If you're going here for girl dinner = drinks and apps it's a 5/5. We had the best margs, chips + salsa, and their queso is amazing. Apps, drinks, and server was amazing (he likes cool pens- and is known for it) amazing customer service!!! Chicken fajita salad 3/5 only cause there wasn't really seasoning on the chicken. Everything else on the salad was good. Steak fajitas 3/5 for the same reason. We will be back to try other entrees and enjoy the heck out of apps+ drinks!! read more

Ever since they moved into their new location, Chepo's has been absolutely killing it. The food and drinks have been so good lately. I've always been a fan--I used to go to their Eagle River location all the time when I lived out there. My all-time favorite is their green avocado salsa. It is unreal. Honestly, I'd drive from South Anchorage just for that alone and feel zero shame about it. Their margarita flight is fantastic, and the guava margarita is my personal favorite--super good and really well balanced. Food-wise, everything I've had has been on point: * Fajita quesadilla * Fajita tacos * Classic fajitas No misses. Their chips are always fresh, and both the hot and mild salsas are really good (which matters more than people admit). This place lives rent-free in my head anytime I'm heading to the Valley, and my husband and I almost always stop in for lunch when we're out that way. Big fan. Consistently good food, solid drinks, and always worth the stop. Service is always great, and the setup inside is so cute. The atmosphere is upscale and attracts a business casual crowd. The menu offers a strong selection of lunch and dinner options, along with an impressive drink menu. Unfortunately, the execution fell far short of expectations. I ordered the Halibut Tacos, and when they arrived, every component was cold. The fried fish, beans, and rice were all served below room temperature. For a restaurant presenting itself as an upscale dining experience, serving hot food should be the most basic expectation. Our server was polite and professional, but service was lacking throughout the meal. After our food was delivered, he only returned once to bring a second round of drinks. The drinks took about 15 minutes to arrive, and one was made incorrectly. By the time he returned with the check, we had already finished eating, so there was no practical opportunity to have the drink corrected. The problems seemed to stem more from understaffing or poor coordination between the kitchen and bar than from the server himself. There is clear potential here, but cold food, slow service, and incorrect drinks significantly detracted from the experience. For the atmosphere, pricing, and expectations this restaurant sets, guests should at the very least receive hot food and attentive service. read more

