This place is amazing and has amazing food. It is a hidden gem that needs attention. I have yet to find something I didn't like. This place is a must go for College Station residents. It was highly recommended to me by a friend and I was absolutely impressed with the quality and authenticity of their food. I may be mistaken but I believe this is the only place in town that will serve cochinita pibil (slow-roasted pork) rajas con queso, and chicharron en salsa verde. While they also serve more popular dishes such as their highly demanded picadillo (ground beef) and barbacoa, no other Mexican or Tex/Mex joint in B/CS can match Tacobar's barbacoa (not even Garpez or Cocoloco). The shredded chicken is marinated in a (non-spicy) chipotle sauce that gives it a very unique flavor, (personally my favorite option at Tacobar). Also, the Cochinita Pibil with a hint red onion and avocado is to die for. Their agua de horchata is also quite good. While Tacobar is truly a traditional Mexican restaurant, they still provide their customers with plenty of tex-mex options such as chicken fajitas (cheese and sour cream for your tacos upon request), chips and queso, etc. Their flexibility when it comes to preparing/serving their delicious food along with their superb customer service certainly makes of this place one of my favorites in town. read more

Oh my... So delicious! We saw the Hooked deal and decided to stop in and try it out. We were blown away by the amazing tacos and great service! We had the barbacoa, conchinita pibil, and carnitas - the two pork tacos were so flavorful and juicy, the barbacoa was pretty spot on, too. It took a few minutes to get our tacos but it was definitely worth the wait. Be sure to get the creamy jalapeño salsa, it's a great compliment to the tacos we had. Plus, their Jamaica aguas frescas was a nice treat. The employees came by and asked us how we liked our meal and even offered refills on my bf's water - and if we wanted extra hot sauce. We will be back for sure- great food, service, and even without the hooked deal they have good prices (especially compared to those "other" less authentic taco places in CS! Came back for the hooked deal again and the barbacoa was even better. The pork tacos were still tops! Also, the temp was great inside! I ordered two basic tacos, the first one made me sick to my stomach after a couple bites so I threw it away and then stashed my breakfast taco in the refrigerator for later. I get back from Northgate later that night excited to eat my basic and hopefully delicious refrigerated taco, but noticed after one bite, it's blue. After seeing these guys on Hooked I popped in at lunch to give them a try.  I got the cochinita pibil and the Chicken fajita, both overall were good.  My only complaints are: 1. While I don't mind that they aren't made there, The tortillas are a bit small, after you add tomatoes and cheese you might as well grab a fork because you won't be holding anything left in your tortilla if you use your hands. 2. Oh the grease, I got mine to go and by the time I got back down the road the napkins inside and the bag were soaked through with grease.  This was the same for both tortillas when I opened the foil, soaked with grease. Maybe a little closer attention on quality control, my tomatoes had multiple stem bases and the chicken has large fatty spots UPDATE- after a personal invitation from the owner we returned for bfast tacos. After avoiding this place for some time simply because its out of the way, I've been making it a regular lunch stop as its close to work. Boy has Tacobar stepped up its game. Indeed I may boldly pronounce it the best taqueria in College Station. They have started experimenting with all sorts of funky tacos...just ask them when you go there as many are off the menu. The cochinita pibil remains my favorite, and it is a genuine masterpiece. I challenge you to eat just one...they are addictive. Fantastic charro beans too, not easy to find in this town. read more

Service was friendly but tacos were sub-par. The food was really disappointing. I tried the carnitas, cochinita pibil, and rajas con queso tacos, and they were alright. The carnitas and cochinita pibil tasted about the same. Of all three, the rajas con queso taco was the best, but it was still lacking anything that made it spectacular. The tacos got pretty soggy and stuck to the paper in the basket. But they were overall filling and were a good deal for $9 total (20% off using the Hooked app). Came in for their hooked deal, and was not disappointed. I got their two "favorite" tacos to see what sets them apart. The ingredients were fresh, flavorful, and I was not left hungry. Also had the queso, which is the same as most places. What really impressed me about Tacobar though was their customer service. The owner made it a point to make his way to every table to ask how their meal was and if he could accommodate them. He around came to us a couple of times on the short 30 min we were there, which is more than I can say for other Mexican places in the area that even have table staff. Barbacoa and pibil are my favorites, if you go there and dont have them, you havent lived life. Today was my first time at taco bar, and I was craving a breakfast burrito. I came in and waited in line admiring all of the beautifully cooked traditional Mexican meats. I ordered a cochanita and egg burrito with high hopes. I waited patiently... And waited... And waited. Finally I noticed that three people that had ordered after me had already gotten their food. They looked really busy and I didn't want to be that guy, but after they served the 4th person that came after me (about 25 minutes after I had ordered) I politely asked if they had maybe gotten their tickets out of order. The man said rather rudely that burritos take longer and that was the delay. All of their food was pre-made, so I was really unsure why it would take any longer than a taco, but I politely agreed while I watched him finish my burrito. The burrito was pretty good, although it wasn't mixed very well and the bottom wasn't closed at all. Overall a pretty Mediocre experience and won't be coming back here again anytime soon. read more

Nothing special and the meats have barely any seasoning. The torta was to much bread and the meats are all full of peppers and onions and few bits of meat. For the price I would expect more. I LOVE this place!! The owner is the most friendliest guy:) My favorite is the beef fajita taco with rajas con queso and avocados on it ! Meat has tons of flavor and is tender. I also love the Mexican rice, has a very smoky flavor...delicious!! It's alright. I'm not particularly crazy about it. We tried 4 different types of tacos: Shredded chicken, Cochinita Pibil, barbacoa, and beef fajita. 2 on corn, 2 on flour. We added cilantro and onions to them all and beans to the barbacoa... Bad choice, they use canned beans. We ate for $14.18 with tax. Not bad. But I wasn't crazy about my tacos... They sufficed since I was hungry. But then We're both incredibly critical of tacos. We're both partly Hispanic, have traveled extensively throughout Mexico, Central, and South America... I am from an area of California that serves authentic Mexican food and it has been difficult to find such places in College Station (easier in Bryan). I was very impressed with the quality of ingredients, service and affordability of TacoBar. More so I appreciate the simplicity and authenticity of the food considering that not everything is slathered in dairy or grease (unless you are feeling a TexMex vibe then you can definitely request it). I've had a very inconsistent experience here. At times it's been phenomenal and really pleasant, but recently it's been pretty disappointing. I bought a breakfast plate right around lunchtime which was probably where I messed up, the eggs were legitimately green and tough and everything else tasted like it was cooked days before and kept hot the entire time. I couldn't even force myself to eat half of it before I just threw it out. I've really enjoyed the cochinitas pibil in the past, but I'm hesitant to try it again based off my recent experience. Ehhhh.... it was alright. Nothing I definitely feel I MUST try again. if I'm in the area I might stop in but I've had way better tacos. Our chips were burnt and greasy and tastes like fried in old oil. The service isn't great. Has to wait for our water cups which were small.sized paper cups brought out from.the back and you had to.go up to front to ask for refill of water. No one coming around refilling like they said. So fountain drinks, chairs stacked to ceiling in corner. Place just looks unorganized and meat and fixings for tacos just sitting in trays so not fresh made to order food. I love tacos and have eaten many in my life, but I can honestly say that the best taco I've ever eaten is the Pork Cochinita Pibil.
