When I first discovered this spot, I was coming in weekly--I was genuinely obsessed. If I can give this restaurant 0 stars I would. We wanted to give a new spot a try and oh do we regret it. Food was so bland and nothing authentic to it. Salsa seemed like it was poured from a Costco jar and when asking for more chips they said we couldn't unless we paid extra. Mind you it was a group of 5 people (that btw all paid individually) and was still given a really small bowl of chips. We will not be coming back and will not recommend this place. read more

They are open. I don't know who said they are closed... but I'm glad I didn't listen to them. I saw people going in and out. I'm glad I didn't leave the parking lot. Okay, I need to apologize to all the Mexican restaurants I have four and five stars to because after eating at "Molcajetes Apatzingan" you are now all three star restaurants! This place raised the bar by two stars easy. They make their own home made corn tortillas that made this flour tortilla guy switch to all corn from now on! Service is great, family owned and operated and their daughter Corrina was amazing and helped these two white people understand their dishes with very Mexican names! I got steak fajitas and my wife got carne asada. Let me start there. Both dishes were sublime. Nobody comes close to the quality of this places food. My wife then had to try a chicken taco and I had a bite. Crazy tender and juicy is all I can say. The ambiance is not what El Naviello is but nobody is. It's an extremely well hidden gem between 47th and Fruitridge on Franklin blvd. No matter what you get make sure you get their corn tortillas! We can't wait to go back! We bought like $120+ worth of food to eat there, they gave us a tiny bowl of chips and like one individual salsa container, no napkins, the tables and chairs were dusty. Molcajetes Apatzingan! So I've never been more south than Pacifica. But I can imagine that if this is what people cook, I'll never leave Mexico. Only place I've seen enchiladas apatzingan style in Sacramento. It's a dry rubbed enchilada. Super tasty. The rest of the menu is just as unique. This is a small authentic Mexican styled eatery. Clean and tasty. The staff is super nice. A hole in the wall is a necessity for anyone into finding under appreciated Mexican food. Grab a beer there while you eat or wait for your take out. Been twice. Once I had the michoacan estilo enchiladas, which were great. It was basically some griddled homemade tortillas with sauce and crunchy cabbage on top and two meats, both of which were awesome, especially the grilled chicken. Not what one normally thinks of as enchilada, but that's the michoacan estilo part. Homie had tacos, made better by fresh homemade tortillas. Next time we went, I got molcajete mixto, which is the cauldron of awesome (meats, cheese, cactus and saaaauuuuce) and then I made tacos out of it with the homemade tortillas. Homie had huevos rancheros which came with scrambled eggs, not my fave except they were the fluffiest smoothest damn scrambled eggs I have seen since my grandfather died. My grandfather made awesome scrambled eggs. I don't know if they always make them scrambled or if they always do it that well, but it was impressive. They also get points because their refried beans seem to be homemade. Not super cheap cause I was getting all the especial stuff, but aside from that, they have the usual taqueria fare at typical prices. Homie said the pastor was good. read more

The place looks like and feels like some hole in the wall place somewhere in Michoacan, well, because it's a place for Michoacanos, except it's in south Sacramento. Mexican polka blaring in the background. Futbol on TV. And, if you are not a Michoacana or Michoacano, you are the turista when you are at this joint. We've been here several times. So far we've only ordered the molcajete, as we can't get ourselves to order anything else be we so love their molcajete. Thick. Rich. Savory. Yum. It comes with a side of tortillas, which are hand made right before they are served steaming hot. Maybe hand made corn tortillas are no big for some people, but for us they were a revelation. We've never had them like that. It's like Mexican grandma love in the form of a tortilla. One order of the molcajete is enough for two, especially if you get a side of rice and beans. This restaurant is actually called Molcajetes Apatzingan; it's the same restaurant menu with just a different name. It is easy to miss as you are driving by, so keep an eye out for the sign for Plaza Zacatecas. The staff here was really nice, and the food is delicious and plentiful for the cost. I got their specialty enchiladas, which were not really like enchiladas. I don't actually like enchiladas, but I ordered this dish because everyone on yelp said to do so. I suppose you could call it a deconstructed enchilada. The tortillas were folded in half at the bottom of the plate and covered in red sauce. On top of that was sauce, cabbage, and cheese, and on top of that was your choice of meat. I ordered the chicken, which came on the bone and was very tender, and the Freid dried beef, which was similar to beef jerky. I was glad I ordered the dried beef just to try it, but I don't think I would order it again. It was a little too dry and, I felt, didn't melt with the rest of the dish. But everything was really delicious. My only complaint was that it took a while to get the bill, and we were there with three 5-year-olds, and they were getting very antsy. read more

House made chips come with a watery salsa and a plate of refried beans with a cotija topping. The ambiance was less than thrilling, burritos large and filled with meat and agua frescas delicious and plentiful; melon, fresa or horchata. They have a nice patio and outside bathroom. She didnt bring us any chips, i ordered a chicken quesilldia and it was more tortilla then cheese and chicken and was so dry. The tacos had more onion than meat. This place is worth a visit. We gave it a shot for breakfast one day, the best parts of which were some delicious salsa on the huevos and tasty Cantaloupe agua fresca.
