Came here because of a Reddit comment. Unfortunately, this establishment served me the worst tacos I've had in my life. The fish and shrimp tacos had literally no flavor, felt like eating an empty tortilla. The chicken tasted OLD. Had to throw it away. The beef also lacked a lot of flavor and so did the guacamole. This place is incredibly good! I have absolutely been sleeping on it. Amazing prices, the flavors are very authentic, and they even had a models special when we went! It's a small restaurant with two bar areas to sit, and one or two separate non-bar tables. There is also a big menu on the wall as well with some specials. I went with several friends who all ordered different items- various tacos and the taco bowls. Everything was sooooo tasty and fresh! My friends and I have come here a handful of times in the past year and a half, and it is our absolute favorite spot in Wilmington. Ordered delivery from Capricho thru Uber Eats last night since I was consuming adult beverages at home and was doing the "responsible" thing by not driving. I've ordered Capricho before and thought the meal was very good so I re-ordered the same items again for a second round, in order to document this review. FOOD: Elotes (Mexican street corn), cheese quesadilla, chips and queso and a grilled chicken burrito with lettuce, rice, black beans, fresh jalapeno, queso fresca, salsa and chopped onion. The elotes was for my wife and she said it was very good. When asked how it compared to her favorite, she stated it wasn't as good due to it being very sweet but she still enjoyed it. Our son's quesadilla was just as it's made south of the border and is simple. The cheese blend was plentiful and the tortillas were soft. The side of creamy chili powder dip wasn't bad at all but since it's served very cold, even I preferred the quesadilla without it, once I took a small bite. My burrito was large...very large. It was wrapped neatly in foil and was hot once I sliced into it. The ingredients were very fresh and savory but this burrito was also bland. I was expecting some spice, heat or kick with each bite but there was none. After I added some Valentina hot sauce on top of each bite, the true flavors of the ingredients finally shined. The best summary I can say about this burrito would be this...it's an X-large burrito from Chipotle, when Chipotle is on their game 100% (which is very rare). It was good, just not great. I appreciate how fresh the ingredients were. If I ordered this again, I would order it with cheddar jack cheese, extra jalapeno and no rice inside. There was such a large rice-to-chicken ratio, that the chicken got lost inside with many bites. The star of the night are their multi-colored chips and queso cheese dip. Both were fantastic but there's something about the seasoning dusting on the chips that make them incredible. Quite possibly, my favorite tortilla chips in town now. SCORE: 3.8 STARS!! SERVICE: Used Uber Eats and was delivered to my door 15 mins earlier than advised. All food was hot, properly packaged and nicely presented for delivery. SCORE: 5 STARS!! OVERALL SCORE: It's tasty, fresh and portionally pleasing. With some heat / spice modifications to the burrito, quesadilla dipping sauce and maybe finding a way to char-grill the corn over an open flame for the elotes, this could be seriously great food. I wanted to love this! The reviews looked good. Born and raised in Texas I'm always on the search for some good authentic street Mexican food. However, the food was not what I expected. I ordered a build your own burrito with carne asada. The burrito was a good size but it was mainly rice and guacamole with only a few tiny pieces of carne asada. The taste was good it was just missing the meat (the best part). The street corn was good but the cheese overpowered the whole experience. I want to give this place another try with another menu item so I can find something that I love that others on yelp have found. Just beware of building your own burrito. read more

Small little place with great Mexican Street Food. Order carnitas tacos (single order comes with 2), barbacoa tacos (single order comes with 2), 2 elotes (street corn), beef empanadas (order comes with 2), chicken tamales (order comes with 2), and 2 orders of sweet fried plantains. Everything was very tasty, especially the barbacoa tacos which come with pineapple salsa on each taco. The beef empanadas were also especially good. Total for everything was $28. It was more than enough for wife and I for dinner, and even had a taco and tamale left over for lunch the next day. Will definitely be back, especially for the barbacoa tacos and empanadas. Currently only doing take out, and excepting cash only. The food was really good. Great find!!! We were pretty skeptical about going here, small