Love me some Tacos Cancun. It's my tex mex go to when in Wasilla. All foods I've gotten from here has been stellar, with reasonable prices during this day and age. Chips to start, with a salsa bar to spoon mild to hot and other funsies. Stand in line and order, given a number and find a place to sit. I'm a fan of booths, but tables when not. Every item I've ordered is has been enough for two meals. Dig the salads, but also like the chimichangas. Good service from start to finish. Recommend and will come again many more times. read more

We dined in a few years ago and I was surprised to see I never wrote a review. We remembered the tacos were good and we were freezing while dining in. I don't usually order Mexican takeout because it's always soggy by the time we get home, so we ordered the taco box to go and it didn't disappoint!! I placed the order in advance online and able to enter in what time we picked it up. I received a text message when the order was placed and again when it was ready for pickup. Everything was packed up in reusable lidded containers and packed in a box. We chose all beef (you can choose chicken or both), soft and crunchy shells, there were 6 of each... it comes with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream for toppings, along with large containers of beans & rice and feeds 5 people!! I don't live in Wasilla, so first time visit. Walking in, I thought of a local taco spot...fyi not a bad thing. I didn't know what I wanted, so I asked the cashier for her opinion on what I was deciding...very helpful and I didn't feel rushed. I placed my order, took a number and chose my seat. Loved the yellow booths, really made it pop. I ordered a southwest salad because I'm trying to watch my weight haha. My 7 y/o daughter wanted 2 tacos, so I didn't get a kids plate. Why did I listen to her? She ate 1 and maybe a few spoonfuls of rice. Anyway, maybe 3 mins of finding our seat, someone brought out chips. The different types of salsa and sliced limes were by the door (convenient for people staying or taking). The waiter brought out an activity sheet with crayons too. As I was sitting, they had the Mexican music going and the football on. Felt like a bar, but family vibe with a Mexican flair. Now to the food, it was delivered to the table in less than 10 minutes of placing the order. My salad was delicious (no brownness besides my chicken) and I took a bite of my daughter's shrimp taco along with the rice and beans to share in this review. It was white rice instead of the other Mexican rice I'm used to, but it was good. My daughter loved all of it also. To top it off, my daughter spotted the balloons by the door. She asked one of the waitress and she told her she could choose one. That topped it off for her!! My dining companions went for the taco salad and the halibut tacos (which was a lot more food than they were expecting and prices a little above average than at home, but that's normal), with a pretty extensive menu. I was trying to decide between the mangonada and the chocoflan and asked the girl at the counter which one she preferred. While the chocoflan was a little bit more around $10, she said this batch of mangonada tasted a little more like lime. Cute restaurant, with large windows to check out the beautiful mountains surrounding Palmer / Wasilla. So you walk in, check out the menu board, and order at the front register. There's a salsa bar to pick out whatever you're in the mood for. As soon as you sit, someone brings you a large portion of chips. Shortly after that our entrees were delivered. The start of the show was definitely the carne asada fries. The tortillas holding my tacos didn't taste that good- fresh or reheated. But over all excellent flavor on everything ordered. This place never disappoints! We've been going to Tacos Cancun for quite a few years now and every single time, they hit it out of the park! And to say they have the hardest working crew in Wasilla is an understatement! Everyone is constantly busting their butts. They are very attentive to the customers and are always checking to see if everything is good and if we need anything. Tacos in Alaska. I know, I had my doubts too. But you would be missing out if you skipped Tacos Cancun. Service: The restaurant is clean and well maintained, with both indoor and outdoor seating. I can imagine it being a great hangout spot in the summer. You order at the counter, get a number, and then choose your own seat. There is plenty of booth and table seating. Staff is regularly cleaning and bussing tables. The people at the counter are friendly and quick to take your order. They have a clear and organized system, and they appear to offer DoorDash as well. Just be aware that there is a small surcharge for debit or credit card purchases. Food came out in about five minutes. Food: There were several items on the menu that caught my attention including lengua, fish tacos, and the two chile rellenos plate. I went with a classic choice this time and ordered carne asada tacos with a side of rice and beans, plus chips and salsa and a fountain Diet Coke. The total was about 25 dollars with an 18 percent tip. The Diet Coke tasted right from the fountain. There is a small but strong salsa bar. My personal favorite was the thick molcajete salsa. They also had mild, medium, hot, and green hot salsas. I tried them all and was pleasantly surprised. I recommend using the molcajete for your chips and the green salsa for your tacos. Everything was as hearty and spicy as you want it to be. On the salsa bar, there were also lime wedges, jalapeños, ranch, and a small selection of condiments like mustard and mayo packets. Now, about the chips. This is usually a big deciding factor for me at any taco spot. These looked solid. I am not sure if they are made in-house, but they appear to be white corn chips. They are kept warm at the front in heaters and served fresh to your table. As for the rice and beans, I probably would not order them again. Not because they were bad, just because I personally do not love rice and beans like that. The rice was good, red, and tomato-based. Not too soggy but also not super fluffy. The beans were fried and topped with what looked like two kinds of cheese, possibly cheddar and jack. Concerns: I do not have any major concerns. Just be aware that around 8 PM it got very busy. The line went out the door. This is not a complaint about how they run things. It is more of a heads-up. Would I come back? Would I change anything? Yes, I will definitely be back for lunch or dinner. Next time, I will skip the rice and beans and order a third taco à la carte. Nothing against the rice and beans, I just prefer more tacos. Overall: By the end of my meal, the line was healthy and stretching outside. I have driven by many times and often see the place packed. Based on this visit, it makes sense. Around 7:30 PM seemed like a good time to get in before the rush. Solid tacos, fast service, and definitely a place worth revisiting. read more

