Came for the Birria, but they said they sold out at lunch. If they would have told us at the door, we would have left. So our dinner started out on the wrong foot. Their menu has shrunk. Margarita was tasty, but did not have much alcohol. Chicken in the tacos needed seasoning. They call one jalapeño slice cowboy candy. Pretty expensive for just an okay experience. There were no prices on the menu which I really did not think about at first. The ticket is not printed out so there was no way to check what you were charged. My family and I went here after passing by and seeing the sign outside, we were on our way to ironclad brewery but stopped in for a bite. We are more than happy to have done so, being Mexican most places disappoint but this place was amazing. We ordered a steak bowl, as soon I tried it I knew the beans were cook fresh and the seasoning on the meat was great. The staff was entertaining and we got to talk to the cook to see if he had a Latino background or how he had all the flavors on point. He gave us a sample of the birria and that too was delicious. Loved everything about this place. Stopped in at lunchtime in the middle of the week and it wasn't busy but there were definitely other patrons. Drinks and food were out quickly and everything was fresh. Skylar was so personable, got to chat with her a bit and even helped with adding some Halloween pillows to the ambiance. I felt like we could be friends in real life. Anyway...I don't even like hush puppies but these were so good with the dip it comes with. Took advantage of the lunch special. I can't say enough about Tacobaby. The husband and wife team owner-operators are AWESOME. My wife and I love this place so much we decided to order a bunch of food from them for pickup to feed our friends during a party. Everyone LOVED the food, we had plenty of leftovers, and it was all ready to pickup when I drove by Tacobaby. Also, they threw in extras, which was so awesome...at least until I found myself on the couch eating 5 Churros at 11:30 PM later that evening. It was a nice place, very clean but maaannnnnnn the food! First off we were expecting salsa and chips at the table but they had to be ordered. The salsa was bland unseasoned with out even using salt. Using tomatoes to season there water with a single stem of cilantro. "Salsa" Second when I asked if they sold horchata the waitress looked at me with zero recognition of what it is. A very common Mexican drink. So decided to order waters and were given water bottles instead, no glasses or anything. The Carnesada tacos were bland and dry relying on the cilantro and onions for seasoning. Possibly the worse crime was the fact that the tortillas weren't even heated up causing it to crumble and as soon as we bent it. We resorted to eating are crumbled uncooked tortillas as chips to dip them in are tomato water. This wouldn't be as bad if they served things other than tacos! My daughter order the quesadilla and the cooks must have googled Mexican ingredients and tossed them in between two flour tortillas. Why was there corn in it?!?!? After a night of drinking we wondering over to TacoBaby for some food and our final bevys. The inside is super cute and you can clearly see that the owner has a love for Dolly Parton. We sat in the upstairs area and each started with a variation of margaritas which everyone enjoyed theirs (mine was spicy and delicious). Then we got some queso and chips before our tacos arrived. I got Chicken and my husband got the carne asada. The tacos were good but as others said a little overpriced. Wow. First of all, despite the name, you do not actually have to be a baby to eat here. A relief finding that out once I arrived. After all, babies can't enjoy palomas or margaritas. This is the first and only time I'll go to TacoBaby. Walking in your hit with a mashup theme of a foliage wall to your left and a comic strip or 3 panels that repeat up the entire right wall, neon signs and a GIANT portrait of Dolly Parton hanging above the door. Service was mediocre at best, we were served water once but had to serve our party ourself afterwards because our server never came back to check on our drinks AND one of our party only ordered appetizers and only 1 showed up before the rest of our meal and was told the second would be comped if it took to long. Surprise surprises the second appetizer showed up as we're ready to leave and when the checks are split she was charged for both and tried to tell us we didn't hear her say it would be comped. Finally the cost, honestly isn't worth it. If I wanted to spend almost $60 on lunch and get satisfied I would go somewhere else. Went to taco baby over the weekend for the first time. The people working there were nice and helpful. Ended up ordering the pork tacos and plantains. Pork tacos had great toppings and sauce. The birria sauce was not like any other birria I've had it was extremely rich and a bit too much for me and a much different flavor profile than typical birria. The shrimp was insanely good, same for the cauliflower. For 3 orders of tacos and 1 sampler plate of chips guac and queso. It was about $70 not too bad for what it was. I probably wouldn't come back in all honesty, great service but the food is eh compared to other taquerias in Wilmington. read more

