    Shredded Chicken Quesadilla
    Mike P.

When I first moved to Wilmington I asked many locals whats the best Mexican restaurant around town. I would get replies with two options. The K-38 franchise of restaurants, or El Cerro. Ive eaten at both and while I enjoy the K-38 franchises they are not really the classic Mexican style restaurant Im looking for with burritos and enchiladas or carne asada dishes with the side of refried beans and rice. El Cerro just never did it for me. I kept giving it a retry and every time I was just disappointed. Here is where La Costa Mexican restaurant fits in. I wanted something different I havent tried before. I set out to the Oleander location to give it go. The restaurant is a standalone location which is good. I am always a little leery of strip mall locations with neon Open signs flashing. The restaurant itself wasn't anything flashy. If anything it needed a slight refresh of paint. Once inside I felt like this was the place I was looking for though. I was quickly greeted and led to a table. Once I sat down a waitress welcomed me and told me about the drink specials. $6 peach margaritas was the deal this day. Yes please. The menu itself had all the typical Mexican restaurant items I was looking for. I went with the chicken quesadilla. This was a flour tortilla stuffed with cheddar and Monterey jack cheese. Garnished with lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. When it arrived I was surprised at how huge the dish was! I guess I've been used to the half size quesadilla at the K-38 franchises. This was easily a meal I could've shared with another, especially after eating the free chips and salsa they brought to the table while I waited for my food. The food was delicious and the drink had ample alcohol to make the restaurant well worth it.

Prices too high for quality of food. No toilet paper, chicken and steak were not what they tasted to be. Don't recommend

The nachos were good but my taco salad was bad. Lots of liquid at the bottom. I was sick that night.

The staff is friendly and the place is very lively. It seems to be a little quieter at lunchtime, no waiting for a table at this time. They also have outside seating. We ordered the birria sandwich, think amped up grilled cheese with very tender meat. It comes with the dipping sauce and a side of ultra crispy French fries. Next up is the enchiladas verdes with steak. This dish comes with refried beans and rice. So, so good. Food is not greasy at all. The verde sauce is delicious and not at all spicy. Really tasty. We always want to try dessert, but we were in the middle of our workday, so we passed this time. Their breakfast here is outstanding, go for something authentic, rather than your typical "American " breakfast items. You won't be disappointed with any choice here. We have loved everything so far.

The restaurant is especially known locally for its authentic Mexican breakfast dishes, birria, and chilaquiles. I gave it a try with some coworkers for the first time in the Wilmington location, a it was fantastic. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I tried the Dovorciados eggs (two sunny side up eggs on top of a crispy corn tortilla with red and green salsa, separated by refried beans, and queso fresco.) with the Cafe de Olla. Everything was delicious. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere felt cozy and authentic. Easily one of the best breakfast and lunch spots in Wilmington. I'll definitely be back!

Today was not my first time eating here, and if I'm be truthful , every time I'm in town, I make it a point to stop by. They serve the kind of traditional Mexican breakfast I grew up loving, along with so many other delicious options. The staff is always warm and welcoming, serving every guest with the biggest smiles. You'll also often see the owner walking around as well, checking on tables and making sure everything is going smoothly, which adds such a personal touch. The restaurant itself is clean, beautifully decorated with cultural charm, and filled with the incredible aroma of fresh spices cooking in the kitchen. I always begin with their Café de Olla--a slow-simmered coffee made with raw brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange peel, and coffee. It's served hot, full of flavor, and not overly sweet. Honestly, it's the only coffee I'll happily drink without creamer or added sugar. This visit, I ordered the Tamal Montado: two tamales over a bed of creamy black bean sauce, covered with red salsa, then topped with a sunny side egg, avocado, Mexican sour cream, queso fresco, and cilantro. Every bite was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. I finished the meal with a pan dulce, which paired perfectly with the whole experience. I skipped tortillas this time, but they also have a tortilla station where they're made fresh by hand and cooked to order--always a sign you're in the right place!! They're open daily from 7 AM to 3 PM, and if you find yourself in Wilmington, this spot should absolutely be on your list

I recommend starting off with the pork belly quac, and a spicy margarita with tajin on the rim I had the Machu Picchu roll(corvina, citrus tiger milk, mango confetti, and more) and I swear was one of the most beautifully creative flavor packed dishes I have ever had in this town. Look, if you are wanting a quick getaway to another culinary world and are tired of the same ol wings, pizza , and beer come check out this spot. Oh! And to top it all off the service was stellar! Most people enter the bar entrance where the small patio area is .. but on the other side of the patio is the main entrance where you are created by the host stand .. You would never know how big this place is from the outside but once in... its like one of the hamster cage cages with never ending tunnels to different rooms/area... RSVP are definitely suggested since walkins are usually in Bar area or Patio area .. which isnt bad .. but its limited seating .. Staff here are cool but service can be a lil wait if they are busy . Menu is a Panamanian vibe with lots of good eats .. One of the salsas you must get is the Elote salsa its very nommm nommmm next would be the Goat Gauc which is equally amazing. The Ceviche is a must get ... yes get the Quattro which is 4oz of each one so you can sample all ! The scallops and pork belly of mash is pretty good but would be better over the coconut rice . The special of the day was a sheepshead filet over risotto which was pretty damn good ! The corvina was ok but was a little bit over done and ended up a lil drier than expected. Highly recommend asking for the homemade hot sauce ... its amazing and goes on everything! This is definitely a locals Hotspot and an interesting place to people watch...
