After leaving another restaurant nearby, my party of 5 decided to try the Mexican restaurant recommendation given to us at our local hotel. We started off by viewing the menu which is a nice selection and reasonably priced. I chose the fajita salad with grilled chicken, hubby had a Burrito Grande, my brother and sister in law both had combo dinners, and my nephew chose four enchiladas. Food came out quickly and everyone enjoyed the dinner. The amazing service we received from a young waiter was exceptional - he remembered every dish without writing down an order - and was spot on. He checked on us, bringing out extra salsa quickly and efficiently. The restaurant is decorated in bright lively colors with typical Mexican decor. This place used to be great! but with the new ownership the service has gone downhill big time. My wife and I went in on 4/14/2026 at 12:30 P.M. We got the menus delivered to us and that's where it ended. No Water, no chips, NOTHING! 15 minutes we waited only to watch a couple come in way behind us get served water and chips. WOW wasn't expecting this , we had eaten here for several years but never never never waited for 10 minutes to EVEN see a waitress yes 10 minutes and that was with 8 people already seated throughout , so she played catch up taking orders , this is a new owner since our last visit in October 2025 , not sure why anyone would take something that worked successfully for years and throw it out the window !! So my friend tells me this restaurant has the best mexican food. We'te visiting in Valdez and it's about a 5 hour drive to Palmer, but what the heck, girls trip! I ordered the Panchita Burrito, which had chile verde pork, rice and beans inside the burrito. I have to say she wasn't kidding! The food was SO good and the service was exceptional. First time trying this place. Probably the last. My wings looked so delicious but when I bit into one, it was still cold, nearly frozen! My spouse ordered carne asada but got carnitas tacos and the pork tasted old. No authentic margaritas, only wine margaritas which was wine mixed with juice. Very sad, hopefully it was an off day? The waiters were very nice and apologetic. Probably the worst $100 I've spent at a restaurant though. read more

Sadly I feel the need to downgrade my opinion of La Fiesta. I know they were looking for cooks recently and the service has gone downhill with one or two of the staff, but not all. We almost walked out a few weeks ago after sitting at a table for 20 minutes without water, menus, anything while the server disappeared for minutes on end or chatted with other customers that she wasn't even waiting on. The other server was watching and sensed our mood and finally came over, apologized for the other server, and got us going. Then to top it off the food was really not good. I always get the same thing and it was really off. We stayed away for a few weeks but went back the other evening and luckily 2 of their best servers were working and we were treated very well. Sadly, the food was awful. It was tasteless and was nothing like what we normally get there. We were also surprised that it was straight up dinner time and there were never more than 3 groups of people dining at once. Service was excellent, and the chips were excellent. My meal however, was sub standard. I got a seafood chimichanga, that oddly enough had mushrooms, and a shrimp that hadn't been de-veined. Rice, and bean lacked seasoning and were slightly cold. My wife's dish stole the show though. Meat so tough that she slipped with the knife and almost broke the plate. I would say this was like a trip to your least liked family gathering, but your favorite cousin shows up...so it turns out to be okay. Let's start with the positives: + The portion size was good. For instance, my rancheros tacos had double tortillas, a healthy portion of meat, and plenty of fresh toppings (pico, guac, and cheese). They brought a whole other plate with the rice and beans. + The hot salsa had a distinctly different (and tasty flavor) from the mild salsa. + Chips were Fer - RESH! And they brought out a second batch (and salsas). Both were complimentary. + For Alaska, I felt like the prices were good. Whole meal for two people, under 40...seemed good! And now, the deltas (that's a positive way of saying negatives) - - Service was a little slow / disjointed. For instance, our waters, which were empty before we received our food, weren't filled back up until our food was entirely eaten. - - The kitchen was a little off, maybe? My food came out in pieces. First the rice and beans, then maybe 5 minutes later (after my rice and beans were almost gone, the tacos). And the meat was dry and chewy in the tacos. - - The mild salsa has a heavy taste of tomato sauce...like the kind you get in a can. Lack of fresh ingredients? Lack of time to put into salsa? - - The outside sitting area is okay IF it's not packed. It's a tight area so if all tables are full, it's quite noisy and even a little claustrophobic. Traffic also reverberates off the walls of the surrounding buildings making it even more noisy! Staff was semi friendly. No beer/ spirits on the patio. read more