I made the mistake of ordering the Deluxe Burrito from Tacos Cancun Mexican Grill for takeout, and I genuinely wish I hadn't. What I got was one of the most revolting things I've ever put in my mouth. I usually love a good wet burrito, messy, saucy, full of flavor. This? This wasn't that. At first glance, it looked passable. But the second it hit my tongue, I realized I'd made a grave error. The sauce tasted like it was strained from someone's flu symptoms, thin, vaguely tomato-ish, and with a mucous-like texture I can't un-think. And the ground beef? It was cold. Not room temperature, cold. And worse, half-raw. Not rare, raw. Like it skipped the stovetop entirely and got dumped in straight from the meat tray. It's stomach-turning to think this even left the kitchen. If I'd taken just a second to look more closely, or known what kind of slop they were serving, I never would have brought this home. To make matters worse, when I paid, I got slapped with a 4% card fee, and then shoved into a tip prompt for takeout. The minimum suggested tip? Eighteen percent. For what, exactly? No one spoke to me. No one served me. Some server just grabbed the container of undercooked garbage, dropped it into a bag, and slapped a sticker on it like it was a biohazard sample. When I hit "skip" on the tip screen, she looked at me like I'd just insulted her ancestors. I don't usually leave reviews, but this place deserves the warning. The food was inedible and possibly dangerous. The attitude was entitled. And the restaurant itself? Decorated like someone let a Hot Topic manager design a Taco Bell in 1998. In hindsight, I should've turned around the second I saw their website begging for cooks. That was the first red flag. But I ignored it. That's on me. The rest? That's entirely on them. Many restaurants in the area close at 8 p.m., but thankfully Tacos Cancun was open until 9 p.m. The gal who took our order was friendly and helpful. After we paid, we went to the salsa bar, and we were very pleased with all of the choices. The tortilla chips were brought to our table right away, and they were warm and tasty. If you're in Wasilla, this is a sure place to go for Mexican style food. We were visiting from Tampa and decided to take a drive and take a chance at this place. Not disappointed at all. Huge portions of everything. I had the Carne Asada burrito huge flavorful hot. And Crispy taco. My wife had the chicken fajitas. Super friendly staff and very accommodating. They seem very happy to work there. They even gave you free chips and salsa while you wait for them to prepare and serve your meal. The place is super clean and constantly cleaning up. We are definitely going to make the drive from Anchorage again. as an added bonus, they also gave us a military discount. It was PLENTY of food for both if us and we took half a burrito with us to eat later in the day. The food had great flavor and the ingredients were fresh. The salsa bar had a good variety of ways to further enhance the flavors. Finally, the restaurant was clean and well lit AND they had great customers service. I really enjoyed my first meal here! Friendly staff, fast service and wonderful food. I had steak fajitas. They came out sizzling and the meat to veggie ratio on this one was spot on to my preference. Not too many veggies and didn't feel cheated on the meat. Another positive was that I opened my tortilla lid and there were 5 tortillas! Was nice to have 5 full tortillas full of fajita. I will ask for more sour cream next time only because I consider it a food group. Otherwise the condiment potions were good to go. I did like the atmosphere as it wasn't anything extra special but was comfortable and Mexican themed. Being my first time there I won't sit next to the bathroom next time. Second time here in the last couple weeks. Tried the carnitas and shrimp taco platter this time and I was very, VERY happy. Both tacos had great portions, tasty tortillas, and plenty of cilantro. The second order on the ticket was carne asada without tomatoes. When we arrived home, the order was exactly as we asked. Even though they were busy, our takeout order did not take long at all. Food was great, everything we ordered done right and tasted very good. But food itself won't get you a 5 star review. We were on our way from Denali down to Anchorage, and got some road problems and bad weather on the drive, left us with 10 hungry people at 11 at night, 30 minutes away from any food options. Found this place on Yelp, decided to call them and spoke over the phone with Quenten (hoping I spell that right), and we figured out an arrangement to order our food ahead of time and have it there waiting for us when we get there. Quentin had the table ready for us and the food was ready by the time we got there. Carne Asada fries were very good, as well as all of the tacos - especially the beef tounge and Halbut tacos. They also have a very good shredded beef taco in the picture attached (tacos poblanos). In addition, some delicious Salsa from the salsa bar, among the best I've ever had. I live across the country so I doubt I'll be back in the area but for anyone else looking for something quick but very good, definitely come here.
