Great almost authentic Mexican food. Food is delicious and large portions for a extremely reasonable price.

After reading and seeing the great reviews on this restaurant we decided to try it. We enjoy eating at different restaurants when we visit Houston and almost always pick great ones from following good reviews from others on Yelp and Google. I'm not sure why this one was the exception, but our experience and food quality and taste did not match the reviews we read. The selling point for many of the good reviews were the homemade tortillas, so we were excited to try them with an order of fajitas. They were large (diner plate size) but very dry and much less flavorful than any others we have ever had. The beef was tough and very little flavor as well. We left a lot on our plates when we decided to pay our bill and leave. The prices were cheap, but the lack of quality and flavor did not make it a bargain that would ever go back for. Maybe the term Authentic Mexican Food should have tipped me off because it is a different flavor profile than TexMex food, which to me is really flavorful. If I was to rate this meal I would say it was closer to a 3.0-3.5 out of 5. I usually try to pick places with a 4.0 or higher, and the reviewers usually steer us right for a good meal. **This is a 3.5-star review based on a single visit.** I have my regular Tex-Mex spot, but I'm always on the prowl for alternatives. This place is worthy. First, the red salsa is wonderful. It is served cold (as salsa should be) and has a nice balance of onion and cilantro. I'm fairly certain that I tasted cumin -- which is a no-no -- but the stuff was still good. It helped that they brought me picosa to spice it up. The green sauce is piquant, which is also a good thing. The tamales and cheese enchilada (both ordered al a carte) were good. Not great. The chimichanga, on the other hand, was one of the best I've had in a while. Refried beans were good (not too much lard) and the rice was average. Service here is friendly, but our waiter seemed to be distracted at times. This place is huge and clean. Will definitely return. read more

Meh... Horchata was watered down, asked for a replacement, they brought lemonade which was also watered down. Lunch menu is decent for prices and food isn't horrible, but it's not great either. Coming home from a disappointing commute into Houston, I decided to have dinner here. Los Ramirez is among one of those places I frequently pass by, but have never set foot in so it was my first time swinging by. It was a Friday night so the vibe was lively. Lots of people were at the restaurant. I plopped down by a fully occupied table and ordered the spinach enchiladas, a water, and an unsweetened tea. The meal tasted decent, but the portions were so-so. Accompanying the large helping of enchiladas were smaller helpings of refried beans and Mexican rice. It took a couple of spoonfuls to finish both. I really wished I had more of each. As with any visit to a Mexican eatery, I judged the place's chips and salsa. Not bad except the chips weren't as plentiful. It's no wonder Los Ramirez has the rating that it does, but as it with any three stars I give, I believe another chance is possible. read more

Let me start with this, this was the first time trying this place. My wife and I always pass this place and always say we are going to try it one day. Well, today was the day, and whoa, what an experience. The decor was good for a Mexican place; it is something I see often inside these taquerias. So let me get the good things about this place out of the way first. First, the waitstaff we experienced first, was excellent. This gentleman sat us down quickly and got our drinks ordered. Brought us chips and salsa and our drinks. The chips are amazing, freshly cooked. The salsa was even better, but the disappointment was the red salsa. It was tasty, but very cold and a little bland. When I make salsa, it is a little warm from the cooked onions, tomatoes, and jalapenos. If this salsa was not warm, it was not fresh. Next, let's talk about the second waitstaff. This one took our order. He was great but lacked knowledge of what was being sold. Did a great job at keeping our drinks topped off and the chips and green salsa (best one) coming. I ordered from the lunch menu, enchiladas suizas, and my wife ordered just three fajita tacos. This is where the restaurant falls apart. When they brought my food out, my enchiladas were in a red sauce. I explained that enchildas suizas is not supposed to be in a red sauce but a green sauce. He didn't understand, as that was what was on the menu. I said ok I will eat it. Chicken was bland but tender. Some parts were dry, but not enough to complain about it. My wife's tacos, on the other hand, well, they smelled and tasted sour. The meat tasted like it was rancid. I said something, the man took it back, and they brought back another set of three tacos. Same smell and taste. My wife ended up eating a taco and a half before feeling a little queasy. Got it to go, got our check, and walked up to the front counter to pay. The lady asked if everything was ok, I said not really and began to explain. This lady refused to listen and understand that Enciladas Suizas is supposed to be a creamy green sauce topped with cheese to resemble the Swiss Alps. She was not having it. When I told her the fajitas, she acted like she didn't want to hear it. I will not return to this place, and if I can help it, I will tell everyone to avoid this place. I have been to many taquerias and never tasted fajitas like this, which were rotten, undercooked, and then served to the patrons as if we would not know the difference. If you want a better experience and great-tasting food, go to Las Agave #3. This is my favorite spot so far. read more

