Poor customer service. I asked for more sauce on the side for my to go order and the lady with the tattoos on her sleeve told me that it would be extra even though there's no sign letting their customers know that. The prices are insanely high for the small portions they give. My family and I have supported this restaurant for many many years but it's time to let them go because they are stingy with their food even with their loyal customers. Also, it's in fact illegal to charge money for using a visa debit card. It's the merchants responsibility to pay for the fee they charge to use the card, they should not be imposing the fee on their consumers. I even told the cashier ash she entered the $1 for debit, she doesn't require to add that, in fact , this is illegal in California. The prices are crazy high. The Caldo was bland. The tacos taste like plastic. I even tipped. I asked for limes and she brought 2 and then brought for every plate and asked if that was enough. I saw some of their bad reviews and didn't get that experience at all. We got the taquitos dorados lunch combo (the one advertised on their window). It came out fresh, the shells were crisp, just enough spiciness, and the cheese was freshly grated/sifted over the beans and taquitos. The guacamole was great and the service was on par. I have an issue with some Mexican restaurant refried beans. They taste canned, but Tacos La Lagunilla's beans tasted fresh and they didn't use orange colored cheese. Stopped by here on my way to the goodwill next door. Was a little iffy because there was no one inside. It was probably between 3:30-4pm on a Friday. People started to roll in as I received my food. I almost got their quesadilla and then saw the on the board behind the cashier that they had birria tacos. Of course, I was going to get that instead! The broth was so rich and flavorful. The tacos came out so fresh, hot, & crispy. 4 hours later I'm still pretty full. I believe their corn tortillas are homemade. I love a good green salsa. Theirs had a nice level of acidity. This is really just one of those random spots you see and never go in because it doesn't look like much. If you're from the area, you probably are familiar and go in all the time because it's actually good. Hold up, let me take that back, this spot is hit or miss on certain days. Reason I say that is because the first time i cape in, me and the lady were just in awe on how good it was. The asada was flavorful and tender, the milanesa was super juicy, the tacos de tripa was really good. The second time we came in, for some reason, it just wasn't as good. It was bland and almost close to something microwaved after sitting in the fridge for a day. I don't know what it is. Maybe it depends on which cook is back there. We ordered some rice and beans, like we usually do (very aware of how much they are) and she rudely told us, "well we charge $3 for that!" I told her it was fine, we don't mind. Then we ordered some grilled onions, which have always been free, and she goes, "well we charge for that." I told her it was fine and that we didn't mind. She didn't even know how much to charge me so she chose a random amount. I ordered (5) carnita tacos and my boyfriend ordered (1) carnita, (1) cabeza and a few other tacos. She told him that they were out of cabeza and asked him what he wanted for his replacement, he chose lengua (tongue). When our food came out, I took a bite of one of my tacos and didn't feel right about it so my boyfriend took the other bite to try it out. I asked her politely, if my tacos were carnita and then all hell broke loose. She said rudely, "I told your husband we didn't have carnita and he chose lengua!" So I corrected her and told her that she said cabeza and I know that for sure because if she would have said carnita, we would have left, as that is the only meat I like to order. Plus, she never asked me what I wanted for my (5) replacements when we were ordering. I got lengua and was so disgusted that I had ate it. OMG! I was driving to The Block at Orange to see the new movie "Eclipse"... yes I took the streets all the way from Downey. I happened to passed by and saw a taco stand on the side of the road, right by a restaurant and it smelled AWESOME! So I tagged it on my Navi, so on the way back I knew exactly where to stop. With the economy being so bad... We try not to buy all that goofy food at the movies. So I knew for about $15-$20 I can feed the entire family here at the taco stand. You first need to go pay inside and get your ticket then you show it to the guy outside prepping tacos. Certain combos are prep inside and the tacos are outside. There is nothing fancy about this place, but it's very comfortable. Very brightly lit and a very friendly staff. I really enjoy tacos de Cabeza or also Lengua. Here the Tongue tacos are very flavorful. The Cabeza tacos are also tasty. The salsa bar is small but so fresh. The Al Pastor tacos have a slight sweetness because of the pineapple that they use on it. Also very good! They carry a good selection of Jarritos sodas. one of the drinks we ordered was made out of a fruit called Mamey... unique flavor, but also good. Their menu is large and they also have certain specials. Just ask! When you order tacos de Barbacoa...don't forget to ask for the Consome, it comes with the order. Sadly, finding establishments on this side of the border that has good tripas, tortillas and salsa is damn near impossible.... until Lagunilla! I have driven by this place for years and never paid attention to it. One day it popped up on my Yelp and a picture of the menu with the words 'tripas' caught my eye. I called immediately and placed an order. The staff are always nice, helpful and the restaurant is clean. I go for my favorite breakfast, Menudo Express, a Tripas Taco, plenty of Salsa Roja and Jamaica. The Tripas is perfectly cooked with a nice crunch! Their salsa is flavorful with a good kick... I lived across the street of this restaurant since 86' and it wasn't until couple years ago when I started trying out the food here. What amazed me even more was that my neighbor turned out to be the cook at this place, I saw him working the kitchen through the serving port behind the cashier. I thought he recognized me and Hooked me up with the 9 tacos I ordered because they were put together so well. It had the works on them covered with cilantro, onions, salsa and whole shallots thrown in there as well. Wow. Delicious. During covid, we decided to stop here for a bit to eat. There's a sign to say call to order, but a girl was inside by the booth and came over to take our order. We got a the Barbados plate (can't remember the exact name), and she asked us if we wanted the soup with it as well. Hell yes.