Went in with a few of my friends last night because we really wanted to try the sweet potato tacos that were listed on the menu in the pictures. I love this spot. The inside is quaint and cute. When you walk in it's counter service - I like that the food and drink menu are posted huge on the wall and they also have paper versions so you can look while waiting in line - the guy at the counter Greg was so nice and informative he helped me decide on the corn and flour blend tortilla (so good) and the beef and chorizo blend tacos (my favorite) and I also got the sampler of dips! Which was a small version of a couple diff salsas and a queso and quac! Drinks were cool, they're served in plastic cups but still taste like top dollar cocktails. I had a tequila cocktail (I forgot which one) and then I went back and had a can of wine which was neat to sip on for after dinner conversation! After discovering on Instagram a few weeks ago, I was highly anticipating trying Tacobaby. However, I left highly disappointed. First of all, we ordered the street corn appetizer that came out in what you would think is a portion for a sauce on the side, and was as cold as something that has been sitting in the fridge for days. I ordered the grouper tacos as a bowl which was a $3 up charge , which had a very underwhelming amount of rice and beans for what was supposed to be $3 worth of food. It also failed to mention that the grouper was deep fried, leaving a very very thick layer of breading, which I cannot eat. Overall, highly overpriced for what you get. Also, I think the choice of a Havana newspaper to display your food in is a bit insensitive. As a Cuban myself, I find it to be inaccurate of the culture and food. read more

Our first visit.....definitely not our last!!! My husband and I stopped in today for brunch with our dog in tow. Since we had her with us we sat outside which was really nice since there was a cool breeze and plenty of shade from the neighboring trees. Next time we will visit without her so we can dine inside as it was super cute!! Since it was our first visit we decided to try a little of everything and what a great decision. We started with the chorizo tacos!! Let me say I'm not a huge fan of chorizo but these were AMAZING. They were not greasy and the taste was delicious. Second we had the "chickey nuggie on a pancakie", I hope I got that right lol. Such an awesome spin on chicken and pancakes!! I could have eaten more than just the one! The chicken was fried perfect and topped with bacon and a maple glaze served over some of the best pancakes ever! Definitely will have again. Third was the bacon burrito which was stuffed with eggs, beans, potatoes and bacon. Wow!! Very filling and the flavors went well together. Last we had the frozen margaritas which were Heaven!! Ok, we may have had more than one!!! We also left with a tshirt because you have to support local businesses. The owner greeted and personally waited on us and several other patrons. I love that personal touch and being made to feel a little extra special is a nice bonus. He even cleared our table which was really sweet as we could have brought our dishes inside ourselves with no issue. Just a very nice atmosphere and some of the friendliest people around!!! Been wanting to try this place since it opened and finally got to try it yesterday and it did not disappoint. I knew they had a new brunch menu and that's what I went for because I'm a simple man who loves anything breakfast. Simple, quick ordering, small menu with enough options to satisfy everyone's tastes but not overwhelm you with decisions. Plenty of drink options from your liquor and The Claw, to water and good ole American Coca Cola Classic. Service was Johnny on the spot and I was served two excellent Chickie Nuggies in Pancakies, drizzled with syrup and fried to perfection. The pancake as a taco shell works and is just the right size for hand held edibles and the bacon that adorns the top was cooked to perfection. Got to meet the new owner while my fiancé and I were there and you can tell he's hands on with the business and not some jerk who sits back and counts money or rules over his staff from on high. He told us about some new improvements coming to the place that I feel are only going to make this place shine brighter. Cool atmosphere, great food, friendly service, I don't know what else you could want in a restaurant. I'm going back soon to try that dinner menu. Chorizo nachos have my name on them. read more
