Asada fries were amazing and the service was great, super friendly staff great experience

While this place has stood the test of time and pandemics, I kinda feel the quality of the food has gone down hill from what it used to be. I remember looking forward to every Friday when they had Goat Birria on tap and I would make every effort to show up and enjoy a bowl with fresh tortillas. This last time, I decided to have their menudo instead and that was a big mistake! I should know better because I am an extremely picky eater and I had a feeling before I even tried it that I was going to be disappointed, unfortunately I was right :/ The tortillas also did not taste the same, they were a lot thinner and the flavor was not there.. All in all it was not a good experience and I hope that I just went on an off day. I'm going to try their Birria again once I am on vacation and if it was just a fluke then I'll come back and update. read more

Got home and realized they had Completely ruined my order. I called and they said I can come in and they would replace my meal the next day. I come to give them a second chance. And they said I have to pay for the whole meal minus the upgrades they forgot to add on the first meal I got. Why would I double pay for a fucked up meal. Horrible service. And a dumbass attitude when I came back. Didn't realize they were so hard up after charging me 17$ for a burrito. read more

We stopped in to grab a couple breakfast burritos and we were not disappointed! The guy at the register was so cheerful, welcoming to everyone and just seemed to have a great helpful attitude! I would have given this place 5 stars but the salsa was really watery! The meat was cooked well. I had carne azada and carnitas and my buddy had the camarones mojo de ajo. It's cute inside, the customer service was good and the beer was ice cold just the way I like it. I would say give it a try. Next time I am in the area I will come back. read more

We usually go every Saturday or Sunday for breakfast I was very disappointed when I asked to fill up my coffee for the second time also not be able to get napkins, they have a sign that says you need to ask for it. I'm sorry but this is disgusting, the food doesn't even have FLAVOR I asked for flautas they gave me some fried tortillas with CHEESE and chicken...no flabit then they gave me sour cream I dipped the "flautas" in it and the sour cream had no flavor either, it was like mixed in water. Then the pozole also no flavor. The part that really just did it for me was the SODA!! NO GAS, just pure old ass syrup and the soda is probably so old, the soda almost tasted like water. I was so dissapointed I couldn't even drink it. And I know I wasn't the only one who felt this way because another man also complained about the soda. He had a Dr Pepper then asked for a sprite n he said he was sorry but the soda just doesn't have gas so asked for water at the end. Very bummed out bc this place was really good. read more

Meh Came here on a Taco Tuesday but they didn't offer any kind of celebratory specials. Some places offer discounts on their tacos on this day. Not here, no bueno. Well, we decided to stay and try it out since it wasn't crowded. They play music kinda loud but I was jamming with the "Chona" song and my chips and salsa. Good tasting salsa and good horchata. The asada burrito was huge, I could have easily shared with someone and it tasted decent. I was told that the tortillas are made in house, so cool points for that. My husband ordered some carnitas tacos and they were eh-ok. Nothing impressive or worthy of his return (taco snob) but what was really disappointing were the chicken taquitos, they had a nice presentation with the lettuce and tomatoes spilling from the top, oh gosh but one bite lost me for sure. It was bland but not due to lack of seasoning more because it tasted of a dead for centuries, dried up chicken meat. Whatever flavor it had, tasted like rancid oil. Yuck. I continued to work on my burrito but I kept thinking $60 was not worth it. read more

