The food was pretty tasty and flavorful, so no complaints there. That said, the portion size was surprisingly small honestly one of the smallest burritos I've gotten at a Mexican restaurant. I could have easily eaten two. Also worth noting there were no sides included no rice or beans and no chips and salsa, and I wasn't even offered water, just a bit of salsa for the burrito itself. I see after I should have ordered a dinner and wish I was corrected or offered when ordering. I just missed it. Overall, decent taste and friendly staff but left still very hungry. OMG!! Our plans for dinner at Mott's (doesn't serve hamburger after 7pm unless you are at the bar, stupid) got cancelled. We walked across here and so glad we did. This Mexican food was fresh and amazing. We got the sope, nice a crispy with beans and al pastor meat. I could have eaten 100 of them, delicious. My wife got birria tacos which were crispy and the stew/sauce was flavorful. My kids got burritos which were so big they can barely finish them. We were full after eating. We ordered the quesabirria and horchata. It was empty inside when we arrived on a Monday around 5pm but they were getting a lot of phone orders. Food came out relatively quickly. The horchata was really good! Very well balanced, it was on the less sweeter side of ones that I've tried but I prefer this way. The quesabirria was super crispy and flavor was good! It had a bit of a kick to it which made it even better. The meat is very tender and the consome adds so much more flavor and juiciness. It was very filling that we had to take to-go. The food here is delicious and the decoration inside is super cute! I've been here a few times and the server/cashier is really nice. I got the veggie tostada and al pastor tostada which were delicious. So many toppings and they double up on the tostada shells for structural integrity. The veggie tostada had some broccoli which was a nice variation from just bell peppers. Another time I got the steak fajita dinner and veggie fajita dinner for takeout. This was also really delicious and filling. We wanted to try the shrimp fajitas but they ran out of shrimp. The food takes a bit of time to come out since everything is cooked fresh. I've passed by Tacos & Burrito Express many times and finally had the opportunity to pop in for a to-go dinner order. I came on the a whim, 30 minutes before close (they close at 9:00 pm), and was hungry for something satisfying and filling. I decided on the Taco Dinner (2 tacos) that comes with rice & beans. I got the steak taco and the fish taco. Both were made to order and you get to choose between taco toppings: lettuce and tomatoes, or onions and cilantro. I went the traditional route and got the onions and cilantro, and their tacos are served on double corn tortillas. The food was ready within 10 minutes, and while they have tables for a sit-down meal, I think most of their patrons do carry-out. I asked for salsa verde and spicy salsa to-go and they came in small tubs. Next time, I would ask for a few extra tubs of salsa verde. The restaurant was bright and colorful on the inside, and while I was waiting for my order, they had a comfortable spot to the side where you can sit down and wait. I don't get it. I had high hopes for this place due to the great reviews that I saw across platforms. Unfortunately, as someone who is an authentic taco connoisseur, I was disappointed with my meal. I ordered 3 asada tacos (authentic style) along with chips and salsa. I was provided with a small bag of old chips and a generous portion of salsa. My small tacos felt like they had been topped with grease before being packaged & served to me. When I took my first bite, I could see grease being squeezed out. Furthermore, there was very minimal taste and the steak tasted old (to complement the old chips). i was kind of mixed between what to give this place as many have said that it is the best, but I thought it was ok. When I say "ok", I do not mean that anything was bad, but this is basically a standard taco stand. We have hundreds of them in Chicago. I traveled specifically here to try it because it got rave reviews. I was mildly disappointed, but stayed with 4 stars because it was generally good and its a small business which is always nice. Like I mentioned, it was a pretty standard taco stand with the same menu. I thought the prices were a little high, but the food that I got was pretty filling and bountiful. It took them a little longer than expected to make my food which was three tacos and guacamole. I take that two ways: The Good: all the food is fresh. The not so good: they have major kitchen issues because it still was suspiciously long for tacos and guac. As for the tacos, they were jam packed with meat which was nice. The steak had a little bit of a greasy taste which is what made me not be thrilled with the taco as much. It still was good and did the trick, but I traveled for these tacos and I could have gotten some better closer to my own house. The Guacamole was good, but nothing special with that either. I had a couple of friends talk about the salsa being really good. It tasted the same as any other Mexican place's salsa. I know this is a bit of a roller coaster review here, but I was slightly disappointed in the place. Maybe my expectations were too high. If I am in the area, I would likely return, but I am not traveling all the way to Wicker park for this food! In short, it was good, but not THAT good! read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! I get tacos here at least once a week. The food here is finger-licking good! I even drink up the leftover salsa verde. My favorite item here are the steak tacos with cilantro onion. I get these every week! The beef is so well seasoned and flavorful and the tortillas are perfect. Both salsa verde and salsa rojo are great, but I prefer salsa verde. I literally drink it up! The rice and beans here are also very well made and full of flavor. I have also tried the beef tongue tacos from here and they are pretty good! I've had beef tongue tacos from other places and they are awful, but I would get them from here again. Sour cream is a pollutant that has no place in, on, or near good Mexican food. Applying it is a form of vandalism and should be regarded as a punishable offense by civilized people. Unless you're in Southern California where different rules and canned black olive slices--oh the horror--apply.) TB#3's are taco-sized tacos, with the requisite two tortillas per. The bottom / outer tortilla serves as a reinforcement and moisture barrier for the upper / inner tortIllas upon which the above fillings are heaped, but not overly heaped. Properly constructed, the tortillas should come to just above the halfway point of the filling. More filling will just fall unceremoniously into your tray and throw off the salty masa to filling ratio which, like a good martini, is maddeningly difficult to get right. Al Pastor resides in the upper pantheon of pork, where it hangs out with hardwood-smoked BBQ ribs, braised ribs, Southern Ham, prosciutto, Spanish jamon, nitrate / nitrite-free bacon (that shit'll kill you), and Chinese red-braised pork, drinking bourbon and smoking pre-embargo Cuban cigars. Al Pastor is vertically spit-roasted pork, the euphoric marriage of Lebanese and Central Mexican spices. Properly cooked, it is flame-crisped bits and succulence. It's what shawarma and gyros aspire to be when they grow up. Lengua is beef tongue. Legua has an almost meltingly-soft texture when it's cooked properly. TB#3 cooks lengua properly. "Ohmigod, tongue? Really? No way." Way. Shut up and order it and don't tell the reluctant among your party what it is. They'll thank you for it later and forever after revere you for your refined and nuanced palette. Chile reelleño. What's the first word? Chile. It's not called a batterito. A chile relleño is supposed to be an homage to the chile pepper, cheese-stuffed and wrapped in a light, golden coat. The key to the chile relleño is the batter and the cooking. Most places blow it with batter so thick and dense it's like eating a kitchen sponge made of dough. Sponges being absorbent, the botched relleño retains about a quart of oil. This is why you feel like you blacked out and ate your sofa after a substandard relleño. TB#3 performs the entire orchestration with deftness and precision. Every other visit, or if you stop by for "breakfast" at noon, rotate in a chorizo taco. Like the al pastor, lengua, and chile relleño, they do an exceptional job with their chorizo. Pro tip: red salsa for the al pastor and lengua, green salsa for the relleño. Christmas (that's half red and half green) for the chorizo. You may demonstrate your gratitude by judiciously passing this along to your family and very best friends. If you're feeling particularly thankful kindly request that the owners -- this is a family-run joint with mom and dad doing the cooking and the son ringing up orders--affix a discreet brass plaque that says "GeorgeNCopy" on the second table from the right-hand side of the entrance.
