This is the first time coming and upon entering we were welcomed and seated. It wasn't busy at all for a Friday night. It wasn't loud at all which was nice to enjoy our meal. When I first moved to Wilmington I asked many locals whats the best Mexican restaurant around town. I would get replies with two options. The K-38 franchise of restaurants, or El Cerro. Ive eaten at both and while I enjoy the K-38 franchises they are not really the classic Mexican style restaurant Im looking for with burritos and enchiladas or carne asada dishes with the side of refried beans and rice. El Cerro just never did it for me. I kept giving it a retry and every time I was just disappointed. Here is where La Costa Mexican restaurant fits in. I wanted something different I havent tried before. I set out to the Oleander location to give it go. The restaurant is a standalone location which is good. I am always a little leery of strip mall locations with neon Open signs flashing. The restaurant itself wasn't anything flashy. If anything it needed a slight refresh of paint. Once inside I felt like this was the place I was looking for though. I was quickly greeted and led to a table. Once I sat down a waitress welcomed me and told me about the drink specials. $6 peach margaritas was the deal this day. Yes please. The menu itself had all the typical Mexican restaurant items I was looking for. I went with the chicken quesadilla. This was a flour tortilla stuffed with cheddar and Monterey jack cheese. Garnished with lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. When it arrived I was surprised at how huge the dish was! I guess I've been used to the half size quesadilla at the K-38 franchises. This was easily a meal I could've shared with another, especially after eating the free chips and salsa they brought to the table while I waited for my food. My wife and I have been going to this resturant for the past three years and I'm finally getting around to writing a review. The onsite parking is plentiful, the dining areas are well maintained and well lit. Seating is comfortable and socially distanced. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The food is authentic and the menu has been planned well. The kitchen staff is responsive to those guests who need to substitute or otherwise modify some dishes. My favorite dish so far is the Mole Enchilada with beef filling. With this dish, I recommend you ask for the Mexican white rice. Wash it down with a nice beer. My choice of beer is Modelo Especial. One of the only Mexican restaurants in my area on doordash so ordered from here when I needed my fix. I ordered the queso and chips and the chicken quesadilla. The quesadilla was massive, filled an entire box. And the queso and chips really hit the spot. I wish the quesadilla was a bit more crispy- which I crisped it up but it had a really nice flavor. It was accompanied with sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo & lettuce. The queso tasted different than from other places and was visibly different. Looks like the queso had Mexican seasonings added to it. The pricing is a bit higher than what I'm used to but this was still a solid meal. Everything arrived correctly and on time. It is just unsettling. Like, why is the guacamole so wet? And why is the meat that color and why does the salsa taste like it came from a jar? Is this American cheese?!? Other questions I had during my experience: Where is our waiter, why are there no other people here? How is this place still open? Where is our check, and why is our meal 50 dollars? One quesadilla, one burrito, one beer and guacamole. To be fair, we had gone to El Cerro and passed K 38 and both were so busy as it was prime dinner time. On 01-11-2021 I ordered a fajita burrito, queso dip, salsa, and a carne asada. The salsa was not delivered and the carne asada came without any meat. The delivery service removed the charge for the missing food, but, when my husband contacted La Costa directly, the manager argued with him and kept repeating over and over that there was meat in the package. As business owners, we would not think to argue with a customer and we would certainly, at bare minimum, offer to send a new order. She made no such offer AND just kept repeating that the salsa and the meat were there. DO NOT EVER ORDER FROM THEM!!!! read more

It looked like a place straight out of Mexico however don't let its cute beauty amaze you. I ordered a combination plate with rice beans and a chicken taco and it was the worst Mexican food I have ever had in my life. The waiter was acting like a a** I don't know if he was tired, lazy, or just had a bad day but no excuse to take that out on a customer. We go to the Porter's Neck location weekly and have been for a couple years. Today was our first time visiting this location, and honestly, it feels like a completely different restaurant. My girlfriend got the chicken taco salad, like she always does, but it had different ingredients than it does at the other location. The lettuce was also was soggy and wilted and the tortilla chip bowl tasted pretty stale. I got the Choripollo, and everything just tasted off; nowhere near the quality I've come to to expect of this restaurant. I was planning to tell my server about the food, but she never asked how it was. After she brought our food we only saw her once again, to ask us how we wanted to pay. Even after seeing both of our half eaten entrees, she didn't ask us how it was or even if we wanted a to-go box. We will definitely stick to the Porter's Neck location from now on. read more

I don't even like Mexican, but my roommate really wanted to go so we did. I got a quesodilla. The menu says it's served WITH: lettuce, diced tomatoes, sourcream cheese and quacamole. I got my food and all it had was the chicken and cheese. I went to the server, asked her why mine didn't have the other items. I was told that they didn't come with that specific "combo". I then told her that it said it said it did on the menu so they offered for it to be on the side, so I agreed. Then when the check came they charged me an additional 1.25$ for the side of sour cream. I'm super disappointed with this place, the food was mediocre and they refused to give me what I ordered without charging me extra. Congrats La Costa, you've made the list for one more crappy Mexican food place that I'll never return to. read more
