I loved this restaurant! The Mexican decor is very cute! It's out in West Sac, close by the rivercats stadium. I've lived in sac my whole life and never knew it existed because it's in a spot of town that isn't downtown or midtown. The service was great, I felt like the waiter was very personable and helpful! Our experience at this restaurant was just okay. Unfortunately, the service on the outdoor patio was lacking. Our server forgot our drinks, and when my Margarita arrived, it was much too strong for my taste. When I mentioned it, I was told that most guests prefer their Margaritas that way. While I appreciate the insight, it would have been better if they had asked about my preference beforehand. The replacement Margarita was better but still not great. Service overall felt minimal--I had to go inside both to request to-go containers and again to pay the bill, which was inconvenient. Given these issues, I feel that a three-star rating is somewhat generous. I hope they can improve their service, as the atmosphere has potential. read more

It is my second visit here during lunch time. We had a party of 4. Arrived at 11:30am and was seated promptly. Parking was easy in their small parking lot. Restaurant filled up quickly during the lunch hour. The decor is colorful and made me feel like I was in Mexico. The staff is friendly and attentive. The charge for chips and salsa. Sal's is one of my top 3 favorite taco spots in West Sacramento. Their chips and salsa are so addicting. The crispy taco plates are usually my go to here. The menu has changed since the last time we were here. It's a larger menu now with more variety. We started with the frijoles dip(bean dip). It was really good. It was stringy with cheese. It came with non spicy red and green salsa. I liked the flavor of the green one more. They even refilled the bowl of chips. We also split the plate of street tacos. I liked the steak/asada tacos best. With their new menu I recommend eating here. It was a little chilly as the door kept opening and closing and it's a small place. We were 2 booths from the door. I tried to go there for dinner for 5 de mayo and I had to wait 10 min before any one acknowledged me. I asked the waiter if I can sit outside since we had our dog with us, they said yes we sat on the benches, no one ever came to bring us the menus after 15 min so we left. read more

Food was good and the location is close to home. Sitting outside is a whole vibe especially during the summer. My mother and I really enjoyed our meals. The rice and beans were on point and that is always a hallmark on whether or not a Mexican restaurant is good. Chips and salsa is not included here so we paid $3.50 for some. Finished the first basket before the food came and so the waiter asked if we'd like more. Of course we said yes and that was that. Food came and it was really good. Mom got the Día de muertos combo which is a chicken enchilada and a chile relleno with rice and beans. I got the carnitas burrito, it was huge and stuffed with rice and beans only. We left stuffed and my mom even boxed up half her meal to go. Bill comes and we were surprised to see the chips and salsa was on there twice. Now I understand we got two servings but I guess I was naive to think the second basket would be complimentary. Overall the bill came out to just under $40, with no sodas or alcohol. There were two male servers working the floor and provided excellent service! I ordered the chili verde and my spouse ordered chili colorado. Excellent chips and salsa that arrived quickly, and our meals were plentiful and delicious. I will absolutely return and not let so many years go by before visiting again. It still has the mosaic artwork on the walls that I recalled. The papel picado and a beautiful catrina statue was new to me. The decor inside and out is just as fresh and bright as it has always been. Sadly, the salsa bar is no more, a victim of the pandemic. That's OK, the food was off the chain. Much better than the last time I was here. The menu is very large. I decided to go basic with the chicken enchiladas and the Chile relleno.. The plate was humongous! The enchiladas were tender, as well as the chicken, and it tasted delicious. The Chile relleno was not over fried, not greasy, and it also tasted very good. The green sauce with the enchilada and the red sauce on top of the Relleno had a lot of flavor. The rice was tender, and the beans had a lot of flavor I walked out stuffed. Came to Sal's Tacos on our trip to West Sac for the week. It was just 4 minutes from our airbnb and the decor and huge TACOS sign really reeled us in. We got the taco plate to share and it was AMAZINGG! The food is delicious and the staff was super nice and helpful as well. We are looking for some authentic mexican food and we found this in west sac. The place is great you will really feel like you are in mexico. Very colorful place. They serve fast and I love the crispy tacos more than the soft shell tacos. We ordered a lemonade but its a Big No for us. It doesn't taste good and it has an after taste to it. I'm being generous because I hate leaving bad reviews. It's hard for small businesses to overcome them. But here it's clear that nobody cares about the reviews. Or the flies. Or the lack of air conditioning. Or the taste. It likely has the name location going for it. As for the food. Can't get past it.
