My experience here was great. Food was delicious, prices were good, server was kind and attentive to the table. Seeing the pictures on Yelp had me excited to come here and it did not disappoint. I had the parrillada de la casa, which had shrimp, chicken, steak, pork, and chorizo all cooked up similar to a fajita plate. It arrived with tortillas and a bunch of extra toppings on the side. My friend ordered the beef short ribs, which I don't often see, so that was interesting. They were short ribs and they were lightly seasoned and it really made the taste of beef stand out. We often get lost in all of the sauces and seasonings that we do not get to appreciate the actual taste of the meat. My other friend ordered chimichangas and he had no complaints, so I would say his meal was just as good as ours. The restaurant had a lot of decor with paintings on the walls. I'm not always the most observant with these things, but the first impression when you walk in was that it was quite busy with stuff. Funny thing is when a white and black couple came in *poof* she speaks English. I did notice the younger crowd that worked there were fluent and didn't play games. Her tip suffered for her foolishness. The food was absolutely amazing; can't not say anything bad whatsoever. It truly was authentic Mexican food. Today was my first time here, I ordered the sopa the menudo and a Michelada. The soup was delicious I don't know what all came in it I know it had tripe but there were other things in there that gave it different textures and it wasn't watered down. I was at the bar so one of the cooks came over and tried explaining what was all In it but it doesn't translate well. The Michelada was my fave the only thing that thru me off was that in the menu it said it was $5.99 but when I got the bill they charged me $7.99. They were busy so I didn't fuss over it. This restaurant is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Orlando - only serving great authentic Mexican food here at very affordable prices. We usually come here during evenings on the weekend and it does get pretty busy. The restaurant itself is not very large, but there are large booths that can sit larger parties comfortably but they are very limited. Take out is a great option for those just wanting to pick something up on the way home from work. Once again, l reiterate the authenticity of its tacos - true Mexican style tacos - don't expect taco bell. What you will get is a delicious choice of proteins on a corn tortilla. They come plain but you can add cilantro, onions, lime, and other salsas to your liking. Other foods are also amazingly fresh - I've tried the fajitas and they're more than filling. Everything I have eaten has impressed me. Be warned that the restaurant can make your clothes smell from the food afterwards, so I don't recommend coming in your business suit. He's pescatarian so he ordered a veggie quesadilla, which came in huge chunks inside...not appetizing at all. They literally took veggies and slapped it in the tortilla, not even with enough cheese. He also ordered the fish tacos, which was eh. It was battered, not seasoned well, and if it wasn't for the sauces it wouldn't be edible. His quesadilla came with rice and beans. The rice was hard, and the refried beans didn't look appetizing at a glance so I didn't bother tasting it. I ordered a gordita, decent. And a carnita taco, which was okay and a chicken taco which was the best one. The only plus side to the tacos is the amount of meat it come with, but it doesn't bring absolutely anything else in the taco and you have to build it from a salsa bar on the other side of the restaurant. This place was not at all what I expected. I think they depend on the sauces for customers to enjoy the food. The customer service was also very mediocre. We had to get the waitress' attention a few times in order to get what we wanted but she definitely didn't check up on us. This place can be a hit or miss. I order tacos when I come here. The el pastor, carne asada or the carnitas are my favorite options. The first few times, I had a great experience. Then the tacos started getting greasier. The last time I went, I was put off by the small parking option and how busy the plaza was. My husband and I went around in circles for about 10 minutes for a parking. They have too o trucks next door and those customers prettt much took the parking for the plaza restaurant customers. Then my tacos were extra greasy so we decided to give this place a break and try another restaurant. When the tacos were good, they were worth it. Very authentic. Wow! With their strange colored flashinglike, at first glance this place does not look like someplace you'd want to stop. We were buying a car across the street and decided to run out and get