I've been going to this restaurant since it was first opened on El Dorado. It has become our comfort food location. My son came home from Baton Rouge and the first place he wanted to go was Los Ramirez. We love our servers Gerson and Eduardo. Always on point with service and they treat us like family. But today was a bit different. Not the food or the service. That's always great without a doubt. I noticed a service charge for 3 something. I questioned it to the cashiers and they said that the consumer now has to pay for the credit card services. Now the prices went up and that's ok. But usually the price increase offsets these fees. No one carries cash anymore so that means we have to pay to pay? That doesn't make sense at all. We go there for the service and the food. We pay for service and the food. We shouldn't have to pay to use the credit card services. No one likes these types of surprises. I hope you don't lose customers over this. During the COVID years the customers kept your doors open. I will think twice or more before I go back. read more

I came here the other night and ordered my favorite when coming here being their original Chicken Enchiladas Plate. Very rich and very delicious with soft n slightly crispy corn wraps, juicy shredded chicken, thick yellow cheese and a bold gravy. The rice and beans were also very good and very tasty. The rice was mildly spiced, soft and doughy. The beans were earthy and nicely chunky as opposed to the really smooth type that seem like they're from a can like in some restaurants. Even the chips n red salsa were good too and that's just complimentary. Great, friendly service again. Been awhile since I ate here n missed it. Some other dishes I like a lot here are the Chicken Enchiladas Rojas, Beef Tacos Carbon and Carne Guisada. read more

This place has some great enchiladas! I would say these enchiladas are the best bang for your buck in Houston that I've tried. The plate is huge and only $10. The chicken in the enchiladas is nicely season. The plate in the picture is one cheese enchilada, one chicken, and one beef. The chips and salsa are nothing special in my option. They are good, just not amazing. I find them to be overall standard. I did prefer the green sauce over the red. Service was good. The food does take some time to arrive on the table. About 10-20 minutes. This is always a good sign, though. If food comes out too fast, I question if italian microwaved. The restaurant is similar to a small banquet hall, just a big empty room with tables and some booths. I would say if you're going here, try the enchiladas. You won't be disappointed! Our family loves Los Ramirez. We have been coming here for a long time. The service is always good. The place is always full of life and great smelling food. The decor is colorful. We come here at least twice a month but more of family is in town. The breakfast is always good, lunch is good, dinner is good. We are always happy when we come here. We have been here so much I have tons of food pics that I will post. But our menu favorites are the menudo, the caldo de res, the pozole. Also the shrimp poblano, asado de puerco, enchiladas, bistec ranchero, the taco plate , i could go on. The margaritas are tasty , the micheladas are good too. This is the new location but with the same great food and service. It's a lot bigger space and doesn't feel like it's going to fall down on top of you. The prices went up, but I'm not surprised as I'm sure they pay more for the bigger building. We don't live in Clear Lake so we don't come here as often but when we do it's always great food and good service! read more

