I gave them a second chance and ordered a different plate on a different day, and I had the same experience. Pouring sauce and some salt and pepper packets on the food couldn't save it. On a third occasion, I ordered dessert from here, and I really didn't care much for it either... Ughh I really wanted to like the food here. But I really do avoid this food truck when I see it.

Tonight i was at an appointment, I missed lunch which was on me and didn't have anything thawed out…read morefor dinner. Im a strict diet where I can't have carbs or sugar for six days out of the week. I was trying to think of something that was compliant to my diet and close to my appointment. Taco brothers food cart was right across the street on Richmond Ave so I started looking at the menu online. They had various bowls so i figured i would order one and modify it. I did notice that none of the bowls had rice in them, I figured that it was an add-on because there were so many different options. I thought that was perfect for me because I can't have carbs. I ordered a steak bowl that was supposed to come with spicy pico de gallo, black beans, sour cream and two different Mexican cheeses. There was an option to remove the cheeses and sour cream so that's what i did. I was assuming that my order would be steak with pico de gallo, beans and the sliced avocado that comes with it. When I went to pick up my order, there was a younger man there like maybe 22. He was very sweet, I asked him if they had any smaller guacamoles for sale and he showed me a little cup and said that they had one for a dollar or one that was a little bit bigger for two dollars so I asked him for the two dollar one and he asked me what type of sauce would I like and I said the green sauce, please. So with the bowl, the modifications and the smaller guac, it was $17 and I tipped him. When I got home, opened up my meal, it was nothing that I asked for. They basically gave me a container packed with rice with some steak on it that was so chopped up that it almost looks like ground meat, topped with a bunch of shredded lettuce. At first I just saw all this lettuce packed on top so I'm like no big deal let me take it off and then I noticed all this rice, no pico de gallo, no beans ..... So I called the young man, he picks up, I'm like I was just there like 20 mins ago and he remembers me. I told him about the order and that there were things in it that I didn't ask for and things that I did ask for that weren't. He put me on hold while he spoke to the cook. After about five minutes, he came back and told me that it was basically my mistake because all the bowls come with rice, even though it doesn't say it on the menu description. He said that they didn't give me the pico de gallo because I asked for no sour cream And it goes on top of the sour cream. When I asked him where the beans were, he did not know. I asked him if I could come back to pick up the correct order, even though I was home already and he told me that wouldn't be a problem but being that it was my error, I would have to pay for it again. I told him I wasn't sure what he was smoking but he should share some with me and I suggested that he called the owner before it became a thing. I waited about 45 minutes because he said he would call me back, I had a feeling he wouldn't and he didn't. I called and he didn't pick up, I had a feeling that he would not. I called back and he did not pick up. I called right back and then he decided to answer. I asked him what had happened, he was supposed to call me back and he said that he did speak to the owner and she said that it was basically my error And my mistake so I was at a loss. At this point, I started to get a little nasty because I was just in disbelief. It's not about the money, it's the way it was handled, the way I was just disregarded and the way they think that they could give shit product. I'm not sure if the young man made another mistake or if this is their version of guacamole but when I opened up the guacamole, it looks like a purée. I thought maybe he misunderstood and gave me a large green sauce but I have the green sauce that came with it so maybe they make guacamole soup ‍ Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money. Plenty of better options on the island.

An Unforgettable Quesabirria Experience at Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine!…read more Finding truly exceptional Mexican food can sometimes feel like a quest, but my visit to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine delivered in a big way, specifically with their phenomenal Quesabirria. From the moment it arrived, I had a feeling it would be special, and I was not disappointed. The quesabirria itself was a masterpiece of flavor and texture. It was immediately clear that freshness was a priority here. The tortilla was perfectly crisped, providing a satisfying base for the generous filling inside. But the real star was the birria steak - it was incredibly tender, bursting with juice, and packed with a deep, savory taste that spoke of careful preparation and quality ingredients. Each bite was simply delicious. What truly elevated the dish, however, were the thoughtful details. The fresh cilantro wasn't just sprinkled on; it added a vibrant, aromatic quality and a necessary burst of freshness that cut through the richness of the meat and cheese beautifully, enhancing the overall taste profile significantly. And then there was the consumé. Oh, that consumé! Calling it 'out of this world' is almost an understatement. It was served steaming hot, a rich, dark broth brimming with complex flavors. It was savory, comforting, and utterly addictive. Seriously, it was so incredibly delicious and satisfying on its own that I could have happily just sipped it straight from the cup. Dipping the flavorful quesabirria into that liquid gold created a perfect harmony - a truly memorable culinary moment. It's been a little while since I had the chance to visit Maya's Cafe, but the memory of that meal has genuinely stayed with me. I find myself actively craving that specific combination of flavors and textures again. While I haven't managed to get back just yet, I am truly looking forward to my next visit, and you can bet I'll be ordering the quesabirria again. If you appreciate authentic Mexican cuisine made with care, or if you're on the hunt for truly outstanding quesabirria, I wholeheartedly recommend making a trip to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine. It was a fantastic experience, driven by that incredibly tasty and well-executed dish. You won't regret it!

Taco shells were fresh corn Shells with I think grilled melted cheese. The chicken and beef in the tacos were seasoned well with fresh cilantro and lime wedges squeeze on it. Dipping the tacos in the birrea gravy was heaven! The flan was excellent, not overly sweet and delicious. And the fresh guacamole was also excellent with homemade chips, too. I'm so happy Westerleigh has a great Mexican restaurant nearby!
