This has become a to go to spot for my friend and I . We tend to find our way here when we may need a lunchtime cocktail. I personally hands down love their mojitos. I go for the mojitos alone. While I have not tried many things on the menú what I did makes me want to try more. Estrellita Poblana is a Bronx institution. There are several of them throughout the borough, but no matter which one you go to they serve up the same consistently good Mexican fare. I usually go to the Westchester Square spot as it's the location closest to my parents, but I've also been to their restaurant in Kingsbridge and (most recently) this one on Westchester Ave. The standard items one would expect to find at a Mexican restaurant are on EP's menu. What makes them stand out for me though, is the vast selection they have within each menu section and the quality of they food they serve. My usual go-tos are their burritos and tacos - they offer a variety of proteins to complement and they're always delicious. Outside of that, their soups are great as well as their nachos. I've only eaten in-house a few times; my standard is takeout and it's always ready by the promise time. Overall, Estrellita is a resounding yes for me; they are one of the best examples of quality and consistency, and I would always recommend them for good Mexican food in the Bronx. read more

Good food always fresh I came specifically looking for their sweet tamales which are amazing but ended up ordering tacos. I had the fish tacos which came with a side of rice and beans so it's perfect if you're hungry. Great portion totally worth trying. I would say the fish was a little over cooked in my opinion but well seasoned. It wasn't like a fried fillet it was more like thin strips of fried fish which could have been why it was over cooked. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable they were fast and super kind. They kept checking up on us making sure everything was ok and to see if we needed anything. I had a terrible experience here. The server took my drink order but never delivered it, as she appeared focused on making drinks at the bar for another table. I later asked a different server for my drinks and was told they would be out in two minutes. After waiting approximately ten more minutes, I asked again, but there was difficulty with communication and my request was not understood as the staff does not speak English. I ordered three Mexican Coca Colas. After about forty five minutes, the drinks finally arrived, but only two were brought out of the three. Everyone else at the table had already received their drinks, and our appetizers had arrived while I was still waiting on the drinks. I was extremely thirsty by that point. Considering the drinks only needed to be taken from the refrigerator, the delay was frustrating. When they did arrive, they were not even cold. Communication among the staff seemed to be an ongoing issue, which contributed significantly to the poor service. The food also fell short of expectations. I ordered shrimp tacos, which were much better in the past. This time, they were bland and not worth the price. There are several other nearby restaurants that offer better quality tacos at a lower cost. I decided to try their birria tacos with no cheese and unfortunately they weren't that good and my tortillas were soggy and fell apart quickly. It's a little bit hard to find parkings but if you don't drive it is perfect. It's an intimate place and the foods are authentic. The portion is large as I don't need to eat dinner anymore if I go there for lunch. The foods are little salty so I would ask for no salts if I go next time. read more

TL; DR: This is truly some of the BEST Mexican food I have ever had. I've been here twice in the past two months and already plotting my return. My boyfriend and I stumbled on this restaurant on during COVID, on a random Monday, after searching for a restaurant that was open at 10pm. We were so pleasantly surprised to be guided into the back patio that was beautifully lit with string lights to set an ambiance that didn't at all feel like the Bronx! ...As if that wasn't good enough, there was a super talented Mariachi band playing (with masks and all!) serenading different tables. It's safe to say the tone was set even before our food arrived -- but that did not disappoint either! Elizabeth was our waitress and truly a GEM!! The queso fundido with peppers was literally the stuff that dreams are made of and so were the burrito, fajitas, and chimichangas/burritos we had on both occasion. Most importantly, the margaritas were strong and DELICIOUS! I mixed passion fruit with mango and it was perfection. Definitely a great option for lots of delicious food and bang for your buck. First of all, I was able to order horchata, a non-alcoholic rice milk drink I enjoy and try to order when I'm at a Mexican establishment. And it was good! Complimentary tortilla chips and accompanying sauces were one of the better ones I've tried - loved that there's a caboodle of sauces similar to Thai cuisine :) Service is quick and the food is generously portioned and tasty without being over-seasoned or feeling heavy. We had grilled chicken with a side of Mexican rice and black beans and it was amazing. We also had shrimp tostadas which are tasty, the shrimp seasoned nicely and the toppings added a nice variety of decadent flavors.
