    Steak Burrito

I came here with a girlfriend who is kind of new to the Oak Park area so I came to visit as well as get a bite to eat w her as we always do. I love me some authentic Mexican food so when she gave me the option to choose and she sent this as one - all I had to do was take a look at the menu and see that this was going to be it! We walked in and I again peeped the menu to make sure and I automatically knew this was going to be fresh & authentic. They have a variety of things to choose from including breakfast. I went with the burrito - Idk if it's just me, but rice does not belong inside the burrito lol, but it may just be how I grew up! So I politely asked to take it out and something that surprised me was that they offered it on the side! I've never seen that and I appreciated that. My friend did the same with her rice & beans inside the burrito - she asked for it on side. This somewhat gave us more food in a way haha or made it a "meal". I would say that they should put their sauces on the table rather than serving them in VERY small paper cups. The place itself looks like a cute chipotle esc restaurant but just a bit smaller. There were a couple people in there enjoying their food. One ordered enchiladas and the plate looked good! Overall good Mexican spot in Oak Park!

Clearly have pozole on the menu online, but not in stock. Lame.

Pozole listed online, but not available when I went to pick it up. Super lame. Just take it off the menu. -Former customer

We had a super delicious, hot, and fresh lunch today! I got two veggie tacos on corn tortillas plus beans & rice, and a bottle of Mexican Coke. My date had two al pastor tacos. Both meals were a hit. We both agreed the refried beans were a tad too salty, but otherwise everything was perfect! No wait to order, quick service, spotless & cheery dining room, and friendly staff. Everyone was masked, which was appreciated. We found free street parking. We will definitely be back, soon!!

The beans and rice is very good I personally like the El Pastor with little chunks of pineapple in it and then the chicken as well ! As a very nice atmosphere!

Great Al Pastor tacos, probably the best in the Oak Park area. Great design inside, too

As a party of two, we choose the high top closest to the wall. Our server did come over right away for the initial drink and appetizer orders to where we got a margarita, horchata and chips and guacamole. Everything was good at this point, drinks were tasty and guac was fresh but the chips were very salty. We requested another basket and asked for less or no salt and she said that they're all the same. Bummer. For mains I got two quesadillas (one chicken and one cheese) and a side of beans. My friend got 1 chicken and 2 steak tacos. We also ordered an elote to split. The food came out fast but it was cold. Cold like the cheese in the quesadilla wasn't melted, the chicken on the chicken quesadilla was lukewarm at best and the elote just had a plop of mayo on top that didn't melt in because it too was cold. I sent my quesadillas back to be remade and they were much better the second time around. My friend's tacos were all thankfully hot, but she did not like the steak. She described it as being very tough and only ate one of the two that she ordered. She said it was like they just served her what was left of a steak. After the food was delivered our waitress never came back. Since it's a small space we got to observe the staff. The chefs talked to the waitresses over the window counter while the waitresses drank their iced coffees, applied lip gloss, played on their phones, chatted it up etc but never came to check on the two tables of customers dining. We had to ask someone to bring our bill. Overall this place has decent reviews and I see the potential but with all of the options in the area it's not someplace I'd likely return to or recommend based on this experience.

The tacos were decent, I did a poblano and a nopales, the corn sauce on the poblano was a little much, but the tortillas were flavorful and held up to the variety of fillings stuffed into each one. The queso, however, was meh and congealed by the time our tacos arrived. 4 star service, 3 star food

We found that and more at Taqueria El Tapatio. They have a very large space that is brightly lit and very colorfully decorated. They have booths and stand alone tables, each of which feature carvings of natural scenes and animals. There were several families and couples already enjoying meals when we sat down. We were greeted with complementary chips and salsa. The chips were so fresh they were still warm. The salsas were all delicious. I was very partial to the chile de árbol. We chose to have tacos de al pastor, a taco de pechuga y queso fundido, and the Nachos Supremos. We took our time and zero pictures. The food was delicious, fresh, and generously portioned. On the way out we ordered a strawberry liquado and it was what dreams are made of. Highly recommend gifting yourself a chill night at this joint or grabbing some food for the road. We'll be back!

