce that added a lot of flavor. So I ding a star for price... a smidge on the high side and they charge .35 to use a card. And I have never had such greasy mexican food in my life. I went through plenty of napkins!! She was great; wonderful smile and attitude. On a crazy hot summer day, the AC was cranking and was a comfortable cool temp inside. They have 4 TVs playing, all on different channels. Nice. When hubs was watching sports, me and another patron was watching Fast n the Furious something. Modern, eclectic interior. The $1.99 special of the day was a potato taco with a crispy fried shell. I've never had a potato taco so I ordered one. Yum! The shell was fried perfectly, no greasy mess. The potatoes were delicious, thick pieces with a creamy melt in your mouth taste. Delicious! They have tacos obviously, burritos and quesadillas, loaded fries and a few specials they put out. We got some tacos asada and pollo. I came here from San Jose to do some training at my new job, I guess my standards for good Mexican food are too high (in comparison with the other reviews) The food was HORRIBLE!!!, the tacos the lengua and birria are uneaten, the meat was sticky hard and not eatable at all. We came here yesterday because we wanted to go out for taco tuesday but didn't want to deal with the long wait times and crowded taco spots in downtown sac. I thoroughly read the reviews and it looked like this place had really improved over the last year and a half so I thought we'd give it a shot. Our first warning side was that the place was completely empty and remained empty for the 1.5 hrs we were there. When we pulled up to the store, they had a "$3 beer" sign out front and margarita glasses behind the counter, so we went in and asked to get some drinks with our food (what's a taco tuesday without margaritas). The woman behind the counter explained to us that they were under new management and still didn't have their liquor license so they couldn't sell us any alcohol. In hindsight, we should have just left right then. So we ordered our tacos without drinks and settled for a very lackluster taco tuesday deal which was buy 3 tacos, get 1 free (it still ended up costing me over $10 for my 4 tacos). I ordered 2 chicken tacos and 2 steak tacos. And I've had a lot of sketchy food in my life, but this chicken was HORRIBLE. It looked like it had been hacked into pieces and the texture was very concerning and gross. The meat tacos were ok- clearly not good quality beef and kind of salty. The chips were also very low quality and the salsa lacked any other flavor besides pure spice. The only reason I am giving 2 starts instead of 1 is because the server was very nice despite the fact that this place sucked. And they had huge signs outside advertising beer and margaritas....but they don't have a liquor license yet. So even though they had pint and drink glasses all over, behind their bar, we had to forego booze. TRAGIC, I know. I have seen this place the numerous times I have gotten off the westbound hwy off Reed. I had decided I would give this place a try (finally). I think the part that I disliked was the fact it was super hot in there and I am not sure they are privy to use their AC as there are fans everywhere. They had baseball playing which of course made me happy being a baseball fan. The food did not disappoint and for 9.99$ you can get a whole meal which includes beans OR rice and three tacos with a drink- that is a pretty good deal considering some of the other ones out there. If I could give this place negative starts I would. I ate at this spot in west Sacramento an insane amount of times. This use to be my favorite place to eat out at until the other night when I ordered DoorDash and as I was finishing my taco plate noticed something small and black in my beans. I didn't think too much of it, thought it might just be burnt rice or something only to turn my flashlight on for a closer look and find a roach in my food. I did not care for the enchiladas here, they were dry and flavorless. The beans and rice matched this energy, they were flavorless. I was also disappointed with the salsas here, they were very watery and I only enjoyed the verde one. Overall if you are craving some tacos, this is a decent spot. No water cups.. last few times they have messed up our order and we still came back because the food was good but after today we won't be back nor will we tell anyone else to come here.. the owner is cool.. too bad he wasn't here today..