Excellent food and service. Outside eating area in good weather. If you are a customer of Chepo's Eagle River then you find the service and food at this new location equally good. The sometimes the parking is in excess of their parking lot and you can park in the road frontage. They have developed a large clientele since opening in the Valley. The servers are friendly and efficient. The prices are comparable to Alaskan and the Valley for similar venues and food. And they gave me A HALF of a mini tomato!! Not even a full one. I am so utterly disgusted with this so called CHEPOS. They only gave us cream cheese instead of the Jalepeno one that it literally says on the menu. ABSOUTLY HORRIED. NO flavor in anything, the meat tasted like hotdog water. This place is delicious!!!!! I am a huge fan of Mexican food and so whenever I go I have to get a combo plate cuz I wanna try a little bit of everything. First and foremost the chips n salsa are amazing and I recommend asking for the avocado salsa it's delish! I got the combo carnitas taco, chile relleno, brisket enchilada with white sauce. THE CHILE RELLENO WAS FANTASTIC THE BRISKET WAS SMOKEY AND DELISH!!! The taco was good but I think next time I'll try maybe the chicken or something. Very nice interior since the upgrade (you can compare photos) with plenty of seating both inside and out. The bar area is beautiful and they have an amazing metal cutout of Mexico on the wall that's backlit with some cool colors, and also has a little touch of Alaskan flare :) However, the food was solidly a bit less than okay. Well we were in Wasilla for 4 nights. We ate here 3 of the 4. The service was great. The food was amazing. The building and decor are top notch and the margarita selection is second to none. The first time I visited Chepos --after they opened up again in their new building... I was not too enthused. It seemed they had been lacking in their table service/servers area. But I had brushed that aside as I assume most businesses won't always be perfect in every department especially after re-opening in a new location. Half a year later though, I've stopped by again and everything was so much better!! Service was amazing, constant refilling of warm chips and mild/hot salsas. Food was delicious and hot, most of the time it comes within 10-15 minutes (unless it's a super busy Friday night) And the drinks!! Oh the DRINKS! The drinks are the main reason I've (unfortunately haha) come back so many times. So much so that I've even introduced friends to the drinks here and they've loved them as much as myself! I'd rather go here for drinks over probably any other place in Wasilla (please note, I am a frutti tutti cocktail drink snob lol) All of their margaritas are exquisite. My friend bought one of their coconut Mojitos (white drink in picture) and in her words; 'this is exactly what I needed right now!' The drinks are reasonably priced too (for todays economy of course) I will note that the atmosphere can be a bit loud at times depending on if they have live music or if they are very busy. It took about an hour to get our food. We knew what we wanted before we arrived but the kitchen just seemed to be slow tonight. My big issue with this place is the price tag. I understand we are living in more increasingly expensive times and that prices are subject to changes in the economy. What I *do not* understand or like is that there seems to be inconsistencies here with costs. Today I ordered a flavored margarita. The bill arrived and on the itemized breakdown we were charged for a flavored margarita but then there was an extra charge for 'coconut,' which is listed under the flavors. Why the extra charge? My husband prefers mezcal over tequila and they've charged him various "open bottle" rates to put mezcal in instead of tequila. This is also inconsistent. We have been charged as little as $3 but over $10 depending on the date. Again - why charge? If you're upping the fee to balance the cost of the mezcal that's one thing but when we asked we were told it was because they had to "open the bottle." You operate a full bar. We didn't bring the mezcal, it's on your menu, a bottle opening fee is absurd. I think we will remove this from our regular restaurant rotation and it will be an occasional outing spot for these reasons. Loved this Wasilla area Mexican restaurant. The first restaurant we've experienced in Alaska, in a while, that gave us a "lower 48," aesthetic. The first thing you notice is the building and parking lot are huge. This isn't your typical dark, and cluttered Mexican restaurant experience. Definitely a step or three above. Sorrento's Northern Lights and Tequila 61 in Anchorage, I'd say are comparable as far as aesthetic goes. The interior is clean, bright, and airy. Everything looked new and cared for. The walls, bathrooms, flooring, light fixtures; it's the attention to detail for me. Hostesses were welcoming and helpful. They have a beautiful seated patio out front with TV's placed throughout their space. Our server was the sweetest and most attentive. My spouse wasn't crazy about his tamales but loved everything else, especially the service and drinks. They had kids chicken strips (that they called nuggets) for my son. We hope our experience was an anomaly--it was a bad experience. One of our small group had a birthday and that was mentioned as we were being seated. We waited for a very long time to be waited on even though the place didn't seem to be busy. Our waitress seemed preoccupied and spent very little time with us getting our orders. We waited a very long time for our food to get to us and our appetizers and food came out at the same time even though we had asked for the appetizers to be first. Some of the food was not very warm and our daughter found a food label in her main meal. We ate our entire meal without anyone checking on us or we would have sent some food back to be warmed up. We finished eating and had to wait for a good while for our waitress to finally show up for the first time after she took our orders. We mentioned the Luke-warm food and the label found in one of the meals. She said, "sorry" and walked away. She came back and said her manager would comp us one dessert and it was a specific dessert. By then we were so fed up we just wanted to leave, which after paying we did. It's not cheap to eat at Chepo's so we're not in any hurry at all to go back--especially since there are other very good Mexican restaurants around the Palmer/Wasilla area. We wrote a similar review on Alaska Food Catalog and they wouldn't put it up online--it seems they only take good reviews. read more