I usually am not much of a salsa with chips gal when it comes to restaurants like this. The chips were crispy, the salsa was perfection and just so savory and spicy! The green salsa was like a combo of roasted green peppers with avocado it was my favorite and the red salsa was the traditional tomatoes/pepper salsa. I wish we had them here in Des Moines. The service was amazing too. Just like at home they greeted us right away and told us to sit where we would like. The place also smelled so clean. I ordered to drink the carrot/orange juice. Made me feel like I was in the markets in Mexico picking up a fresh juice! To eat i ordered a steak, a tripa taco and a ceviche shrimp tostada. Needless to say this made me feel completely satisfied by the end. The shrimp ceviche tostada was a a generous amount and it was mouth watering good. The asada taco was delicious. The tripa taco was made how I like it crispy and just so good. The lady asked if we wanted the tripe soft or crispy which was so nice that they ask because everyone has different preferences on how they like their tripa. My mom ordered a order of the tripa tacos and she had them soft. My mom was so impressed by this place and that says a lot from a women who is a amazing cook herself. Anyway this is HIGHLY recommended if you love AUTHENTIC Mexican food. I will DEFINITELY be back here. I'm already planning my next trip!

Folks, prepare yourselves for the best dang birria you've ever had! However, note that it comes…read morewith a small side of chaos! In the context of a mom-&-pop shop like this, it is charming and not annoying. I ordered the birria ramen with the quesabirria upgrade. I wasn't brave enough to go for the spicy variant, for I wasn't ready for the possibility of having my posterior handed to me. Having "real" ramen noodles, whatever that means, is something I will leave to Japanese places. Noodles from the familiar bricks at the grocer's are understandable and instantly forgivable - I'd be surprised if they were "real"! Noodles aside, the ramen had a rich, savory broth. In addition, there was a healthy serving of tender pulled meat that had the flavors of the ramen turned up to 11! Who needs ramen when you have MEAT! Finally, I appreciate the onion and cilantro served on the side as the vegetable element, as well as a Tapatío Soup Base on the side (though, why mess with perfection?) Then we come to the quesabirria. As much as I enjoyed the ramen, this is 100% what I am ordering next time. A tortilla grilled crispy without becoming a tortilla chip, the perfect amount of cheese, and the same meat born in a kitchen of the gods! Everything was in perfect balance and harmony; and yes, I dipped it into the ramen. Speaking of tortillas, there are fresh fried tortilla chips provided at the start of the meal with three salsas! These aren't your jarred ones either! While the ones in squeeze bottles were on the simpler side, they were distinct. The favorite goes to the one in the ramekin! They aren't shy about refilling the chips when they run out either! My only comment is that the chips aren't salted. However! There is salt at the table, and this does help people adjust salt to their liking and prevents sogginess. While not greasy, there was enough oil to help the salt adhere. In terms of their service, some things were great, and other things were a little chaotic. The service was quick to bring out and refill chips as well as take my order. On the flip side, an empty water glass wasn't noticed, the Agua Fresca wasn't brought until much later with the meal, and the ramen took longer than I'd've expected. Entering the restaurant, there was also some confusion about the process, as I was quietly seated at the counter, but this was apparently a waiting area to be added to the wait list? Just a little chaos adding to the charm, nothing to worry about. Another indication of chaos? There is a sign asking for toilet paper not to be thrown into the toilet, and thrown into the trash can... it wasn't April 1st either. Thankfully, no foul smells. About that Agua Fresca... it was refreshing and not too sweet, and not 80% ice as so many places do with cold beverages. Enjoyable lightly sweet and acidic rim, too! What guarantees a return visit? The value! Not only were the prices reasonable on their own, the portions were large even for a voracious eater like myself, taking some home for the next day. Final verdict: a quintessential family-owned restaurant that makes incredible birria at prices that'll have you thinking you'd just time traveled. The ramen is very good, but the quesabirria is to die for! Don't miss it!

We also got the birria mac n cheese, which was in collaboration with Luella's Southern Kitchen. It was yummy, but a bit overwhelming with the cheese. The bread crumbs on top gave it some texture/crunch which was nice. I got a strawberry horchata to drink - it was okay, but I didn't taste any horchata, so would opt for a regular horchata. Food was overall a great experience - highly recommend. The staff were kind and accommodating. But I docked a star only because there was uncertainty about the birria mac n cheese collab, even after asking two employees. There was also a minor tech issue where the payment screen froze. But overall staff were very warm!
