Before and after pictures of my Panchita Burrito at La Fiesta. I practically inhaled my plate!
Julie T.

So my friend tells me this restaurant has the best mexican food. We'te visiting in Valdez and it's about a 5 hour drive to Palmer, but what the heck, girls trip! I ordered the Panchita Burrito, which had chile verde pork, rice and beans inside the burrito. I have to say she wasn't kidding! The food was SO good and the service was exceptional. Our server Ashley was so sweet and personable, I'll be asking for her next time I'm here. And yes, I'll definitely be going back! See my before and after pictures.

Carnitas Street Tacos (we ordered Carne Asada)

First time trying this place. Probably the last. My wings looked so delicious but when I bit into one, it was still cold, nearly frozen! My spouse ordered carne asada but got carnitas tacos and the pork tasted old. No authentic margaritas, only wine margaritas which was wine mixed with juice. Very sad, hopefully it was an off day? The waiters were very nice and apologetic. Probably the worst $100 I've spent at a restaurant though.

Chips and salsa!

I would say this was like a trip to your least liked family gathering, but your favorite cousin shows up...so it turns out to be okay. Let's start with the positives: + The portion size was good. For instance, my rancheros tacos had double tortillas, a healthy portion of meat, and plenty of fresh toppings (pico, guac, and cheese). They brought a whole other plate with the rice and beans. + The hot salsa had a distinctly different (and tasty flavor) from the mild salsa. + Chips were Fer - RESH! And they brought out a second batch (and salsas). Both were complimentary. + For Alaska, I felt like the prices were good. Whole meal for two people, under 40...seemed good! And now, the deltas (that's a positive way of saying negatives) - - Service was a little slow / disjointed. For instance, our waters, which were empty before we received our food, weren't filled back up until our food was entirely eaten. - - The kitchen was a little off, maybe? My food came out in pieces. First the rice and beans, then maybe 5 minutes later (after my rice and beans were almost gone, the tacos). And the meat was dry and chewy in the tacos. - - The mild salsa has a heavy taste of tomato sauce...like the kind you get in a can. Lack of fresh ingredients? Lack of time to put into salsa? - - The outside sitting area is okay IF it's not packed. It's a tight area so if all tables are full, it's quite noisy and even a little claustrophobic. Traffic also reverberates off the walls of the surrounding buildings making it even more noisy! Staff was semi friendly. No beer/ spirits on the patio.

Chicken Chimichanga

We went on a Friday afternoon after a morning of hiking the Matanuska glacier. Found a seat quickly and were served chips right away. The salsa was disappointing, too much tomato and very little flavor. My kid did not like the cheese enchilada I ordered off the kid's menu. He ended up eating the vegetarian fajita I had ordered for myself. The stir fried vegetables were a little bland and I had to add lots of salt and pepper to it. The pricing was good compared to everywhere else we had eaten in Alaska. But, definitely room for improvement with the food. The staff was friendly and providing my son with coloring sheets and a whole box of crayon was very much appreciated!

So much food it's spilling off the plate!

First time eating here, thanks to Who Let the Girls Out. Chicken enchiladas and beef tacos very good, their salsa is actually very good too, much better than Hacienda. Wait staff pretty friendly. Would come back.

I don't usually order Mexican takeout because it's always soggy by the time we get home, so we ordered the taco box to go and it didn't disappoint!! I placed the order in advance online and able to enter in what time we picked it up. I received a text message when the order was placed and again when it was ready for pickup. Everything was packed up in reusable lidded containers and packed in a box. We chose all beef (you can choose chicken or both), soft and crunchy shells, there were 6 of each... it comes with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream for toppings, along with large containers of beans & rice and feeds 5 people!! It was excellent and I won't hesitate to order it again!

I've always been a fan--I used to go to their Eagle River location all the time when I lived out there. My all-time favorite is their green avocado salsa. It is unreal. Honestly, I'd drive from South Anchorage just for that alone and feel zero shame about it. Their margarita flight is fantastic, and the guava margarita is my personal favorite--super good and really well balanced. Food-wise, everything I've had has been on point: * Fajita quesadilla * Fajita tacos * Classic fajitas No misses. Their chips are always fresh, and both the hot and mild salsas are really good (which matters more than people admit). This place lives rent-free in my head anytime I'm heading to the Valley, and my husband and I almost always stop in for lunch when we're out that way. Big fan. Consistently good food, solid drinks, and always worth the stop. Service is always great, and the setup inside is so cute. I love the vibe, the decor, and especially the deck--it's just really well done. You can tell a lot of thought went into the space. Seriously, good job all around.

I strongly recommend thier deluxe burritos. -I always get the shredded beef but understand other meats are just as good. You really have to think about your meal, every detail is fresh and put together well. The rice falls apart but isn't stiff, the salsa bar has wonderful variety and they never look at me odd when I keep piling more on. The service is and has always been very friendly, super fast, and they keep the restaurant so clean that I always avoid leaving spills or crumbs just as a small thank you. This is like Hank Williams, George Straight, Garth Brooks style country. Maybe I'm weird and they are spot on. Who knows? The food was out quite fast, which was great. I've never had a place put a chip in the beans so the overlapping taco shells don't get soggy. That was a huge win! It's the small things. The salsa bar was great. I really enjoyed the kick of the hot and green ones. The mild tasted a little weird. The tacos were tasty, the rice and beans slightly above average and solidly portioned. The staff at the register attentive and friendly. The dining room could handle a variety of four person groups and could easily be situated to accommodate larger parties of probably 8-12.

It's nice and modern looking, and doesn't have the usual annoyingly loud Mexican music that is present in some places. There's lots of TV's showing sports, and quite decent music playing on the speakers. They have a very nice feature fireplace too. I ordered 2 crispy tacos with ground beef and french fries, (my benchmark, with which i will judge the quality of your food) and husband got the posole. I'm not even kidding, i thought Taco King was fast service, but this beat even them. This is fast food, in a non fast food setting. It was lovely and warm, as i had a heater right next to my seat. Anyway, the food. It wasn't bad. Definitely not the best I've had, and also not the worst. The round beef was ok, but maybe a tad heavy on the cumin. I do love cumin, but i prefer it to be balanced where it's indistinguishable from other spices, and in this taco beef, it was cumin forward. That being said, I'd eat it again over fast food any day. It's the service that made me give an extra star. Our server was friendly, fast, and helpful. And the place was nice, just what we needed after a long, aching back drive to -42 degree Cantwell and back, with a hair-raising skid along the way. I forgot to even take pictures, sorry. It was just that kind of a day.

The Carnitas were moist but missing that same oomph that the Asada offered. I also tried the Guisado Plate: pork short ribs bone in stewed in a Verde sauce. Super good, flavor on flavor and tender! The Mexican hotdog was basically a Sonoran Dog minus the mayo (thank god) it was good, not Tucson good, but good. The street corn in a cup was my least favorite.