I wish I didn't even have to give a star at all . I'm really upset I drove 15 minutes there to get a carne Asada burrito and drove 15 minutes back home . Went to take a bite of the burrito and there was no meat open the burrito and all I had was a gang of beans and rice. I paid $16.89 for a bean and rice burrito. Went back up there get them the burrito no apologies instead of they're in the back looking at me so I told the lady I'll just take my money back. I asked for the manager she said there was no manager there so I asked for the number she gave me a nonworking number so then I went back and asked if there was another number and she went back in the back for a long time then came back because there was other customers coming in came back and said they said that there's nothing else that we could do since we already gave you back your money I said so there's no manager I could talk to and she said no there's no manager I felt like they catered more to Hispanics because I seen them make several burritos in front of me while I was waiting there to get a number all of their the burritos had a lot of Carne Asada on their burrito and I just so happen to get a bean and rice burrito when I paid almost $17 . It is difficult to find a restaurant who makes hand-made tortillas ("hechas a mano" is the Spanish term used) in their tacos. Well, their tortillas are not technically hand-made because they do use a machine to flatten them but other than that these tortillas are freshly made to order.That said, I find that lately their tacos have been lackluster in flavor as though the meat needs a little salt as does the salsa. Before the pandemic, I remember their tacos always being the right proportion of fresh, juicy, and well-seasoned. This would be a game-changer for their taco recipe as they already have the hand-made tortillas and the meat properly cooked. Its just missing the seasoning to make this restaurant stand out. Service was horrible I ordered sour cream and tomato's with my order and I was charged extra. It was never brought with my order I had to ask for what I had ordered then they barely even gave me anything and if I wanted more I had to go pay even more. This is my Thursday night spot. Their Thursday special is Steak Ranchero in red sauce. I love Thursday's lol . The meat is the tenderest and so flavored. The beans are the bomb . I've been going to all Tacos Mi Pueblo locations since each opens. There is no more authentic exceptional variety Mexican food around. The owners, the Naranjo brothers have many original staff that have been with them since the beginning. The food taste so good. Everything prepared fresh right in front of your eyes. My wonderful order taker Dynasty(her epic warm smile will light up your day) was nice enough to have my off menu Coach's Special burrito(Carnitas, rice, grilled onions, cheese, wet with red sauce) prepared. Was craving a coctel de camaron with pulpo. This was the only place near me that I could order that from. Once I got home with my order and I opened It noticed there was only camaron but barely any and no pulpo at all. I called and the ladies who answer didn't even believe me when I told them my order wasn't made right. Then realized what I had order. I had to go back to pick up the correct order. The pulpo was over cooked and disgusting and only small pieces. The chips I order tasted like rancid old oil. Never ordering from this place again! What a waste of 22 plus tip. Happy with the food but disappointed in the service! They got my to go order wrong on two burritos which is no big deal, it happens but it's not the first time. When bringing my order back to have corrected I asked for compensation for time and gas to come all the back here for their mistake. They would not under any circumstance comp any of it or even give anything thing extra for the inconvenience. Been coming here for many years! I usually go for the al pastor tacos or the Caldo de Res served every Monday. They have not only the best handmade tortillas in town but their Caldo de res is served with tons of meat and veggies- so delicious - just like mama used to make! Their salsa isn't the greatest but it's authentic and goes well with their food. This is a pretty new place near Rose and PCH, in a brand new shopping center, along with Jersey Mikes, and Charo Chicken. The food is authentic Mexican all the way, they even have rice pudding! I order the taco plate, with 4 tacos, usually 2 pastor and 2 asada, on hand made corn tortillas of course. The tacos can be ordered as a plate with rice and beans. I usually get a side of Guacamole which is excellent. The Tacos are excellent, with just the right amount of meat, to fit a dab of Guauc and not fall apart. The Salsa bar has some great tasting salsas as well. The space itself is clean and new, with the kitchen in front so you can watch them cook. I usually know a place is good if actual Mexicans eat there, here they do. In Oxnard there are allot of Taco joints, and this is one of the best. We tried their Carne Asada fries which were pretty good. It was around $8/$9 for an order but the order did come out enough to fill two people! It came with sour cream and guacamole which is standard. I pretty much judge all Carne Asada fries based on how crispy and tasty their fries are. I think these were okay... I love it here. Whole in the wall and clean. I almost always get the soft tacos here bc they make their tortillas fresh in house. You can see them making them! Lengua, buche, pastor and asada are my favorites. Their lengua is super tender. A fresh salsa bar is also available. They have fresh pico de gallo, salsa verde, and spicier salsas, radishes, jalapeños etc. They also feature different specials daily. I try to come on weekend days when they have the Birria (de res = beef. Or de chivo = goat.) So good. They have an outdoor seating area but beer is only allowed inside. I ordered 4 Birria tacos with an horchata and my sister/niece ordered carnitas tacos. Total for all 3 of us was $30. After we placed our order we sat down inside and waited for about 10 minutes then our number was called. I was a bit disappointed because I asked for the food as dine in but they basically kicked us out by handing us a bag with our food. Once we got home we ate our food. I was a bit disappointed with the taste. It didn't have much flavor and the tortillas seemed stiff and old. I've had their chiles rellenos before and was very happy. I guess Birria tacos from here are not for me. But the Chile relleno definitely is! Haha read more

Ordered a breakfast burrito ($7.25) which contained chorizo, eggs, rice, beans, onions, cilantro, and salsa. I asked for very little rice since my friend told me this place likes to "rice up" the whole burrito. I'm a cheese fan so I added it to my burrito ($1.25). I thought that was a bit much just for cheese which they didn't put that much anyways . With tax my burrito was a little over $9. Almost $10 for a chorizo burrito is steep considering Oxnard has a lot of places that sell the same burrito for $5-$6 that comes with cheese! As for flavor, the chorizo, eggs, and beans were on point. The rice was meh, average. ALL the salsas, including the one in my burrito, were watery in taste and appearance. It's a shame cuz what kind of Mexican restaurant messes up salsa?! I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that the batch wasn't made properly. The Burrito was a good size, not huge but not small either. It was stuffed with chorizo and eggs like it should be. I was worried when I ordered that they would make half the burrito beans/rice but to my surprise it was 80% chorizo/eggs, 20% beans/rice, and like not even a percentage worthy amount of cheese. I made this a stop on my Mexican food route up the 101. Being away from CA for 5 years, I miss any resemblance of quality Mexican food and selected this spot based on Yelp reviews. Based on my only visit I say they have some good points and bad. Great to see fresh tortillas, I ordered extra for the road coupled with some salsa from the bar. The better tacos I had were the cabeza and abodabo with the tripe not far behind. Like the others the carne asada leaved much to be desired. Loved the fresh horchata and tamorindo drinks and the outdoor seating but it is a strip mall so yeah I guess it leaves something to be desired.
