5 stars for Tacos El Tio #4 - I tried this Mexican Restaurant for the first time Saturday Night. It's a 24 hour restaurant with a large food and drink menu - inside is full of Mexican decor which looks really cool. For our drinks, we tried the Mango, Strawberry and Lime Margaritas - all were delicious but I think that the Mango is the best one for sure. We had to ask for chips and salsa and waters (they aren't given automatically) - so keep in mind if you want any of those. For dinner, I had the steak taco dinner which was great - steak was good quality. My friend had the brisket taco dinner which he really enjoyed and my brother liked the steak torta sandwich. If you're in the area (especially if you're up late) and are feeling Mexican food, I'd recommend trying Tacos El Tio #4.

I really liked their burrito suizas . Adding melted cheese to anything makes everything better in my opinion, but definitely recommend ordering in versus taking to go when possible because they lather on more cheese and sauce when you're in the restaurant. They had good service. Was very confusing though because they bring out salsa and salsa Verde but they don't bring out chips. Why no chips? They should add chips to every table and that would make this from a four-star to 4.5 star. It could be a five star if only the prices were more reasonable.

Me and My Aunt stopped here before going to see The Color Purple at The Lake Theater. We opted for our deciosn to eat tacos. This place did not disappoint my taste buds. The service was excellent. Everyone was attentive, smiling and friendly. Nice bold colorful decor. Everything about this place seemed full of hospitality. I ordered the steak tacos with rice and my aunt ordered the chicken tacos. We both agreed that the food was delicious and freshly prepared. Nice vibes, delicious food, good customer service and decent prices always wins my heart.

Food: each got the three taco bundle with different protein, steak, al pastor, chicharron, brisket. The steak was by far the best one out of all the tacos, then came brisket, because both of the meats were tender, and a little better season. The Al pasted and the Chicharron were not so great as it was not seasoned well and it was overly sauced on. The chicharron was too fatty and slimy with the sauce being overly sour. All the tortillas were just kind of too soggy. The rice was decent, it was well salted and soft Service: we got takeout and delivery was through DoorDash. We ordered it at 12:30am and it took about 30 minutes.

Service was friendly and the food was really good. Portion size of the quesadilla with mushrooms was generous, but beans and rice are an added fee, so it was on the pricier side. Lively atmosphere. Colorful dining room. Bears were on, so my date was pleased.

The meal started with complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered a mezcal margarita (fruta picanta) and my friend got a mango cocktail (mangasa). I liked mine a lot, my friend didn't care for the tajin rim on hers, and the waiter offered to replace it, but she stuck with it and liked it in the end. There were so many great sounding things on the menu, with gluten free and vegetarian options. We ended up splitting the calabaza- an acorn squash stuffed with mushroom risotto and also the wild mushroom tostada. The calabaza was great for winter, warm and filling. The tostada was lighter but really delicious, it was probably my favorite of the two. It was a great dinner, that I would definitely visit again if I'm back in town.

Thank goodness we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server Meyah was super friendly. We started with a few cocktails ..one being the Oaxacan Old Fashion..smokey and delicious. We tried their Market Ceviche which was on their Weekly Specials menu..Cured Mahi Mahi Brazilian Papaya,Tangerine Habanero sauce served with Sweet Potato chips.fresh and delicious. For our entrees we tried the Barbacoa Tacos and Blackened Fish(Tilapia) tacos. Both entrees were 21.00 for 3 tacos but no rice or beans on the side so a little pricey in my opinion. Street parking is a challenge but they do offer valet for 5.00. They have a fantastic patio that is open in the summer so we will definitely be back to enjoy a few cocktails and Latin American eats.

I've been here a few times and have always enjoyed the experience. We started with cocktails, old-fashioneds for the guys and a mojito mocktail for me. The three of us shared everything we ordered. We started with an item called the Volcan, which was crispy mini quesadillas stuffed with mashed potatoes and cheese then topped with shrimp al pastor. I loved the crunch of the quesadillas against the creamy filling. Next we shared a carne asada pizza. This pizza had a perfectly thin and crispy crust topped with grilled skirt steak with a cilantro pesto sauce. So flavorful! For the main event we shared a 22oz bone-in ribeye with truffle fries. A medium rare tender and juicy steak and truffle - c'mon, need I say more? Oak Park has some of my favorite restaurants, and Hoja Santa is one.

The vibe inside is perfect for an intimate evening or afternoon lunch. Dark wood seating, an ample sized bar with dim lighting makes this a comfortable, chic spot. There is street side outdoor seating; however, there were no table umbrellas during our visit. The staff greeted us immediately and was happy to review the menu with us. We had the mole with roasted broccoli and cauliflower, unicorn pescado tacos and a Plato Fuerte with shrimp, lobster and chicken in a tasty creamy sauce. We loved all of the entrées; however, thought the mole was a lacking the traditional mole flavors we've tried before. The unicorn fish tacos were the standout and were crispy and delicious! We also appreciated the 4 taco serving, which was perfect for two. Prices were on point with other similar style restaurants in Oak Park, slightly elevated but fair for the quality of ingredients. Let's not forget the cocktails...outstanding!

The waitress asked us about drinks but did no suggested selling of anything, did not mention lunch specials or enlighten us about the many flavors, sizes of margaritas. They brought out chips & salsa for the table & we ordered a side of guacamole. It was made table side by was very bland. It lacked flavor & was underwhelming. It needed salt & more lime juice. Another waitress approached our table to take our meal orders. She was quiet, spoke very little English & couldn't answer any specific questions about the menu. Our drinks arrived. they were good but nothing spectacular. 2 members of our party, ordered tacos & 2 ordered chimichangas When our food arrived, we dug right in. My Chimichanga was dressed up nice from the outside but the minute I bit into it, EEE YUCK!!!!The filling inside lacked flavor & meat tasted like rubber. It was filled with pureed refried beans. The beans were overly pureed & running out the burrito. None of the ingredients binded together. The consistency of beans to meat ratio was not well balanced for the filling thus making the dish terrible. I also noticed a huge amount of oil/grease soaked into the shell, which made it impossible to enjoy any further. The chimichangas were overall, made poorly & were disgusting!!!!. There was too much oil, indicating the grease was not drained from the burrito after frying & the filling's consistency was off. The consensus amongst my entire party of 6, was that the steak meat in all of our dishes was over cooked, very tough, hard to chew & was not seasoned. The bill came with so many add on charges that we had to inquire about. The waitress need to inform guests that chips n salsa is not complimentary after 1 basket, specific flavors of margaritas cost different prices & "suiza" (cheese) on dishes is an additional fee. Most sauces (sour cream) usually accompanies your meal. It should not be an additional charge for those. The bill was altered, finalized & paid after discussing the many add ons that were not mentioned up front with the waitress. In closing, this place does not meet the mark for Mexican cuisine. The chips n salsa & margarita was ok but the food was bland & overcooked! No reason to return to Margaritas ever again.