This place it great! Open concept, plenty of seating. Friendly staff and a big selection. I was driving my and I saw a lot of cars going in so I had to check it out. I walked in and I sat a the bar without waiting during peak time. The bar has plenty of seating. I ordered the Halibut tacos and they were delicious for sure. There are only two tacos but they are big. It would be the same if they served you three smaller tacos with rice and beans. You will for sure will be full. Front row seating can be good and bad! We ordered the Blackberry margarita from our bartender who was new however very pleasant. The thing we saw is when your drink isn't full you pour all 3 back in the blender and add more soda water then pour back into our glass and then forget to add the berries that come with the drink. We ordered our dinners and I ordered the cheese dip that says it comes with jalapeños tomatoes and when I got the dip there was no tomato's that's when Amber heard us talking and said the tomatoes are only a garnish.. and proceeds to tell us she has worked there for 3 years! The 2 of us after receiving our remote pager device sat in front of the front desk just barely over 30 min while 4 other groups that came after us were seated ahead. Watched as they approached the front desk so we know none of them had reservations . The final straw was when 3 ladies when to the front desk, sat down, then were called up in 5 minutes. Then I approached the front desk and they didn't remember what pager she gave us ((and didn't ask about us while skipping us, but definitely gave eye contact since we were 5 steps away) Might try again, but if the same people are at the front door next time, I'm leaving and going to Hacienda. read more

Fajita trio was tasty and the was plated well. The seafood fundido was a bust. Mostly small shrimp with one scallop floating in a bath of cream cheese with more cheese on top of the burrito. I'm a critic on a mission: To immerse myself into the full dining experience among the many fine restaurants, bistros, cafes, eateries, diners, holes in the wall, and just plain truck stops in this great country, and to review each from within its own context. Establishments get up to 5 stars, one each for: 1st Impression, Menu Selection, Food Quality, Value, and Service. Bon Apetit' First Impression: Zero. I stood, along with 7 other people in a line at the 'wait to be seated' desk for 10 minutes before anyone came to seat me. Mind you, it's 2:30pm on a Monday and there is a sea of available tables. After the woman finally appeared she told me there were no tables would I mind sitting at a bar table. Absolutely abysmal first impression. To be fair, the facility was well appointed, clean, and inviting so they get one star for that. Menu Selection: Zero. After being dropped off by this inattentive and gum snapping maitre d' to my 'bar table' I sat there un-acknowledged for 17- yes seventeen- minutes, while no less than 8- yes eight- different waitstaff walked right by and another 3 standing around yapping by the bar ignoring customers. Despite my attempting to flag down a server, I was never waited on, I never saw a menu. No Star. Food Quality: Zero. The closest I got to assessing food quality or value was as I watched waitstaff bringing plated food to other customers, several of whom I eavesdropped on commenting on their lunches being overpriced and cold because it was taking 'forever' to actually get their orders. No Star. Service: Undoubtedly the WORST service I have ever experienced. After waiting the 17 minutes, I returned to the maitre d's desk to inform her I could not get served at the 'bar table' and that I would like a regular table. She rolled her eyes and told me I'd have to wait for a table! I said no thanx and walked out. A family of 5 who had been sitting in the foyer the whole time I was in the place, still waiting for a table walked out behind me. Keep in mind there was no shortage of staff- several were loitering around looking for something to do- and no shortage of tables - the place looked like a furniture store. No Star. This was really a no-star experience that I am posting as a 1-star only because the restaurant itself was nice. Don't waste your time or money in this place. It is simply terrible. read more

First experience here was great! We came in late after a long day at an event we were vendors at. It was surprisingly busy when we went but we still got quick service and our food quickly! Food here was great! Fresh, hot, delicious! My husband, who is very picky about Mexican food, was raving about it as well. The restaurant looks upscale and classy, it was lovely to admire while we ate. We got dessert here as well, which were like mini cheesecake chimichangas, which were so good! We have gone another time after this experience and everything wasn't as great.