This place really sucked. Tortilla chips ok. Red salsa ok (nice and hot). Rice was bland. No spice to it at all. Charro beans ok. Tacos Al Carbon were terrible. Some of the beef was stone cold. Some of the beef was warm. None of it seasoned at all. Tough, cheap beef overcooked. Dry, flavorless, and boring. Homemade tortillas were ok. Pico de gallo was stale with tomatoes turning brown and cilantro wilted. It's as if they have absolutely no salt, pepper, taco seasoning, or spices of any kind in their kitchen. Some high points: Guacamole was actually good. Draft beer was nice and cold. Water was nicely filtered. Wait staff was friendly, although slow and confused. The restaurant seems popular and busy. We travel to Houston 3-4 times a year. We have seen this restaurant every time so we decided to stop. Here are some facts! Food mediocre! Service Great! Ambience Mediocre! I asked for queso with chorizo. I also asked if it was nacho cheese they said no. To my surprise I got nacho cheese with chorizo. That's not Mexican food.(Use white cheese) I ordered Chile Relleno! I should have known there was trouble when the Chile was fried but laying on top of ground beef. The meet was very wet but no distinct taste. The beans were ok the rice was watery and no taste. I ordered a tamale on the side the meat was like ground pork with to much Cumin flavor. Green sauce good flavor but no bite. Red sauce good flavor but no bite. Coffee not a very good flavor.(and I love all kinds of coffee. Red Green sauce #3 very tasty and lots of heat. Best thing tonight. My wife ordered fajitas, they were dry and had onions only no bell peppers. My sister-in-law had the chicken soup. She said it was very bland, and there were not enough vegetables in it. Both flour and corn tortillas were very tasty but very thick. The menu must have had over 100 choices. (You know you can't be good at everything.) Cut the menu in half. Give the place a facelift. We arrived got seated and asked what drinks we wanted. Brought them to us but waited around 20 minutes before we had to ask who was gonna wait on us. Funny cause they were not busy and workers were at a table eating and folding up silverware. Food was just ok, but restrooms were so nasty. That's enough to change my mind of the cleanliness of the kitchen. In addition they now charge a service fee for you to eat there. They should put that on the menu so you are aware of the charge and not surprise you at time to checkout. If you pay cash they take it off. read more

I should have listened to the yelp reviews but against better judgement we went in. The smell was immediately off putting but I was committed to trying a new place. I got cheese enchiladas and my husband got menudo. The cheese enchiladas had a very thick corn tortilla and more like wolf brand chili on top than enchilada gravy. The menudo had zero taste. Nothing. We went here one Monday afternoon a week before Xmas trying to find some good Tex Mex besides el tiempo and pappasitos. We should have just gone there and paid the high prices. We ordered some queso to start and it was decent. Then we ordered my 3yr old daughter a queso puff. This thing was Nasty! It tasted like the oil they fried in had been burnt and was 4 weeks old. Then me and my wife order enchiladas 3pas with one beef, one shredded chicken and one cheese with double rice and no beans for me, my wife got chicken flautas. To start I love pouring queso on my rice and mixing it with the enchilada sauce. I did that and stirred it and tried it and it was Disgusting!! I then proceeded to look underneath the rice and it's nothing but grease! After that my wife is like "give our daughter some of your queso rice" and I try warning her that it is DISGUSTING, but she lets her try a little anyway cause she's only 3 and maybe will eat it cause she's not picky as me idk. Even my 3 year old spit it out and said "it's nasty mama". I try some of the enchiladas next and they have this really dark, almost black sauce on top. I take a bite out of the beef one and spit it out immediately! Idk what they trying to make but the sauce also was like burnt around the corners/edges and also extremely greasy, reminded me of those Mexican tv dinners. But that's an insult cause they're actually edible. Then last but not least my wife chicken flautas were made w idk what kind or tortilla but it looked really thick whole grain overcooked fried nasty pos, and the chicken looked dry ass hell. She told me to try it and I was so scared but took a little bite, & confirmed that it also was disgusting. I've never in my life done this and felt bad for the waiter but we literally sent back everything but the queso and ask the waiter for the bill and just paid for the plain as queso, and left a $4 tip and got out of there before we felt anymore disgusting and disappointed. I'm brand new to the area and the first thing I needed to find was a good Mexican restaurant, mission accomplished. I came here for breakfast and let me tell you, I am so full and satisfied with plenty of food left on my plate. First of all, their flour tortillas are gigantic, thick & fluffy. I personally love them that way. Actually, I love flour tortillas any kind of way, but these are on point. I had one, they serve two. The portions are quite large here and the flavor is good too. My breakfast of choice is machacado a la mexicana, served with beans with a side (extra) of diced potatoes. This paired with an authentic cafecito is heaven on earth.
