I seriously can't stop thinking about this restaurant. Every time I visit the south bronx Tacos El Torito Versatile is a non-negotiable stop. I don't come here often but I can't stop thinking about the Steak Tacos Americanos. Sometimes I consider taking a trip up to the Bronx just for the tacos and I regretfully never get to it. I hope to come up in the next few weeks. I also really appreciate the people who work at the restaurant too. I can. Tell that everything is made with care. The tacos are flavorful, the ingredients taste fresh, and the sauce is to die for. I would be the happiest woman on earth if they bottled and sold their green and orange sauces. I haven't asked if they sold them or put them in containers but I know that I should look further into it. There's nothing I love more than a good sauce with my tacos and with food in general. They give the steak in the tacos a good kick. The guacamole that they make isn't the garbage you buy at a grocery store, but it's deliciously made in the restaurant. When I worked in the neighborhood I came by more often but working and living farther away has made that a bit of a challenge. I know that if I had any good sense I would make a trip soon and I will. read more

My local mexican restaurant has such an authentic vibe. Come here if you want real Mexican food. My favorite are the tostadas, I get them every single time. All the staff knows me by now and they treat me like family when they see me it's so refreshing! read more

My usual go to Mexican spot for lunch. I work in the area and they have not disappointed me. Tacos are flavorful and nicely filled. The tostada de tinga is one of my favorite! The tinga chicken has the perfect amount of spice and flavor. I have also tried the nachos and they are nice and loaded. The place has indoor and outdoor sitting. In a neighborhood full of Mexican restaurants, this is my go-to for tacos. In fact, it's my neighborhood takeout go-to, period. At $2 per taco, they're 30% cheaper than most. The tortillas are always fresh (not a given in these parts) and the meats are pretty well seasoned. Also pretty consistently moist. I generally stick to the tongue, head, and chicharron tacos, which are always great. My boyfriend always gets the al pastor. Beef and chicken tacos are more prone to dryness and tend not to be as flavorful, so I usually shy away from those, but I did try some here and they were okay. The fish taco was also just okay, but it comes on a better-than-average hard shell (I prefer soft). It's a very small space, but clean and well maintained. There's a counter with a few chairs and, I think, a small table with another 2 or 3 chairs. I've never eaten there, but have sat down to wait for my order and it's comfortable enough for a quick meal. The person behind the counter/answering phones speaks English. There aren't great food options around here, but even if there were, I'd still order from this place regularly. It's a really great value and an awesome addition to the neighborhood. Did I mention they're open til 4am? I have to give this place five stars. There's a bit of a curve because of the dearth of options in the neighborhood, but their tacos really are the best and most consistent. Further, so many new businesses in "up-and-coming" (read: gentrifying) areas move in and charge Manhattan prices- it's refreshing to see one buck the trend. read more

It's $2 and it's better than anything around here that costs $10. I'm always hunting for the best affordable places to eat. To get good food from a takeout spot that's the same price as going to the grocery store is actually kind of life changing. The problem with most cheap taco places in this neighborhood is the tortillas. A lot of places use dry crumbly tortillas that have no flavor. El Torito Versatile uses good tortillas. In a neighborhood that's getting fast food places added to it like Taco Bell, Wendy's, and Cinnabon, as well as other suburban shopping mall staples like Marshall's, we don't have many great unique places to eat, and right now for me El Torito Versatile is like an oasis in the desert. read more

I love this place because it's a block up from my flat and while the tacos are basic, the guacamole is excellent and it's open 24 hours for $2.00+ tacos in, yep, chorizo and lengua. Feed your inner carnivore. read more

Omg love this New Mexican taco spot. There tacos for one are so good it reminds me of Mexico and brings me back to simpler days, with using simple ingredients and just enough care to each taco. Not to mention they are $2 each. The pazole makes me want to cry because it reminds me of the Aunts back home and there breakfast are not bad as well. I am so glad this places opened because it really hard to find a good taco spot that makes good tacos. I always tip because I appreciate the good taste of there food and there prices. Omg the best enchiladas I've ever tasted. My husband is tuff to please when it comes to food and let me just tell you that he was really surprise with the tacos. He said I should of order more lol. The waiting is kind of long because they're always so busy. I was really pleased to find out they come all the way to Manhattan. Great local tacos and great atmosphere. Small joint, but food was very authentic, took credit card, and open til 4am on a Sunday, which is hard to beat. Seats at the bar look at the kitchen so you can watch the guys making all the food, which is nice. Steak tacos were awesome and all made to order. Salsa is HOT, but delicious flavor. Felt compelled to give potential customers a warning about this place after the absolutely pathetic experience that I just had here. I work in the area and ordered a chicken quesadilla for takeout this afternoon. I've ordered a quesadilla or two from restaurants in my life and when I opened the takeout container I saw something that was I certainly wouldn't identify as a quesadilla and would say that the food item I received bordered on totally unrecognizable. In the container was a large tortilla folded in half that was filled with a ton of tiny little pieces of meat that looked like it could possibly be chicken. However, if it was chicken, it was clearly the scraps that were cut from a larger piece of meat that were probably intended for the trash. The meat was cooked to death and varied in consistency from dry and hard to dry and rubbery. There was maybe 1/8-1/4 cup of rubbery and flavorless cheese folded and melted into the tortilla as well. The tortilla was not pressed and there was hardly any cheese in it, so as soon as I tried to cut into it it fell apart and the meat fell out of the tortilla. I drowned the food in salsa to make it edible because it was late in the day and I was hungry but I only ate half of it because I was so disgusted with it. Will never return. read more

THE ABSOLUTE WORST TACO SPOT IN THE BRONX!!!! I had DoorDash'd an order of Americano Tacos from the place and it was disgusting. The chicken was hard and cold as if it were over cooked or old. The cilantro and lettuce were very soggy and tossed on the plate like grass. The taco shell itself wasn't even warmed up and very soggy. It was very dissatisfying and unbearable because I was extremely hungry and the food was horrible. How do you take pleasure and throwing anything in a container and serving it to customers??? read more

Me and my friends came here on a late night around 3am and were surprised! The tacos were very good and flavorful! You can buy per taco only $2 each which is very cheap! Tacos are authentic Mexican street style tacos topped with cilantro, onion & garlic. Toppings are .25cent extra per topping. I had a steak and chicken taco, steak was more flavorful than the chicken but both were very good. Tacos come when a salsa verde on the side as well. I would def come back especially for a cheap good taco after a night out! read more
