Didn't have the best lunch experience here yesterday. Upon entering, it's a small space and only one other table was seated so we were told to sit wherever we'd like. As a party of two, we choose the high top closest to the wall. Our server did come over right away for the initial drink and appetizer orders to where we got a margarita, horchata and chips and guacamole. Everything was good at this point, drinks were tasty and guac was fresh but the chips were very salty. We requested another basket and asked for less or no salt and she said that they're all the same. Bummer. For mains I got two quesadillas (one chicken and one cheese) and a side of beans. My friend got 1 chicken and 2 steak tacos. We also ordered an elote to split. The food came out fast but it was cold. Cold like the cheese in the quesadilla wasn't melted, the chicken on the chicken quesadilla was lukewarm at best and the elote just had a plop of mayo on top that didn't melt in because it too was cold. I sent my quesadillas back to be remade and they were much better the second time around. My friend's tacos were all thankfully hot, but she did not like the steak. She described it as being very tough and only ate one of the two that she ordered. She said it was like they just served her what was left of a steak. After the food was delivered our waitress never came back. Since it's a small space we got to observe the staff. The chefs talked to the waitresses over the window counter while the waitresses drank their iced coffees, applied lip gloss, played on their phones, chatted it up etc but never came to check on the two tables of customers dining. We had to ask someone to bring our bill. Overall this place has decent reviews and I see the potential but with all of the options in the area it's not someplace I'd likely return to or recommend based on this experience. read more

The margarita was quite good, asked for it with no simple syrup bc I don't like my drinks sweet and they were happy to accommodate. The tacos were decent, I did a poblano and a nopales, the corn sauce on the poblano was a little much, but the tortillas were flavorful and held up to the variety of fillings stuffed into each one. I stopped in on a Friday afternoon and was able to seat myself promptly. It's kinda small, but just enough space and cute decor. I ordered a strawberry pineapple margarita, fish taco, and a chicken taco. I was impressed by it all. The margarita was very strong with fresh strawberries. The woman who answered the phone when my husband called to modify an order that door dash would not allow him to do was so rude it was ridiculous. She told him to make the change on the app and he explained that it wasn't allowing him to do that. She refused to change it and we cannot eat the ingredient that we wanted removed. Super cute Mexican Restaurant in Oak Park. We went on a Sunday and every table was taken by the time we left. They serve breakfast till 2pm so my wife had the Huevos con Nopales which she loved. I had 3 tacos...Carne Asada which was my favorite.super juicy and stuffed with meat and onions. Their homemade red sauce was fantastic. Also had a Pollo taco and Camaron taco. Both were delicious and they were only 4.95 each! For drinks I had a Tecate and my wife had their Agua de Jamaica. Friendly staff,great service and fantastic food . Too many ridiculously overpriced extremely mediocre restaurants here, guess because the "incoming" think there's lots of money, and low standards here. Mostly correct. This was their first day open on Sundays and it was a very wise move because they were very busy. That didn't stop the service from being great. The food is so fresh, tasty and the portions very generous. The corn tortillas are homemade and not at all oily. The decor is cute and feels like a trip to Mexico with all the bright colors. The bathroom was clean and well equipped with a baby changing table and modern hand dryer. Street parking can be had if you are patient. Hecho is small and feels a little like a hole in the wall, but the food is excellent. We started with chips, salsa and guacamole. The red salsa was zippy but not too hot. Guacamole was excellent. I was happy with the number of vegetarian Taco options that were available. I had the Napolitos and the Jamaica. The former was good, the ladder was amazing. Contained marinated and sautéed hibiscus, pineapple and black bean parade. The flavors married together really well. The cocktail options were excellent as well. I had the Hatch of margarita. Came here on Cinco de Mayo to celebrate the occasion! Such a cute and lively restaurant in downtown Oak Park. FYI, it's very small inside with only like 7 tables. Me and my friend thankfully only had to wait 10 minutes despite it being super packed! BIG shoutout to the 2 women working the dining room. They had so many takeout orders on the side plus making sure everyone dining-in was taken care of in a timely manner. The service was very fast paced but still of quality. Chips and guac: For starters, we shared their chips and guac. Can't go wrong with it. I just wish the guac was more flavorful, that's all. Chips were delicious. Strawberry