One star service and two star food miraculously able to put out four star tortillas. I'd like to think I'm a fairly easy going guy....I'm not the jerk who talks on my cell phone while ordering food, I make eye contact...I try to be pleasant....well after a long work day, I was on the hunt for some solid enchiladas and a cold beer... Mi Pueblo happens to be walking distance from home, so I figured "why not?" Sure I'd been here before and had unmemorable dishes and moved on...but I was neutral to the place I suppose. I walk up and ask the girl at the counter "how are your enchiladas?" "I'm not sure" she says with the facial expression of someone recently lobotomized. "Ok, well do you have green sauce with chicken?" "No..only red, see the menu?" hmmm...Ok, this chick is having a rough day...I'll let it slide. "Ok, give me the camarones a la diabla with a Sol cerveza for here, please" "Well, city code permits state that you cannot take a beer to go and must drink it in the restaurant" she says. I chuckle..."So you mean I can't take one for the road?" (smiling)...She proceeds to restate the city permit law. Jeez, give me a break!!! I sit down as far away from her as possible. Place was clean, with light traffic and the flat screen TV's turned off (why have them, then?) My food came promptly...served by non other than Ms. Personality..."don't touch your plate cuz it's really hot" Uhhh....ok? "you're kidding?" I ask...trying to take a jab by this point because she's plain rude. "No, Im not kidding...watch out" HAHAAH!! My God. Shrimp was far from fresh...the diabla sauce, while hot...lacked depth and the beans and rice could have come out of a Sun-Vista can...but that's not possible, because canned beans taste better than whatever that mush was. I will say...the tortillas, phenomenal. pillow soft, fresh from the comal and served as a perfect way to hide the flavor of the food. I wish there was a 1.5 star...this place is deserving. Actually I learned from experience to avoid the carne asada burritos, they are still dry!!! However Fish Tacos are really good, and they are also price just right!! You can sit here on a warm day, eat fish tacos and a corona with lime! Basically if you avoid the Carne asada you should love this place! Can't say that I will come back, because I'm either in this location, or the other location one sunday a month! However compared to the other location, I take a star off because they do not have the mural, and also the location is horrible!! so hard to make a left turn to turn into this shopping center! read more

My experience made me feel like this place is not bad but it's not a standout either... Average thus the 3 stars. I ordered the yuevos rancheros- that's my goto breakfast dish... This one lacked flavor. I felt like they tried to put more cheese than usual to cover up the bland taste. A normal positive is that it came with homemade tortillas- this is the first time I really didn't care for them. The texture was off/ they were very dry. This place has legit Mexican food, like the ones you find at a Mexican family party with legit aunties and grandmas making grub since the day before. I really like their horchata. Just the right mix of cinnamon, milk, and sugar. Their burritos are bomb too. Pinto beans are so soft, you know they've been cook for hours. A nice little place nestled on the corner of Gonzales Rd. and Oxnard Blvd. in the Topper's Pizza complex. First off, I love coming here for the bistek asada. It comes with refried beans, papas fritas, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions and a grilled and sliced jalapeno pepper. Four tortillas of your choice, corn or flour come with it. I complete that with a bottle of Modelo Especial and enjoy a wonderful meal. My son loves to eat their tacos which are $1.49 each and sold individually. So he can order exactly what he wants in either chicken or carne asada. They also have dailey specials, but I usually come in for the Sunday one which offers a bowl of menudo or pasole. read more

I eat here a lot, but that's just because I live right down the street. The food is pretty good, but not the best in town (Jessie's El Taco De Mexico!). Good atmosphere, its like a clean comfortable place to eat the taco shop like food they serve. People seem to love the Menudo here, I have seen folks coming in with large containers to have them fill with Menudo, and bring home. Their "Carne Asada" isn't the best I've had, actually their Steak is a little disappointing for a big die hard Carne fan like I am. I'd have to say the best part about this place is their Chips and Salsa and their Chile Rellenos. I really haven't had much of anything else here, but the Carne is what pretty much keeps me away. The Chile Rellenos are always made pretty well and they don't use the (IMHO) Poblanos that are too hot for me. Points though for their cool way of sending orders Hooter's Style though. I went here on two non-consecutive occassions and was blown away. The tortillas are really good, and their asada is tender and goes well with the salsa at their salsa bar. Horchata was tasty and the service was good. I knew I was in for a treat when I saw this place packed during lunch. Not your local hole in the wall Mexican spot but it will still give you the "feels" of authenticity. The place is intimate. They serve an array of food and beer anytime of the day. I always get the asada burrito with extra cilantro and it just depends on the day i come in if the burrito had no flavor and dry or it has lots of flavor and fine on the good days i am addicted to the burritos they are the best but sometimes the ladys at the cash register are extremely rude not the ladys that bring me the food after i order but the ones at the register so that and the moody burritos are the only reason i didnt rate a 5 read more

Won't go to this place again. Cashier charged me about $10 for carne asada taco plus beans and rice combo for lunch. I tried to explain to her this did not seem correct. She said that's what cash register was charging. Well, after she called manager, found out I was overcharged by $3. And, to top it off, the portions were ridiculously small. I like their daily specials and my favorite meal there is their wet burritos and they have the best chrome cocktails. Best tacos in Oxnard! I haven't had much else off their menu so as far as tacos are concerned this place is definitely worth a try. The tortillas are made fresh. I mean the flour is made by hand but pressed by a tortilla making machine. The tortilla is warm and chewy by the time it gets to you. The meats are delicious and tender except for the carne asada. Also the tripas are hit or miss in that sometimes the tripas are nice and chewy and other times they are a little too crispy for my taste. Just depends on who prepares them I guess. By far the worst torta I have ever tasted!!! It's super plain it only had a little bit of mayo in the center of the bread. The lettuce was still wet, 2 pieces of ham and a THICK slice of tomato.
