I've always driven by this taco truck on Brookhurst so I decided to give it a try one day. It's located near Sherwin Williams and there's some parking available along with a single fold out table and a few chairs. I ordered asada, lengua, and chorizo and all three meats were delicious and the tortillas were great! They also added grilled onions along with their sauces. The workers are friendly and the tacos come out relatively quickly depending on how many customers there are, usually around 5-7 minutes! Will be coming back here again in the future, please give this place a try! Side note - They charge $1 for card or touch-less transactions, so bring cash! read more

Who doesn't love a good food truck? Tacos El Chente is located on Brookhurst and Lampson in Garden Grove. The truck has a very pretty, colorful design. My friend told me about this place and invited me out. I ordered 1 carne asada and 1 tripe taco. Unfortunately, they gave me the wrong order and I got chorizo instead, which was fine. I didn't want to bother them to have to make it again. They have THE BEST TRIPE TACOS I've ever had!! The chorizo taco was average. I wouldn't get that in the future. All three meats were very tasty! They put lime, grilled onions and jalapenos on your plate. In addition, there is a salsa bar outside along with onions and cilantro. Utterly so disappointed! This truck use to be my absolute favorite! Why would you mess up a good thing! I had a pretty large order - 3 Birria tacos (no onions, extra crispy) - 2 Tripas - 5 carne asada tacos ( 3 no onions) - 1 carne asada burrito (no beans no rice) - 2 Horchatas I proceeded to tell the cashier my order. She would interrupt constantly. She would not listen and after me confirming 3 times, she responded with yes, yes, okay and proceeded to charge me. I ordered all the tacos ( besides the birria) to be small tacos. However, she corrected me and said the small are the tacos and the bigs are the burritos. WHAT?!!! You still charged me large tacos! I didn't want to argue, and thought "Whatever! I'm still getting tacos!" I asked her to make sure the burrito came with no rice or beans but we still want onions, cilantro, and cheese. "Okay, okay, everything!."was what she responded. Again... " no. I want the burrito WITHOUT rice and beans" Well... when the order came out, none of my order was correct. Things that shouldn't have onions had onions and things with onions did not. The burrito only had meat... when I told her I wanted small tacos and not the large ones she told me they already made it... can't change it now. (Whatever, same difference, right?) WRONG! Miscommunication was frustrating but what happened to the food?!! Granted the portion of meat was plentiful but they forgot to season EVERYTHING! I literally thought they changed owners or workers! My birria was white! It lacked flavor and tasted like meat floss. The consumme that use to be so soothing and flavorful was now reduced to something sad. The tripas that was once crispy now tasted boiled and truthfully, inedible. I literally went home and had to turn on that stove and recooked all the food! I definitely underestimated the amount of food they give you here at Tacos el Chente, so my late night snack quickly became a late nigh FEAST. The order consisted of the following tacos: Taco Naco -- You're getting a mountain of meat! 4 different kinds of meat (I believe were pollo, pastor, asada, and chorizo). Carne Asada -- Pretty good and fresh! A classic taco choice if you aren't one for crazy meats. Cabeza -- As opposed to other taco places, this was genuine cabeza, not shredded! Chewy and fatty in the best ways. All these hit the spot and I had a refreshing Jamaica to finish it all off, yum! (For those unfamiliar, it reminded me of cranberry juice.) First time visiting this food truck, I have had tacos from other places that were flavorless, but this place was the very best in flavor great service and friendliness. I had tacos and one quesadilla loved their tripas and cabeza tacos. Love these tacos and the flavor! The tortilla had a nice crisp but was still soft at the same time, while the meat was nicely flavored. They definitely don't skimp out on how much meat they give you. I have been going here for about 3 years and in the beginning was pretty good service and food. Don't get me wrong, the food is still pretty decent. My top favorite here is the carne asada and tripas!! So good, they make the tripas crispy and tasty. Carne asada is always a safe way to go, either way it's not dry and has flavor. The only reason why it is not 4 stars is because I don't like it when I asked for small tacos prices but she charged me for the big taco prices. I repeated back to the lady 2 times and she said okay. I would have given them more stars but reasons was I showed them a picture of one of their tacos and i went to this taco place twice and both times they told me they don't have it. Kind of a let down. Another reason was that I order 7 tacos from here and I only got 6 tacos.. and each of their taco is like 2-3 dollars. So losing a taco kinda ruined the night as well because my family was missing one of the tacos and yeah didn't turn out well. If they see this message and say that I can get another taco for free next time I come by then awesome. I'll change the rating and yeah. I've been driving pass Tacos el Chente for quite some time. Tonight I decided to actually drop by. It's a mother and son establishment! So cute. Their menu board has "John 3:16" written on it. There's an open bible at the order window. I'm not at all the religious type but, I don't know, already I felt the humbleness. Ok. Now to the food. The tacos are amazing. I ordered for take-out, though there are a plastic table a chairs for those who want to eat on the spot. I ordered the asada and pastor. I love their asada. It's freshly grilled. It's tender yet there's a (seared) crispness to it. It's sooooo yummy to my hungry tummy! Al pastor is ok to my opinion. There's bins of onions, cilantro, green and red sauce. The sauces are AMAZING. I am usually a red sauce type of gal, but I enjoyed their green sauce as well. Both were fire...like spicy fire. The red sauce must to be habanero. It's super spicy, flavorful and delicious. I stopped buy tonight to try out their tacos. I went and ordered for my self and my two nieces. Got my to go order and headed home. When I got home I was missing an order of three tacos which were for my niece. I was really dissatisfied because I paid for three orders of tacos and only received two. I definitely felt like I was ripped off and I was not able to drive back being that it was late at night and I had two kids with me. I tried calling their number but no one ever picked up. I feel like food truck food should cost less than restaurant food since they have a lot less costs. Food is good but tacos should be more like $1 and burritos closer to $5. At those prices the value would be greater for what your getting. At their current prices I will rather go to a regular restaurant and get more for my money. I would give the food 4 stars (good food) but can't get over the fact they want $7 for a burrito when your ordering from a parking spot. They can't charge the same as chipotle for a burrito when selling from a truck parked in a parking lot. For $7 I can get a combo at In-n-out. read more