store front looking place. I think the menu on the wall just through us off because all of the items were explained authentically, and we just had no idea what to pick. We actually came in and left for a place we'd already been to see it was closed which brought us back to Capricho and I'm glad it did! My bf had a burrito which was awesome, the meat was sooo good. I had a pork tamale which is the best tamale I've had outside TX. Serving portions were on point and we also had unlimited chips and salsa!!! I accepted the request to pick up an order from here as I was dropping off another order close by. It was hard to find this restaurant due to the fact that I've never been here before and it was dark (guessing I arrived after closing time). I was greeted with an unhappy face. I've worked in the restaurant industry for 10 years so I know what it's like to be closing down and having to wait on a customer to come pick up something/finishing eating, it seems inconvenient. However, I would still ask the customer how they are doing and tell them to have a good night. The man at the door did not even attempt to speak. He handed me the order and closed the door and locked it. If that's how you're going to treat Uber and DoorDash employees or any customer for that matter, please don't accept orders close to closing time. I'm an easy person to please and it takes a lot to upset me and/or write a negative review. read more

Capricho is our go-to Mexican food place in Wilmington. My wife tends to go with veggie tacos, I've tried much of their menu. The carne asada is always flavorful, veracruz fish tacos are fantastic, really we've never gone wrong. We also really enjoy the chips and salsa, and a beer or two goes well with everything. Nice little spot within walking distance to everything great in historic downtown Wilmington. They brand themselves as a street food stop but they go further than street food with their service and bites to eat. Prices are fair and the food is always made super fresh right when you order. It's somewhat of a small hole in the wall but they weren't busy when we arrived so seating wasn't an issue. The fried plantains had a great yogurt dipping sauce. The street corn was on point too. I got the special chorizo bowl that had scrambled eggs mixed in and my wife went with two shrimp tacos. Everything tasted great. The only thing is serving sizes were a bit small. Flavor of food is well above average, I added hot sauce for my taste. Which Capricho provided pleanty of choices of. Portions looked small but they are mighty and filling. Good drink selections as well. So far I have tried the beef and been and cheese and jalapeno empanadas, pork and pinapple tamales that were all fantastic! Simple, delicious food. My co-worked invited me to Capricho for lunch earlier this week. I didn't even know the place existed. It's literally a hole in the wall, but don't let that fool you. The menu is simple and straight forward, which is always a good sign to me. Various dips, starters, tacos, quesadillas, and other Mexican staples. The service is really nice too. You fill out a little card with your order and give it to the bartender, who brings out the food a few minutes later. I got the Veracruz tacos. Basically fried grouper tacos. They we're light and delicious. They have a bottle of Lizano Salsa on every table. I love that stuff. The next day my wife was coming downtown for some business around lunchtime so I decided to meet her there and try a few more things. This time I got Carnitas tacos, guacamole, and fried plantains. The place was empty but the guys in the kitchen and behind the counter were great and pointed out some things on the menu. I got a chicken quesadilla and some barbacoa tacos based on their recommendations. The food came out quick, was hot, and plated nicely without being pretentious. The quesadilla was great. I don't know if they make their own tortillas, but it was light and crispy, and not smothered in cheese like so many places do. Excellent. This is Wilmington'a hidden gem for Mexican food, especially street food. We ordered three different kinds of street tacos:carnitas( stewed tender pork), carne asada (tender beef), and shrimp/pork belly. Each one was filled to capacity w mostly meat, garnished w thinly sliced onions and cilantro. I've had street tacos in Oaxaca, Mexico City, and Guadalajara and these were as good and authentic as any I've had in Mexico. The elote, corn on the cob, was tender, covered w Cotija cheese and chili powder. Scrumptious! The guacamole side w chips was fresh and flavorful w/o being salty or too spicy. And the chips were warm and thin, just right for dipping into the salsa, which could've stood more heat, however. Best thing besides the great asking food here? Unbelievably low prices.