margarita: I normally don't drink while I eat but it was a special occasion. Their margaritas are strong!! Very flavorful though. Mine had like chunks of strawberry and pineapple in it which was yummy. Tacos w/ rice and beans: Their tacos are hefty! They loaded those babies up to the point where the tortillas broke. I wasn't complaining though. All 3 tacos were super flavorful and delicious. Each taco comes with its own lime which I appreciated. The tacos also come with green and red salsa for the table to share. The carne asada had more of a ground beef consistency. Kinda sad rice and beans come separately. Cons: Although I had a very positive experience here, I don't think I would come back. I've had better, more authentic, and way cheaper Mexican food before. The biggest issue is the price.... I can get a more authentic 3 taco dinner that INCLUDES rice and beans for way way cheaper than what I paid. 1 taco is already $4.50 and if you want a side, it's an extra $2.50 per side. Another one of my go-to places for when I'm feeling too lazy to make dinner! In my opinion, Hecho en Oak Park makes the best tacos in the area! I've tried all of their tacos on their menu, and highly recommend the carne asada, pastor, and camaron (however, you really can't go wrong with any of them). When I think of a "bad taco" things like dry meat or bland toppings come to mind. Hecho en Oak Park is the complete opposite! Their meats are tender, juicy, and extremely flavorful and their toppings are always very complementary. They really pack their tacos to the brim, and I often find myself full on just two tacos. Aside from their tacos, they make terrific nachos and an amazing horchata! In the past 4 years I've been eating here, I've only had one hiccup during COVID times. We recently place a large order of 10+ tacos, and since they are only doing take-out orders right now, I can only assume they are constantly swamped with multiple orders. When I went to pick up my order, they handed me a tiny bag, which definitely did not contain 10 tacos. When I pointed this out, they apologized and handed me a different bag. However, when I got home, I realized they had forgotten two tacos from our order, and we had to quickly run back to get them. They were super friendly and quickly fixed the issue. I really like this place. The tacos are really good but the margaritas are even better. Im not a tequila fan but when in Rome or should i say when it Mexico you try tequila. I wanted to try this place because Im trying to get away from eating land animals and the have vegetarian and pescatarian options. the fish is tilapia AND i do not like tilapia. However the chef here has perfected frying and flavoring this created in a lab fish and it was awesome. The veggie taco had too much sauce on it but still i liked the grilled poblano peppers. RENOVACIONES Y REDENCIÓN (RENOVATIONS & REDEMPTION) This fun Mexican place in downtown Oak Park has seen major improvements to interior decoration and food quality. A few weeks after Hecho En Oak Park came into existence, I wrote a scathing 1* review that mysteriously vanished (hmmmm.....) On that visit, everything went wrong: slow service, freezerburnt corn, and general disappointment. I had zero desire to return. After some pressing from Nichole C -- who'd enjoyed several positive visits -- I eventually caved, agreeing to give HEOP another shot. Enough time had passed since that first disastrous experience, so we got a quick dinner after her marathon on 10/7/18. Unlike many other Mexican places, there's no free chips & salsa here, which sorta sucks. The inside is painted vibrantly and decorated with sugar skulls. They've got a menu of fresh margaritas as well as micheladas. I'm still not convinced about their 'queso fundido con chorizo' ($7.50). The greasy meat is mixed in with the melted chihuahua cheese, giving the whole dish a reddish tinge and oily composition. It comes with chips + tortillas and tastes okay, but frankly, looks like puke. The 'elote' (pair of Mexican style corn on the cobs) isn't as good as others we've had but it's a decent value at $5. Slathered in cotija cheese and mayo with a dusting of chili powder, it sorely needed a squirt of lime and perhaps a sprinkling of salt. Tacos were bomb ($3.50 each). Her 'carne asada' was prepared with the traditional onions and cilantro. The 'al pastor' was even better, thanks to a pineapple pico de gallo. However, the 'pescado' was the real winner, a lightly battered fish taco with coleslaw and spicy mayo. Fantastic stuff. Bread = 4 Circuses = 4 It always appears busy, which is a good sign. Word might've got out that "hey, remember how these guys used to suck? well they're lots better now." Hecho's got a bit more class than Boss Burrito, though not quite as trendy as Maya del Sol or the ill-fated Altiro. * TL;DR * It took nearly a whole year, but I'm pleased to say that the successors to Suburrito have made big strides. Better corn can be found at nearby Q BBQ, but the fish tacos at Hecho En Oak Park are something special. Recommended! read more

