Our group split the Asada & Carnitas tacos. The tacos had great flavors and fresh ingredients. We were the only table for lunch and service was oddly slow. Overall the restaurant was clean. I wish I could give this place a better star since it's a beautiful fun place to go. We went to brunch after the green market. However the staff that we had was not very interested in our table. We were a table of 5 people so clearly he was going to get a good tip. He should have been more attentive. We had to keep asking for him from other servers. However the icing on the cake was my food. Myself and one of girls ordered "avocado toast" it says "avocado" nothing crazy. So it arrives and it's guacamole toast. I can't eat cilantro. Ok maybe I should have told him. But there is not reason or anywhere on the menu that states it is guacamole. That is false advertisement. I should know what I am getting beforehand. This isnt a Michelin star restaurant where it's based on chefs impulse. We sent it back. We got a piece of toast with only avocados on it. Nothing else. None of the other things listed on the menu that come with it. Plus it was burnt. See photos. We asked for the manger after all of this. Even though we had already enjoyed dinner, a week in Palm Beach would not be complete without sampling the flan. We sat at the bar and watched the staff carrying Rube Goldberg-esque platters of well appointed tacos, suspended from wires and ready to be plucked and eaten. The richness of the flan was to such a degree we knew the correct venue had been selected. We enjoyed every bite while marveling at the unique bottles of tequila, lined up mysteriously along the mirrored bar. It would have been a superb choice to have enjoyed our entire meal there but, unfortunately, there was only so many days to carefully select venues and sample their wares. If we ever return, Tacos Del Cartel, with their humorous name and very worthy tacos will be visited again. Tacos Del Cartel has been around only about 5 months, and it is a great addition to Clematis St in downtown West Palm. Went there with the whole fanily and we tried several tacos. First the chips are freshly made and come with three salsas. The spicy one is HOT. Be advised. I loved it. I put the pics up of the tacos we had and they were scrumptios. Really good. Most are $16-$18 per a serving of three, which is not bad for a downtown upscale taco joint. We sat outside and the ambiance both on the sidewalk and indoor is chic/cool. Great bathrooms too btw. I live nearby and have seen the hype since opening. Huge lines, flashing lights, margarita flights, so I finally decided to give it a try. There were three of us and I made a reservation for 6pm on a Friday night on Open Table. We get there just before our reservation time and a Huge birthday party was being seated. Came to learn we would have to be in a tiny table right next to the large party. Thankfully, the night was breezy and cool and the hostess offered us an outdoor table that was perfect. For the inconvenience they even bought our first round of drinks! Service, especially Eddie, was great! On to the food. Everything was beautifully presented but my mother put it perfectly, salt or any other seasoning, on some dishes, would have taken it further. She said, instead, they douse it with hot sauces that don't elevate the taste, they attack your taste buds. We got the frozen margarita of the day which was strawberry and passion fruit with Tajin on the rim. Best frozen margarita I've ever had! For starters we got the corn croquet and rib eye guacamole, both were good. The guacamole could have used salt. For entrees I got the trompo al pastor, my mom got the fish tacos, and my friend got a sushi roll. Mine had the most flavor of all dishes. A1 on presentation, drinks, ambiance, and service, they just need to make the food more flavorful and not mask flavor with spice. I'm sorry to report that my initial review to this review are not the same. This time around was a true disappointment. We Ordered the tomahawk. When it came out they typically put on a show. This time it wasn't as grand as what I had initially saw during the opening week. We were sitting at the bar as we had no reservation. When they brought everything the fries were cold. I asked the bartender if she could get us fresh ones. As she was coming around to get the fries outta the way I asked about the fire show. She was completely clueless as to what I was referring to. Maybe she's newer to the staff and didn't see the initial presentation. So she had the manager come over to talk to us. In the time he came we realized the corn elote was cold as well as well as the tomahawk. The manager comes over and explains why no more fire presentation due to fire code etc. Ok totally understand that. I proceed to tell him that the steak is Luke warm, fries and corn were cold. He said they could put the steak back on the grill and I said no because it's already over cooked for requesting medium temperature. For the price you pay for a tomahawk at $150+ this should NOT be the way it comes out. The manager was nice enough to give $50 off the bill but to be honest none of it was even worth $100. Not sure if I'll be back. Maybe for happy hour at some point but not for dinner. I understand the rent downtown has to reflect the prices, but at this point from this experience for the most expensive menu item , if it continues to come out this way I'm not going to be the only customer disappointed. Not to mention all the empty dishes sat in front of us at the bar. I had put them all together so that someone working the bar could clear them, but that never happened. Came across Tacos del cartel on IG and was impressed by the atmosphere, drinks and food so I decided it would be perfect for my bday. Website stated reserve up to 15 people but opentable only allowed 10. Called the restaurant but no answer so I messaged and was told to email for a manager's approval. Didn't hear from a manager so I filled out