CHARO BEANS FOR THE WIN!!! On the hunt for lunch, this was the lowest rated of places that popped up, which meant I had to try it. I am very glad I did. Came with 2 coworkers, who agreed that this would become part of the regular rotation. The 5 taco plate is the way to go, the menu does not state it, but you can mix and match. Went with the trompo, carne asada, and a chicken. The server was very attentive and helpful. The queso had lots of chorizo, onions, and jalapenos buried inside for extra happiness. The charo beans served as an on the house appetizer, instead of chips, are just stunningly good (you have to order chips). The house special sauce for the barbacoa has a good depth of flavor. The food here is great. The service here is great. My only complaint is that the meat in the tacos tends to be a little fatty at times. I don't mind a tad bit of fat in my tacos, but I don't want to chew on a mouthful of mushy fat every other bite I take. Otherwise this place is awesome and the servers are really nice. I absolutely love this place!! They have the best Charro beans which are complementary with your meals and also included with online orders-delivery. I ordered through DoorDash; Food was piping hot and they were sure to provide the cilantro/onion/lime/salsa sides with freshly sautéed jalapeños/onion mix!! Everything was meticulously and expertly packaged. Their corn tortillas are sooo good and you can tell that they are homemade. I have tried their tacos, caldos, tortas and more. I've never been let down. Customer service is amazing and sincerely pleasurable. The staff believes in the place and is interested in its success. I know a lot of people complain that they do not offer free chips and salsa (which is what is normally offered at a Tex-Mex restaurant) This is definitely authentic mex-mex food. Went sometime before this whole covid for breakfast and the food was okay. The service at the time was ok even though I had to ask for her to come refill drinks for guest at our table. Given 8 months between that visit and this evening. You would think that for a Thursday and for it not being busy we would find staff more disposal for service, refill drinks, to ask if we need anything else, if things are okay? Not a greeting at the entrance, not a friendly conversation, not a visit at the table during the meal and when the waitress spoke it was sooo monotone no effort in the transaction. Enjoyed our lunch here very much. Our server, Carlos was informative and on it. We could tell that he was invested in the restaurant's success. I have a feeling that the team that owns and creates here is just as invested and just as successful at providing a pleasurable experience. I am a transplant to the area just like so many others that live here and this place made me feel at home. The food, so yummy and uncomplicated warmed every cell in my body on this chilly day. The bean soup hit the spot. They have a seasoned beef that is so delicious, I did not master it's name however Carlos says it beautifully so ask him. My only disappointment was the coffee. In all fairness, though, I ordered it at an odd time so I'm willing to give it another shot at a more appropriate hour. My boyfriend and I come here at least a couple times a month and I've also been to a few other of their locations around Houston. Monterrey tacos are hands down my favorite tacos ever--specifically the campechanas! We always order 3 campechanas for me and 2 for my boyfriend. After I introduced him to Monterrey food, he was sold. You can't go back to regular tacos--and there are very few places in town. (Message me for a recommendation near U of H.) No matter what you order, they always automatically bring out plenty of cilantro, onion and limes. You also get the charro beans and DELICIOUS green sauce which is pretty spicy. The campechanas are their two kinds of meat on grilled flour tortillas with monterrey cheese and fresh avocado. Top them off with all the works (don't forget green sauce) and you will be in taco heaven. I can never get a picture because these babies disappear off my plate in a hurry! This place is also great because of speed and efficiency. If you're looking for a quick meal, order your drinks (tacos are also great washed down with an ice cold beer) and campechanas all at once and you'll be in and out in 30 minutes or less. Wow wow wow. I went here for lunch yesterday and everything was great. The attention to detail to way more keen than the other taquerias in the area. They give you beans and huge containers of salsa to use to your hearts content. We just tried this place for kicks. I'm glad we did. This has some of the most delicious homemade Mexican food we ever had. The staff are nice and before your food arrives, they serve you a small bowl of homemade bean stew. It was and I quote, "just like my Mom used to make". Be careful what you order here. My boyfriend got the tacos the trompo plate and I ordered 3 tacos de trompo and 1 trompo quesadilla. I was very surprised to find that the restaurant serves 2 different types of trompo meat. My bf got the good meat that's crispy and smoky like the trompo shavings. My quesadilla and tacos had the weird slivers of meat which very tough and seemed like it was warmed in the microwave-- not crispy at all. You would think they would serve everyone that orders trompo the same kind of meat. Also the cheese on the quesadilla is not good and wasn't even melted and tortillas de harina are not homemade. Always great service and the food is always great! They let you sit wherever you want and they bring out beans and ask for your order right away. The food comes out fast and they have a variety of authentic Mexican food. I either get the tacos de trompo, tostada regia, or Monterrey 600. We have been here a few times before, but this time will probably be the last. The food is good but the service is not the greatest especially when there is a language barrier. We order the trompo and asked for flour tortillas. The waitress came out to inform us that the tacos would be larger because they are on flour tortillas. We said that was fine, well when it came to paying our ticket was $46 (for 2 people)!!!! The food was good but definitely not $46 good. They should have had someone come tell us that they were going to charge us for 5 individual tacos each. We have had the tacos done like this numerous of times, but this is the only time they wanted to charge us for each individual taco. They are nothing like the typical Tex-Mex style food joints around Houston. I highly recommend their Especiales Del Trompo which will leave you feeling very satisfied. I loved it! They have a small menu. I got bistec tacos with avocado and cheese. It came with 5 tacos. I ate four of them, and 8 hours later, I'm still full. Instead of chips, they bring out little bowls of searing hot bean soup. It's heavy on the bacon, and it's delicious. They also bring little bowls of chopped onion, lime, and cilantro. I came here and got the taco plate of 5 little tacos. They brought beans along with lime, onions, and cilantro to put in the beans. The beans were very delicious. The tacos were even better. I like having the melted creamy white cheese (not queso fresco) in my tacos along with avocado, cilantro, lime, and grilled onions. So it was quite perfect. However I will say the fresh squeezed orange juice was incredibly overpriced and really didn't seem too special. It was brought to our table nearly room temperature. It was almost a $7 drink. Me and my girlfriend go here often, but today was the last day. We ordered tacos on flour tortillas and apparantly the waitress charged us $ 3.00 for each taco. We always order this meal with flour tortillas and was never a problem. I brought this to their attention and they told me thats how they charged me. The waitress never checked on us after serving our meal. We normally spend $10.00 a piece on the meals and it went up to $16.00 a piece. So the bill was $47.00. For 2 people.