What a find! Such a vibrantly painted and decorated. Really fun! The menu is great. Lots of different options and really inexpensive. I had the shrimp taco with mole and the shrimp was so perfectly cooked and the sauce very flavourful. I also got the vegetarian one (a rare occurrence for me but it sounded too good to turn down). Of course most important is the food. I have loved all the tacos I've had here. They had a off the menu special poblano pepper taco which was out of this world. The Carne Asada is delicious and I loved the al pastor. There is also a lentil soup which is not on the menu. Comes with a seared quesadilla inside of it. It's awesome!! We've ordered curbside pickup from a few of our favorite places but our #1 place has by far been Hecho. Not only are they the friendliest on the phone when placing your order. You can also place an online order. Food takes on average about 15-20 mins tops to be ready. We ordered our usual... My hubby got his pollo tacos and I ordered the poblano ones. On top of being a fine amazing local businesses here in Oak Park, Hecho has also gone the extra step to make beautifully handcrafted face masks. They sell for $6 each and come in men's /women's sizes and an array of colors. Upon walking in we were greeted immediately and seated. The decor inside is so colorful and vibrant. Sugar skull paintings and skulls hang one side and oil lamps on shelves on the other that offer a great ambiance. The menu is simple but the tacos and flavors are far from it. There's a giant carafe of water on the table which was greatly appreciated. We started with and order of chips and guacamole and a side of salsa. I did find it odd that chips and salsa weren't free as that's a staple in every Mexican restaurant. However once you order your chips they are bottomless and they do keep coming out warm and crips and the salsa and guacamole was fresh and the perfect amount of spice.. actually the salsa I found one of the salsas to be very spicy but perfect for my husband's palate. I ordered the Camaron taco and the Rajas con crema taco. The Rajas was my favorite of the two tacos that I had, it was topped with fresh avocado slices. Absolutely delicioso! My husband ordered the carne asada taco and the pollo taco. We basically took bites of each other's tacos. I really enjoyed his pollo taco of two that he ordered as did he. We enjoyed all four of our tacos but the rajas con crema taco was the winner for us! Oh my goodness! I almost forgot we also had the most refreshing coconut margaritas on the rocks. Moving away from Oklahoma, I've been looking for a place with good Mexican food to fill my taco cravings. Several people kept recommending Hecho, so I had to try it out. Walking in, it was easy to order for take-out. They had an option to dine-in, but we weren't quite sure about it since the tables were way closer than six feet, so we opted to take it home. The lady who took our order was kind. Food took about ten minutes to get to us. We ordered four tacos between the two of us: two carne asada, one pescado, and one pastor. We also split a 16 oz container of rice. I had the carne asada and pescado. I really enjoyed the pescado, the mango salsa was a great compliment to the fried fish. The carne asada was a bit misleading since it was more like ground beef instead of what you might think is authentic carne asada. The corn tortilla was flavorful, but lacked the integrity to stand up to the taco. I think it would have been better if they were at least double wrapped instead of the singular tortilla. The rice was mediocre, nothing special. I did like the salsa verde and roja that came with our meal. It's not the best tacos I've had, but not the worst. Not too bad for being conveniently down the road from me, but I think it ended up being too hyped up for me, so it didn't meet my expectations. read more

I had been here before during the Summer Thursday Nights Out in Oak Park. The tacos and corn were good. Summer ended and I had not had a chance to go back. This past week I dined in with my mom, sister and my little one. My mom loves to go anywhere "Margaritas" are available. We decided to go here as a group on a Saturday at around 4. The place is small with about 7 tables. We were able to get seated right away. The manager greeted us and was very welcoming. I love the decor. Lots of bright colors and Frida Kahlo pictures. It's a beautiful place. The margaritas were amazing and strong. I ordered the special which was "lentil soup and a quesadilla". My mom ordered the enchiladas with rice and beans. My little one ordered rice and a plain chicken taco. My sister ordered shrimp tacos. All of the food came out quickly and was delicious. My quesadilla was made on a homemade tortilla and was so delicious. We all agreed that this is our new local place to drink margaritas at and get a quick bite to eat before we head to the movies. You can tell they make "home cooked " food made with love. The manager was very friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. Everyone knows how much I love Oak Park. They have delicious flavors and unique blends that excite all the tastebuds. The guacamole is blended and smooth, with a nice use of spices without being to hot.