book an event form on website. Crickets...called restaurant again and same manager approval story. Queue violin...sent follow up email and DM'd restaurant on IG. Night before my res amount was modified to 15 with no communication. Greeted by Everton, waitress who was absolutely attentive. Once we situated our seating arrangement, Everton took our drink orders. Unfortunately they did not have the two amazing hyped drinks that wanted - Ayahuasca and Rosanova so I had to settle for the Beeyuzufull which came in a cool bee shaped glass but kind of weird to drink out of. Didn't really taste much tequila but definitely noticed the honey. I had the queso dip for a starter and did not disappoint whatsoever. The manager/staff kept coming over with an attitude to see if all of our party was there as they had more reservations. Some of my guests had told me in advance they would be a bit late but overall 11 out of the 15 that restaurant approved last minute showed up. It is extremely distasteful that no one took the time to respond to any of my emails, calls, etc. but rudely interrupted my bday brunch about the amount of guests. For my entree of course I went with the El Tendedero de Birria because who doesn't appreciate tacos served on a clothes line. Now it was time for shots. The airplane flight only comes with don Julio shots and is a fun spectacle. I tried the yellow colored shot and it just tasted like mango juice. Bring your own tequila as it seems it is nonexistent in the drinks. Ended my meal with mediocre tres leches. Black beans so dead inside they should've come with a toe tag. Chips and drinks arrived late because the crew was short-handed--but damn, they tried, and everyone was painfully nice. The bathrooms? Spotless. Fancy. The kind of bathroom you'd expect in a trendy nightclub, not the backdrop to the flavorless witness protection program I just ate through. History says cartels are ruthless, efficient, and terrifying. This cartel? Ruthless on the wallet, efficient only at collecting parking money, and terrifyingly bland in the kitchen. Very original! The food tasted great, a large group of women went for brunch and we were all very impressed with the flavors. The drinks? Not so much, espresso martinis were extremely bitter, and when I asked for a little bit of kahlua they brought me two full shots and charged me for $24 them without letting me know this upfront . I just needed a few drops not two full shots. My drink ended up costing a total of $40 and my meal was only $18. That's insane to me. I was very taken aback. But my mistake I guess for believing that asking for a few drops, that they were doing me a kindness. (We did ask before purchasing if kahlua was in it and it didn't end up being in it). Was happy to check out Tacos Del Cartel this weekend with the Girls! It was definitely a fun vibe! As soon as we sat down the music turned up and workers came out dancings with lights to deliver a tomahawk steak to the table next to us. I ordered the rose drink after it was recommended by the server. It came in a container full of smoke and served in a rose glass. It was foamy at the top but tasted sweet from guava and was so good. We ordered the guacamole with ribeye and esquites croquet for apps. The guacamole was ok but the crowd pleaser was the esquites croquet which came in a cute little bicycle holder. I ordered brisket tacos with a side of the elote and plantains. The other girls got The birria tacos. Brisket was nice and tender. Restaurant is beautiful inside. Wow, this place exceeds expectations. Our group had an amazing time creating memories here. Great food and attention to detail in everything. We started with drinks and the combination of art, flavor and fun is evident. My wife had a smoked cocktail which the name escapes me but was yummy. Our server was attentive and helpful. Let's start with how fun, cool and different the decorum inside is, beautiful. This is a review after two visits. The first one was a fail as we didn't have a reservation and they would not allow us to sit at the bar. Ironically enough as we waited for the unfriendly girls upfront to "see what they can do", some other people walked in and were greeted from afar. We heard when they asked if they had a reservation... they said no, yet the girl said "give me a few minutes and I'll get you a table"... I guess we were nobody's that night. A few weeks later, we felt like the hype died down and the experience would be better, with a reservation or course! Yeah, no... it was expensive and bland to say the least. We started with the guacamole, which arrived without chips. Once requested, a very small portion was brought out in a cup. We also had to ask for silverware and sharing plates. The atmosphere was the biggest challenge. The restaurant is undeniably festive, with tequila flights and birthday celebrations marked by full processions through the dining room--complete with fireworks, loud clapping, and music. This would have been fun once or twice, but within the span of about an hour, we counted seven. It was overwhelming, and we couldn't carry on a normal conversation. The food itself was okay, but not memorable. After appetizers and one cocktail, we decided to leave and enjoy dinner elsewhere. I enjoyed my first time here. It's a pricy place for tacos as the food did not impress but you pay for the experience. Every drink has a story and show. It felt like a club inside with the loud music and high energy. Pretty much every table was celebrating something like a birthday. For four people our bill was $278 (including automatic gratuity). Service was very good. We didn't wait long after checking into our reservation (although they completely ignored my birthday note). Also, they mixed up our to go's but other than that we had a wonderful time. The employees seem very hard working. I do recommend they get nonslip mats because the floor is incredibly slippery (especially in heels) and they're gonna get sued one day when someone falls.