We went on a Friday afternoon after a morning of hiking the Matanuska glacier. Found a seat quickly and were served chips right away. The salsa was disappointing, too much tomato and very little flavor. My kid did not like the cheese enchilada I ordered off the kid's menu. He ended up eating the vegetarian fajita I had ordered for myself. The stir fried vegetables were a little bland and I had to add lots of salt and pepper to it. The pricing was good compared to everywhere else we had eaten in Alaska. But, definitely room for improvement with the food. The staff was friendly and providing my son with coloring sheets and a whole box of crayon was very much appreciated! read more

Our waitress knew their whole menu thoroughly and let me know how to order a meal that was vegetarian (a few things on the menu use chicken stock. This was the worst Mexican food I've ever had! The first indicator that the food wasn't going to be good was the ketchup-like salsa with no spicy heat. The second was that they don't serve tequila! (Only beer & wine are served). Regardless of my misgivings, I ordered the enchiladas with halibut. The fish was way overcooked and the entire meal was tasteless. I tried a friend's burrito that tasted terrible as well. I couldn't finish the meal & just ate the bland tortilla chips (plain, since I didn't like the ketchup. Sorry, I mean salsa). Since I was on vacation in Alaska, I decided right then and there to avoid all Mexican food in the 49th state! I love this place! We live close by and find our selves here frequently. The staff is super friendly and you can't find a quicker lunch or dinner in Palmer! Even when they are busy the food is out in about 10 minutes. My favorite is the seafood quesadilla - crab, shrimp, onions, mushrooms, cheese....mmmmm. So yummy. About 15 tabes/booths. A little improvement from our visit 2 years ago. I went on Saturday night (7pm) and it took a while to get a table. Once we got a table it took a while for our server to give us chips & salsa. The busser eventually gave us our chips and salsa. When our server finally came to take our order, there was no customer service. You could tell she was overwhelmed, pissed off, and didn't want to be there. So that was not enjoyable. After we order, our food came within 15 minute, and it was hot! But not very flavorful, it was just ok. Nothing impressive. We really enjoyed the salsa, that's about it. Not sure if I can recommend this place. The cooks here care so little about the food that you may get 6 hour old French fries cooked into your fajitas. Anyway, I wanted to say I had a great dinner here, probably the best Mexican entre I've had in all of Alaska. I recently had the beef Chimi grande and it was terrible.There was no cheese in the chimi and I was also expecting shredded beef not ground beef. And the flavor couldn't have been more repulsive. Its a shame I ate here many years ago and was very pleased. Would have given them a 4 in the past and really that is the only reason I give a 2 star now. What a wonderful find in Palmer. We've eaten there twice this week and can't wait to go back. The food is exceptional, and it was like Esther welcomed us into her home with the hospitality she shared. The carnitas are terrific. Crunchy outside, juicy and flavorful inside. The Pico is fresh, chilled and just the right combination. Salsas and fresh jalapeños provide a nice variety of spice. We have eaten outside both times. It's clean and comfortable with great service. Solid food. My tostada compuesta, $11.25, was huge, although the refried beans felt soup like. The lettuce looked a little sad and wilted floating atop the heap of beans and meat. The burrito Del Mar, $12.59, had a great sauce. The flavors weren't great, comforting is probably the best description. Our server was attentive. The place itself was kind of dirty. The hostess said to sit anywhere but the two large free booths had dirty dishes. The staff also loudly complained about a woman who didn't like her take out. They said she was upset about burnt chips. One guy said, "you can't burn chips in the microwave." I'm not saying they can't complain, but moving it to the back would be a good move. read more