some tacos while we were waiting for the paperwork to finish. This place was great! The staff was very friendly and the food was fantastic. I will absolutely come again. We went for tacos and had chicken, carne asada, and al pastor tacos. I've eaten tacos all over the state and all over the country and these were probably some of the very best. I would definitely recommend. Everything here is cooked to order and so f*cking fresh! When things are fresh, they are automatically delicious. At least they are to me. I got two chicken tacos and two beef tacos. My boyfriend got a steak quesadilla. My food was cooked perfectly. It was like homemade food from your best friend's Mexican aunt/mom/sister/grandmother. The taco tortillas were small and thick, which is very typical of the tortillas you find in Mexico. I prefer them this way, although most people are used to the thin flour tortillas. But at Tacos Express, they do things the authentic way. Good for them! The salsa bar was my favorite part, with all kinds of amazing toppings: freshly cut cilantro, freshly made guacamole, fresh pico de gallo. The service was out of this world. So I opened up yelp to see what was around and found Tacos Express....19 reviews averaging 4 stars and we (my family) love Mexican food..let's do it!! Small place and I'll agree with other reviewers in that it was very clean and the staff (at least our waitress) was very polite. Only negative thing was there were a bunch of flies from it being so hot outside and the door opening and closing. They have a salsa bar that even has guac in it! Truthfully the guac was just ok, and I'm sure this is going to be heresy, but I prefer Chipotle's. Perhaps this is the way it should be though. Between the family we had guac and chips (didn't really need, but we ordered before we knew there was guac in the salsa bar), a wet burrito (very large, very delicious) and a chicken quesadilla. Everything was really good, really fresh. We had this around 1 p.m. Honestly wasn't hungry again til close to bedtime........and one key thing to me about a restaurant is 'was it memorable?'. (Like me) From the outside does not look like much, but service and food quickly overcome any doubts. Owner was our waiter and server. He recommended a family platter with various meats, all the tortillas and toppings we needed. Despite my wife's misgivings (she had already decided on something else) that is what we went with. Including beverages and generous tip $60 for 6 people. What a bargain! Owner brought out 2 bowls of queso and fresh chips for appetizers. Platter included chicken, steak, pork, chorizo and shrimp served on a cast iron skillet like fajitas with onions and bell peppers. All of the meats were flavored excellently and platter was piled high with a more than generous quantity. Flour and Corn tortillas were freshly prepared and brought to table piping hot. He was determined to make sure my wife didn't regret going along with the rest of us and kept bringing her special toppings, freshly made pineapple drinks and even dessert which seemed to be a cross between sopapilla and fried ice cream. A very hole-in-the-wall spot. According to my boyfriend, they began as a food truck and transitioned over to this restaurant. It's a very small restaurant and I believe it is family run. I'm fairly certain everyone is in fact Mexican and English is not their first language. But don't let that deter you! I'm suuuuper American but they can take my order just fine. My boyfriend and I come here at least once a month when we're craving tacos. SO much better than going through the Taco Bell drive-thru. I typically get 2 marinated pork tacos and that fills me up. They are my favorite type of tacos... DELICIOUS. My boyfriend typically gets 4 tacos (steak, chicken, + 2 marinated pork) and that fills him up (he's not a small dude either). The tacos are always fresh and I've never had any complaints about the quality of them. There's a little toppings bar where you can take your plate of tacos to add some zest to them. There's pico, onions, cilantro, limes, and 3 different types of hot sauce/salsa to put on. The best part about the tacos is the fact that they're only $1.50 each! For the quality, this is amazing. It's no surprise that I love Mexican food. I'm very judgmental because I grew up on the border in southern California where real Mexican food is King. (Though it's nothing like my ex mother in laws cooking) For taco express I have 2 words, HOMEMADE TORTILLAS. You can see the process happening in their open style kitchen right in the middle of the of the restaurant. I've eaten here twice and both times the food has been good. The service needs some improvement but I think it's just because they never have enough ppl to service the amount of customers.
